MC definitely pursued both, and you can judge that fact if you want. However, he was pretty up front with both girls about what he was doing, and neither of them asked to be exclusive. If one had, MC might have had the chance to change behavior. The thing with MC/Josy/Maya is all of them (MC included) were doing the same thing. He was messing with both of them and pursuing both romantically.
Josy was seeing him despite having a GF, but MC didn't do anything to stop her. He knew she was cheating, she did it with him. Maya was doing things with MC because she though they'd broke up, to her Josy was gone.
All of them could've been more honest. MC is not blameless in that situation. They did the smart thing by making up and not dragging it out, all of them are at fault.

tl;dr I' don't think MC's reaction was unreasonable. I don't think the three of them are equally at fault. I'd like to see a successful Poly relationship, but if possible, it will be a huge challenge. I fear it may be a set up for the tragic climax again. I hope not.
Sorry for the novel! I typed this on my phone, so I may edit it for clarity when I get back to my laptop! Love this game! Can't believe I have to wait months for the continuation, especially when I know it will eventually put me through the wringer! Guess we're all in it together!
