This hasn't ever effected me, but I never know what to expect from a game when they say 'don't play if you're easily offended'. Sometimes I play through the entire game and literally can't tell what they could be referring to. Other times slurs are being dropped left-right-and-centre.
Some people would be offended by graphic displays of sex and nudity - although if any of them are stupid enough to download a porn game, they deserve what they get. :D

Where you get that message in a porn game, this is usually why: it's to forestall any Moral Majority lunatics who are going to download it with the deliberate intention of being offended and trying to get it banned.

love the style but you are aware that a cat fight with guns tend to go a bit different then regular cat fights right? i mean, i am sure that they can not hold a gun for shit but still stray bullets can have terrible impacts normally with plenty of side unintended casualties... like the MC`S Dick who is the biggest target in the room!

I'm not offended by the game (but I don't get offended easily) and I don't want to open a hazardous debate, but one can be offended by other subjects than sex or nudity. The game makes quite a lot of use of stereotypes, which people may see as attacks rather than comedic caricatures. This kind of message is nowadays required to forestall any ethics questionning.

And while the game is tagged quite widely "for adults" in online stores, its content more pornographic than erotic calls for even more caution.

but what are you referring to? the message at the beginning of the game?

that's all marketing, BADIK is a very comforting story, with a huge attention to not create unpleasant sentimental situations, in fact I would say that as far as love is concerned is a pretty safe trip

DPC has a strange idea about friendship, but this is a minor problem

I think that message was kind of a failsafe for DPC in case people find his story outrageous. Let's not forget, people actually threatened him with physical harm because of the ending of AL, so it's kind of a way of him saying "I told you guys."

That being said though, if he pulls the same shit again, it won't be shocking as it was in AL. It's going to be perceived as poor writing and label him as a one-trick pony.

Nora is the other MILF teacher and I wouldn't right off the CathyxJade threesome yet for "Others" Walkthroughs. Group sex was kinda teased in Jade's motel sex scene too. It would be strange that DPC made a big deal of knocking you off the Bella path (even though a choice was coming at the end of season 2 anyway) cathy BJ basically equals the same outcome if you don't choose Bella at the end of season 2 right now.
Huh did not know Nora was a teacher, but yeah she is HOT (maybe a bit hotter than Cathy!)

but at the same time has reassured many times that BADIK is a completely different story from AL. and then basically serves no purpose as self-assurance, if tomorrow (in august...) something shocking happened, even if not for everyone, let's say for many players, it is not that DPC would not be flooded with criticism and complaints just because he put that message at the beginning of the game.

for me it's 100% marketing, like the "based on a true story" before a horror movie. it makes it clear that it's a story that won't be afraid to make uncomfortable decisions, when then in Bella's flashback she doesn't even kiss her husband... really bold

I really really hope DPC doesn't buy into his own hype, thinking he's George R. R. Martin and just start pulling off random shit just for the sake of it and thinking it's good writing.

By the way, that Bella flashback is really weird. Like what if at the time of the flashback James was already dead and she was practically talking to herself and that's why her boss sent her home. Besides, that guy in the background's reaction once they are outside is strange, which really makes me believe that she imagines that James' is still alive and has some serious issues.

so was romeo and Juliet... until mercutio and tybalt had a duel and mercutio died and then romeo who swore to give up violence stepped in and avenged mercutio!

yes romeo and juliet was also a bawdy comedy about customs until it became a revenge story ending up becoming a tragedy (notice once again not a love story, love is only the threadbare that connects the different acts and even that "love" is mostly just lust and not a deep understanding respect and affection for each other!
surely it only takes a moment to turn a comedy (for me BADIK is not a comedy, it's a teen drama, a soap opera for young people, but that's another matter) into a drama.

but DPC has said that it does not intend to do so, so what is the point of the warning?

you meet two girls and you think you have a chance with them, you find out they are two lesbians and they were together, they get back together.... But even though they are some of the most insecure girls in the world they are willing to try a "polyamorous" story with you. much worse things have happened to me and I have not had this adventurous life

I see dead people... the flashback was weird because it's completely castrated in every edge. it's so cold and aseptic that it basically looks like Bella can't stand her husband...

if Bella had a happy ending anyway who cares if we have to give her a little lithium before we go to sleep.

while if in the end she doesn't have a happy ending it would be useless to add this weirdness to an already complicated story

At the very end of the last episode, when the MC is having a monologue it's revealed in one of the scenes that she's a science teacher (where it's flashing between loads of different characters)

Not only that, but in Swyper, if you pick the text where B&R is mentioned, she politely rejects your advances.

Yes, I've always assumed that interpretation is canon. It was pretty obvious that Bella was talking to thin air and the boss thinks that she has an employee who is slipping into madness. The boss doesn't actually see James during the confrontation and the man sitting outside the library looks on in a confused manner because he can see that Bella is talking to herself. All of that also coincides with future MC's internal monologue about Bella crying in the library.

When MC encounters Nora in ep. 8, is it at the B&R school workout gym or just a local gym? I can't recall the circumstances, but if it is the school gym then that adds another piece of evidence that Nora is a teacher at B&R. I'm not complaining because I have a thing for teachers, but DPC surely does like making all of his characters interconnected. It's like the six degres of Kevin Bacon only it's BaDIK.

I finally understand why conspiracy theories are a thing, people just make up stuff to fill in any blanks...

Bella's own thoughts say James is very much alive if you take it further with her in ep4:

Seems pretty clear that James did something improper, and then left. The mystery is what/why, because Bella is still traumatised by whatever it was.

The flashback isn't cold, it just shows James is much more carefree than Bella. He's happy to fool around at work, Bella is annoyed at him about it. She doesn't like his behaviour in that moment, rather than can't stand him at all. People we like still annoy us at times.

There was nothing in that flashback that suggests James wasn't present. The obvious interpretation is the librarian heard & saw James from the other side of the book stack, that's why she sent Bella home. The guy outside doesn't look confused, he's just looking in a vaguely nonplussed way at them because they're talking loudly given the exclamation marks.

Wow this game is awesome! This game was the 2nd lewd game I have ever played but it's definitely my favorite one.
I love how I got to experience the American college life, it really felt like I was a DIK. The story line is incredible with many emotions and a lot of laughs. This game is really something else... I cannot wait for the next episodes, I could play for hours. Now that I finished the storyline I kind of feel an empty space in me. Thank you, DrPinkCake!

I think DPC just wanted to say the game was going to touch on some issues that some people may react to.

The game does do that:
  • Mental illness (Bella)
  • Coerced prostitution (Mona and Cammy)
  • Bullying (from Chad and the jocks, mc’s flashback)
  • Homophobia (casual stuff from many characters but a strong sense from Patrick’s storyline)
  • Untimely death (mc’s mom, Jill’s sister)
  • Poverty (Neil & mc)
  • Injustice (mc getting detention for defending himself)
  • Anal sex
I mean the above stuff is all pretty tame, but could bring up painful memories or cause distress to some people.

Personally I think the opening warning is more detrimental than good. The game just needs a rating like any other media:

“Contains pornographic scenes, strong course language and mature themes”

That’d cover everything, no need to talk about being in a bad time in your life and all that shit. Plus, Jill voice acting… we didn’t need that either.

I'm checking in to let you know it's starting to turn around for the better with the covid.

For the last three days, I've been having intermittent 40C/104F fever, and today it's the first day without fever.

I'm drained of energy, but I feel that I'm getting better. I'll try working again in another day or two.

Before I got sick, I worked on art this week, mainly static renders. The render count for the interlude is close to 700 at the moment.

I have a handful of scenes left to pose renders for, and I have animation work left to do.

I also have coding and GUI design left. I hope I can make more progress this upcoming week.

For the patron milestone celebration, I'll give you the first two pages of the comic book and one art piece from it.

Enjoy!

Have a nice weekend

I'm glad DPC is feeling better. The fever must have been pretty intense if he slipped up and posted a number this week! :p

So we know the static render count is "close to" 700, and it sounds like most of the scenes are complete render wise. The animation count is unknown, but since his machines were working their way through the queue while DPC recovered, it's got to be at least 1. We have no idea how many animations might be remaining. Still, that's more than we had before.

If we assume DPC has completed 690 renders in the 63 days since Episode 8 launched, that would give him an overall rate of ~77 static renders per week. If we likewise assume he's taken 4 weeks off during that time (1 week off after launch, another for Christmas, 1 week to handle the GOG/Steam launches, and this last week with COVID), that implies his real average is closer to 138 renders per working week. That's low in comparison to his average during Episode 8, but it's still progress and there's definitely room to improve on it once DPC is feeling better. Here's the new chart.
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
As you can see, DPC is now on pace to match Episode 1's render count by the middle of February. It's not too far off from my imaginary chart last week, though obviously COVID has put it even further behind. Like last week, the animation chart is entirely speculative; I reduced the render rate down to 8 animations per week to better match the lower pace of statics, but it's entirely possible the low static rate was because DPC was cranking out animations. We just don't know.

Along that line, if I had to guess I'd say we're probably looking at the Interlude releasing in late February (once beta testing is done). It's definitely possible DPC could shave a couple weeks off that schedule by matching his Episode 8 numbers, but it's just as possible problems unique to the Interlude have caused the delays, and the COVID might linger. All we can say for sure is that we're still at least a few weeks away.

Beyond that, the comic pages are definitely not my thing. But DPC's been sick, I'll humor him. Just get well soon! ;)
