I'm sorry to say I think this wasn't abandoned by the dev since he was always ready to communicate and he went silent the moment the game "stopped", so I'm afraid it is a bit more serious than him just stopping development.

In fact some of his last messages a bunch of months ago commented about feeling sick, definitely not a good sign in present times....
Yeah, he was updating the status of what was to be the next update on Patreon and giving ideas as to how close the release would be and then just total radio silence ever since. For whatever reason, he suddenly and without warning quit. It makes you wonder if he's ok, but I guess we may never know.
