People are free and welcome to criticise the game, they just need to back it up. The most common problem is the number of people who come here and say “I’ve played dozens of better games” then when challenged to name one, can’t or won‘t.

Those who do name better games, when debated can’t or don’t really back up their opinions. They come with the attitude ‘game x is better, because it has better art, or better mechanics or a better plot or better characterisation’. When someone here challenges that they don’t like it. They don’t want a discussion. When people on this thread point out BADIK might not be as good on a individual aspect such, but with all aspects combined it’s better, people won’t accept it.

As for the people who don’t like criticism of their favourite characters, I agree this can seem quite juvenile. Over all I think this is done in good fun, but there are one or two who take things a bit personally. But remember this is the internet, the place people will try to convince you that if a character they like has sex with anyone but the MC they are being made a cuck because of self insertion.
There's no point listing other games when discussing comparison here, those posts get deleted for being off topic.

I've updated my signature to present the current speculated next release date, but no one knows the actual date, so every time someone complains there's too much conversation here and they can't find the release date, there are no release details, and those talking are the only people who can give you an estimate, but they might not tell that person who is just here to get the date and then leave, because they may think that person sucks as a human being. Ever heard of foreplay?

Here's the optimum way to ask a friendly community when the next release is:

"Hey friendly people, this game is so awesome, so glad I found it. You guys sure know how to talk up a storm. I've skimmed through and boy you touch on some great subjects! Anyway, maybe I'm blind, or maybe this whirlwind conversation is just too much for me, but I just can't find any details of the next episode release. Perchance one of you great chaps could assist me in my noble endeavour."

You know, shit like that. :p

Why is this game this good? I never played it
In short: it is basically the only game on here where characters feel like actual people with their own personalities. It's a bit tropey, but nothing is pure cliché. The writing is very high quality, both on a basic level (no dogshit spelling and grammar errors, characters sound like real humans and not like aliens or sentient robots), it's genuinely funny, and it looks good. Probably will be the best all-round full package adult game ever made when it's finished, and it kinda already is, since it's not really lacking in any department, and is beating most other games in every department.

Wise words! One of the best, accurate, simple non-nonsense short explanations I've ever read here.

Last week was he "final status update". Do you think there's a chance he may post today saying he started testing?

A lot of the people come for the porn, but stay for the story. Thats what makes it so good, DPC, the creator, has invested to make this game as good as he can, and he has. The story is just so good. And his other game, Acting Lessons, was also really good. I would give them both a chance, and it doesnt matter which order you play the games in.
Being new to VNs (earlier this year) , I was stunned with Acting Lessons, late to the party here (about June ) and when I noted the author did Acting Lessons, I knew it was going to be impressive story-telling.

You can't really "back up" an opinion. If someone's opinion is that BaD is the greatest game that ever was then no amount of contrary discussion is going to convince them otherwise. People enjoy different things. Some people worship the ground DPC walks on, others not so much. People like what they like. Someone liking or not liking BaD doesn't invalidate anyone else's personal opinion.
I disagree, I think you should be able to back up your opinions, if not why are they your opinions? I guess there is a difference between personal opinion and evidence Based opinion. While I think you’re right that fanboyish ‘greatest game ever’ types aren’t likely to change their minds based on someone else’s opinion, if you can back up what your saying rational people (which is the majority here) will listen.

I’ll give you an example, I think DPC has some of the best artwork out there, but he does have a bad habit of overmorphing his models face’s. Examples ranging from Josy, who can look odd from certain angles, to Jill who looks terrible with certain facial poses to Cathy who looks like an alien. I can show artwork that backs this up, however if on a personal level you find aliens hot, that’s not something you can be convinced to change your mind on.

Writing is similar, I think for the western porn visual novel genre DPC is up there with the best. I think it is undeniable that the complexity of the the choice based consequence system is beyond anything anyone else has produced. The quality of the prose is good, but again if someone wants to challenge that they can. However if they do they need to give examples of all the better games. People can’t do this in significant enough numbers to relegate DPC to average let alone bad. However when it comes to genre, that’s just a matter of personal preference, don’t like college comedy/ melodrama? Well then of course you’re going to hold BADIK in lower regard than a genre you do like.

As for mechanics, again there are two ways to look at this. How are they implemented and do you enjoy them. For example I think they are all well implemented. Are they all fun? No. For example I think the classes are a mixed bag, English is annoying since some of the words aren’t words, maths is fun if you like problem solving, and Women’s studies sucks because I have a terrible short term memory. I think tennis is fun and take what in other games would be a couple of images one after the other and makes it something unique. Then you have the house repair mini game. I love this, I love micro management strategy stuff, but if you hate that, that‘s an opinion unlikely change through debate.

My point really is if you want to critique something, you should be able to justify that criticism. In a lot of ways this should actually be easy for people since it’s easier to criticise than it is to praise.

Excellent summary. That's how it is. Non-stock characters, good not ludicrous plot - a story we can all believe.
Yet, about some plot twists: I would have changed that reaction of MC for arrived Josy - I wouldn't run away, I would try settle it right there with words. And again: it's too many sex scenes. IMHO, it should be like cherry on top, a reward for correct treatment of girls . Now lots of such scenes only devalues our emotions, we could feel.

I disagree a bit on the sex scenes. There a genre of Japanese visual novel where you play 20 hours of story and then get 1 or 2 sex scenes at the end, as you say as the cherry on top. In general I find these games dull. The other side of that is nukikage where it’s fucking one scene after another. These are equally annoying. IMO BADIK reaches a nice balance of plot and contextual sex scenes.

What happened to the scene where like 3 girls gave you a footjob under the table? Cant find it
You get this scene if you pay to fuck Sarah at the DIK party. I think you have to of done the Camilla and Riona glory hole scenes first then you can pay for it. It happens after the scene where you drink the shots off Sarah’s body, you have to call Quinn and pay in advance.

I know I would have liked to handle the Maya/Josy situation differently as well, but when this gets brought up it's important to remember we are not directly controlling the MC, but rather guiding him. He's still an emotional teenager, so his response does make sense considering how he's handled himself in other situations. An adult MC probably would have stayed and talked it out, or at least we'd be given the option. Of course I also realize DPC needed an excuse to kick the MC out of Maya's dorm.

You wouldn't believe it, I was just thinking about Japanese VN, where you choose to stay at recess at school on diffferent floors -- and the story would go completely different ways ))

If you’re interested in the 5 main girls (Sage, Jill, Josy, Maya and Bella), stick on the Chick path, it seems the optimum for all of them, although not sure what the future holds for Sage (just don’t get Kellermann started :p).
:cautious:

Perhaps the dark cloud will abate when ep. 8 drops, but I'm much less hopeful and excited at this point than I was on the eve of ep. 7 when I had that "next in line for a roller coaster ride" feeling. When I look at regressed, hand-holding dates with Jill, CHICK Sage, and pussy-licking Madame (along with some wanker who enjoys abusing us with photos of her) I turn sour. I've even been tortured by whispers of those who say there is no Halloween party in ep. 8, but rather it will come in ep. 9. So yes, I'm depressed about what happened with Sage in ep. 7 (after waiting all of ep. 6 for her to recover) and disappointed with the episode overall (my least favourite to date...but still better than most other AVN episodes).

I'm also not looking forward to the season end cliffhanger knowing I'll have another 7+ months for resolution. I do hope that DPC sorts out at least some of the long-standing subplots and mysteries that have been going on since season 1. If those are still left unresolved then that disappointment coupled with no Halloween party would be devastating to the psyche.
