Regardless of the romantic situation, it's that the friendship is practically ruined altogether too. Looking at it from Jill's perspective, sure I can see the love interest fading. It's that no further development comes at all from Jill; I'm only halfway through chapter 8 so maybe it changes. But to basically completely end what, at least in my playthrough, has been a perfectly healthy friendship, over an unannounced picnic trip doesn't sit right with me.
