Except you did read it, and still have nothing to actually respond with.

I understand, you've lost an argument and you don't handle it well.

Explains why you have such a hard time understanding why DPC has no reason to hire a team.

The only reason to hire a team for any Patreon deliverable is if you can't do something yourself. Otherwise if you've got a good product, Patreon rewards those who drag their shit out, intentionally or otherwise.

No need to respond, I understand you've got nothing useful to add.

Maybe DPC felt the need to release a statement because things seems to have started to go south in his backyard after Halloween...

Of course it's nothing too disastrous and he had a li'l spike after the big plummet, but if it were stocks, it would mean a ~12% fall...
This happens to every creator on the 1st of the every month, has nothing to do with DPC nor the dev time.

I'll never understand the people who get worked up over this. He won't hire a team because he doesn't want to. He doesn't need to. He will not be personally benefited in any way whatsoever if he does.
  • DPC enjoys making the game - why would he hand it over to others to do things he likes?
  • The time it takes to develop the game directly converts to money - why would DPC do something he doesn't want to do purely to speed the game up and result in less revenue over time?
  • Hiring people costs money - why would DPC commit to an ongoing cost for something he doesn't want to do?
In other words, you okay if the project will never be finished?
The longer the project drags on, the less likely it is to be completed, that's just a fact.
I'd hate to follow one project for so many years and never get a conclusion because the author suddenly got health problems, burnt out, other IRL stuff.

I resent that. Quite narrowminded of you. And the poster you quoted as well. My post was a simple comment offering solution to DPC bending himself over backwards to justify his anal retentivness. :Kappa:

Besides there is nothing to be debated here. For him to actually hire a team would be going against his nature, it is his IP and his decision alone what he does with it. It could be argued that he could increase revenue with going pro or semi pro indie studio using his intellect and creativity to finish BADIK earlier and spawn more IPs but ultimately it doesnt matter because his mind seems set on that particular matter. But when he writes a lenghty reply to a patron why it takes more time for a production of a episode, it is only fair and valid of us to point out a perfectly logical solution that wouldnt compromise on the amount of content that he needs to make in order to fulfil his vision.

That's a straw man argument if ever there was one. Although, for the record, if the game could be delivered 100% complete by tomorrow, I'd love it, but it's not happening is it..

From what we know, there are roughly 7 more episodes after this one, give or take (unless Arigon's right, in which case we're almost there!)

DPC's already done a complete game, as well as he's just about to complete his 9th episode of this one.

There are no specific signs that he's slowing down, dying of cancer, or about to be hit by a bus.

But based on what the developer himself has said, if he were to rush things, or get others involved in the development, there's a greater chance that this game may never be completed, or won't be what he wanted in the first place.

There are plenty of other games around, why rush this one specifically?

I don't know what you, or anyone else here does for a living (except maybe AchedCroissant, supposedly he sells "merchandise"... :sneaky:), but I work as a software engineer. Once I graduated, I got a job and I've been writing software for my entire career (about 9 years). I often work long hours but so what? It's a living.

DPC's making a living off this game, seems to enjoy it, and gets paid a fucking lot more than I do. He's consistent with weekly updates, provides a transparency throughout the development cycle, and conducts this project rather professionally (aggression towards people annoying him on discord not withstanding...)

Sure, he may never complete this game due to unforeseen circumstances, but that could happen in spite of, or even because of, hiring a team to work with him.

And objectively (because the point of my initial argument was to be objective rather than simply being driven by our own desire to get the game sooner), unless DPC will personally benefit from having others involved in the development of this, there's no good reason why he should do it.

I resent that. Quite narrowminded of you. And the poster you quoted as well. My post was a simple comment offering solution to DPC bending himself over backwards to justify his anal retentivness. :Kappa:

Fair enough. A team could get the game out sooner. But as you say, we know it won't happen. The argument surfaces regularly, and it's a pointless one. Why should he spend money, lose money, and risk leaks and other internal problems etc., just to make patrons happier, when from a business model (because it's his job), it's a risk that quite likely may not improve his bottom line.

And if it makes you feel a little less targetted, I wasn't thinking of your cock specifically when I was referring to the crybabies and their flaccid members. :p

You're probably right... Every end of the month there's an em masse evasion and then it rises again (probably people who wants to buy the game). But it's interesting to notice that he reached his apex in November 21 (~18,000 patrons), and, in this monthly ups-and-downs, there's more people leaving than newcomers. The levels went back to those of April 21 (~2/3 of what has been in the apex). Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I believe the bulk of those who leaved got tired of waiting...
When Ep.9 is released, the same thing will happen as it happened in November 2021. Explosive growth of subscribers, just then Ep.8 was released.
And then again it will gradually fall to the average values that we see now. People are tricky and don't pay all the time, sign up for a month to download a game and then screw it up.
A good lifehack for those who don't want to pay $20 every month.

Poor Riona, she's definitely going to be fucked over by narcs at some point.

And if Lily turns out to be a narc, my mc may consider not fucking her anymore!
This drug thing is another situation that looms in the shadows of we're really getting spoon fed until it has a bigger focus at some point.

I'm really wondering what the end game for this is. I mean...how many "books" or "seasons" is this supposed to have? Season 1 is the introduction, season 2 went through with the aftermath and rebuilding of Hell Week, but...Season 3 is delving into more issues (and your potential relationship of choice) plus the introduction of your high school friend/ex. But if there is a point to all this, I think I've started to forget.

And I'm not bashing the game. The character development, plot, the romances, the sex, it's all amazing. But where is the end game? Is all of this supposed to be about a single year for the MC? Is it intending to continue through all of college? What will be the point of the diary of his deceased mother? How will that conclude? There are a lot of things that just seem to be thrown in and are interesting in themselves, but I can't see the end picture here.

Going back to the beginning of the story, the mc talks about family, how it's just him and his dad, but his dad said family are the people closest to you blah blah. Then he starts talking about all this shit.

So really, who knows if there's any stronger underlying story other than dude goes to college, dude joins DIK frat, dude fucks girls, dude meets the love of his live, dude lives happily ever after.

My guess is now that we've selected the main LI, the plot will thicken (we're roughly at the half way mark through the story). I expect there will be some bigger drama than all this random shit that's been going on. Something a little more sinister perhaps (involving Vinny, Quinn and their drugs).

If not, then it's just gonna be a lot of random college shit with random drama. It's still fun, but kinda directionless.

And regarding your questions, there are a fuck load more to be answered too:

4 seasons is the plan. I'm assuming the underlying plots like the restaurant and tuition and Fuckface's maternal family are the overriding plots that will progress through season 3 and then come to the forefront in season 4 with the resolving of those plots being the endgame of the game. The LIs are incidental to the main plot, but provide you with the ending you want with the LI you want.

All I can say is BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR o_O

I'm sure I'm not the only one hoping DPC will not do a DPC and traumatise innocent porn lovers with another demonic final plot twist. There are plenty of therapists that owe a significant portion of their lifestyles to Acting Lessons.

Just a little addition - MC talks about past while he is still in B&R.

After reading DPC's messeage, I have to say, I've never doubted that he's totally commited with his work, he's not deliberately stalling the developement in order to get more money from patrons, you can tell that he love Being a DIK as his own son, but that being said... It's really worth it to have that long, complicate and hard to render animations that have caused to miss Halloween as a realistic realease date? I'm aware that it's just a matter of taste, some people will love it, but for me, it's just not necessary or worth it. I've deeply enjoyed episode 3, 4 or 5, where the animation count was shorter.

You're right there was a massive spike in November 2021, but if you pay attention to the graph below you can see there was an cumulative increase in patrons over time and the curve was ascending; now, it's descending. Yeah... I believe there will be a massive upsurge in patrons when the new episode is released, but I don't think it will reach the last November apex.

It could be bigger it depends if the long ass wait time hurt hype for the game. DPC wants to be the George Lucas or Steve Jobs of AVN every time an episode comes out its the biggest thing out there. But will work what happens if it takes two years for one update? DPC is lucky he's a one man show apple fired Steve and George sold the biggest IP in the world to a mouse the only thing that can happen to Pink is people stop buying and playing his game. All that being said I just look forward to playing the update and then will skin him :Kappa:
