Quinn (and probably Rio given she's clearly the second in command in the prostitution/drugs business) are juniors I believe (hard to believe Quinn is Sage's handpicked successor if she's only been there for a year. Sarah and Mel are established in the college and the business so they are probably second years as they don't appear to be the same level as Rio in the business. Elena and Heather are unknown, but Heather has to be at least a junior as she appears in the flashback of the forming of the DIK frat.

2. A guarantor or co-signer can help you with this, but they have to prove they have the means to pay it off (income or collateral).
3. You can't be a co-signer or guarantor if you don't have any income or collateral.
4. Student loans typically don't need a guarantor or co-signer anyway since it's all about helping you to get to the point where you will have an income.

So ultimately if what Maya believes is true (that she is a co-signer on the loan), it would mean that she and her dad are equally responsible for paying her loan. If she doesn't pay it off, her dad still has to, or if he doesn't pay it off, she has to. The bank doesn't give a fuck, they either both pay the loan off or they both get bad credit ratings.

Now typically she should be the borrower (not the co-signer) and her dad would be the co-signer, not the other way around as the game has it. Because that would mean she passed a credit check and has either the income or collateral to pay the loan off, which we know she doesn't.

Also, Maya isn't a guarantor (meaning she's 100% responsible for the loan if her dad doesn't pay). She's a co-signer, meaning she's equally responsible as her dad. If she was the borrower and her dad was the co-signer (which is how it should be), or the other way around (where Maya is the co-signer - as she believes the case to be), it doesn't change the outcome. So all of that means that DPC doesn't know what he's on about, or Maya doesn't know what she's on about. Both are plausible. So I'll just go with the one that works: Maya's dad bullshitted her to scare her into doing what he wants and she doesn't know shit about loans and never thought of looking for information on the Internet. The girl is looking for a degree in social work...

EDIT: It seems that in some circles, a co-signer is the same as a guarantor (which means ultimately Maya would be responsible for the debt even though she couldn't have proven to have income or collateral in the first place). Other sources indicate the co-signer is almost like a co-borrower (except the co-signer doesn't get anything tangible out of it). So that just fucks shit up even more. Ultimately Maya couldn't be either, she hasn't got shit.

As far as the HOTs, my guess is: Quinn, Heather and (probably) Elena are juniors; Riona, Sarah and Mel are sophomores; and Arieth has been there for at least 4 years, but may not qualify as a senior.

Really makes you wonder what the admission standards are for that school if Arieth got in or ... that weird ponytail guy is her dad and he just made a very "generous donation" to the school around the time she applied.
Also that guess is closer to mine than the last guy but my gut feeling just wants to put Elena in her sophomore year. Otherwise, that's exactly what I'm thinking.

It's possible that DPC has simply just used one wrong word: "Cosigner". If he said "coborrower" or "joint loan" it would have all made sense, particularly if it was a cash loan.

In episode 6 Maya says the following:

Maya: "He fooled me into co-signing my student loan and afterward he gave me the ultimatum that I couldn't see Josy ever again."​

Maya: "If I did, he'd withhold the funds and I would be fucked financially for the rest of my life."​

Maya: "No money for college and forever in debt."​

Maya: "All of this because he can't stand that he has a gay daughter!"​

And in episode 7 she slightly elaborates:

Maya: "He prepared a student loan application where I was a cosigner."​

Maya: "I don't know how those things work, and I trusted him."​

Maya: "You should be able to trust your parents..."​

Maya: "But as it turned out, he's in control of the money."​

Maya: "That doesn't leave me with a lot of options."​

Season 3 won't be released on Steam until episode 12 is complete. We're still waiting for episode 9 to be released. So it's gonna be 2+ years before you see another release on Steam.

But even if he was the cosigner, he has no legal right to the funds, he's just backup to make sure the loan is paid off.

Taking out a joint cash loan is the only way the dad could hold on to the funds. And as long as the loan is being paid off (for however long the loan period was set), there's nothing particularly illegal about it. But if he's a cosigner, then he is basically stealing Maya's money. If she's the cosigner, absolutely nothing makes sense.

So the two working solutions are:

• It's a joint cash loan (and DPC used the wrong term)
• The dad is bluffing (just like Tybalt did)

It would work in the UK, but every place is different. Where I live, a guarantor just have subsidiary responsibility, i.e., if the main debtor doesn't pay, the bank or whoever made the loan can get its payment from the guarantor (and that's why no one likes to be a guarantor and usually only accept this burden for family members and/or people one really trusts).

The game though seems to take place in the US, and I know nothing about how it works there (which is not a sin, since I'm not American and I'm not writing a game about the matter; if I were, I would have researched it, though I don't think it's that bad to take some liberties for dramatic effect).

I think the most probable scenario is: DPC doesn't know what means to be a cosigner in the US and took the term literally, i.e., "someone who sign together" and treated it analogously as a "co-owner"; thus, he though it as a deal where both parts have to sign to liberate the funds, making it possible for Patrick to retain it... (And both parts sign the deal, thus "cosigners")

I honestly don't think it spoils the game, and maybe DPC thought it was just a detail no one would care about -- TV shows/movies make even worst mistakes... (think about the kilts in Braveheart, for instance...)

The difference is we don't have to wait 6 months between scenes in Braveheart to pick everything to pieces.

1. Why Bella's house is juts a façade, like a a studio prop? Is her house not real? Did MCs hallucinations were more than we thought they were? It's clear that her house is just a front with no depth:



2. And as one can see in the picture above compared to the picture below, she stole Sage's skirt and boots. Do they shop in the same store or Bella's still the Burke's mistress who had to flee from his house as Jade was about to arrive and then stole Sage's clothes on the way?



There are many mysteries in this novel... Thankfully we have those long hiatuses so we can try solve them all...

and in fact in this way DPC avoided Maya being criticized...I would say a really successful choice. still improvable though by making Maya a fool who doesn't read what she signed even after she signed it and that risks ruining her life.

the student loan then is relatively easy to get but it's not like it's for everyone, there are income and merit requirements anyway, so all it took was Maya being relatively rich and not particularly smart in school to cut her off from the official student loan

I think nowadays everybody knows each other surnames from Facebook and other alike social networks. Of course there are those who use aliases or noms de plume there, but most regular people use their name and surname. One could say that there's no such a thing in the game, but does it doesn't show up because it's meaningless to the plot or it doesn't exist?

And yeah... It would be very weird not to know the name of his professors... It's weird enough to call them by their first names... Since the game takes place in an obviously American scenario (otherwise why the MC would need a fake ID to go to a bar when he's already over 18), it's uncommon there not to call professors using Mr. or Mrs. Surname. Anyway, I think it's obvious that Mrs. Jade is Mrs. Burke since she's married to Mr. Burke; thus, we have Miss Sage Burke and Mr. Tybalt Burke.

B.t.w., nice tip this one of putting name surname (profession) in phone contacts. It's a good idea to do it even for mistresses. It will only get suspicious when waifu complains about 20 calls and 100 messages to the "florist" -- "Hey! Why you're messaging the florist so much, always asking for 'more of her rosebud'!?"

Jade teaches the Feminism class, she probably uses her pre-marriage last name. Jade McGillicutty or something, to make it seem even less likely she's married to Burke with a couple kids.

Jacob did try and tell MC that Sage is who she is, but got cut off mid-convo by something. So it's likely MC is the only one of the DIKs that didn't know who Sage's parents are.
