Maya skin is actually the texture from DAZ model - Yolanda for Genesis 3 Female
.
It have sharp height, and this skin texture is truly terrible; in good lighting, all the flaws are visible.
Perhaps, in addition to lighting, DPC also upscaled the textures, but this made it even worse.
Overall it's not his fault, DAZ has plenty of cursed models. :HideThePain:
And you won’t see how terrible they are until you install and play with them, because on the product page everything is beautiful and presentable.
Another thing, it is possible to fix the texture, and he didn't.

He's already said he creates custom skin textures in photoshop. Maya's skin is just a custom texture, because no skin texture in DAZ has such a sharp height map. It feels like he overdid the height map and that's why it's so sharp.
Nope, nope and not at all. He doesn't create textures for characters models. For assets - yes. Maya skin texture is default for one of the models. Yes, he could make her look "smoother" by reducing the bump map values and other stuff.

He probably created custom textures for all characters, or at least most of them, which is why their skin is shiny. He overdid it again, this time with the roughness map, which makes Sage's skin shine like she's been slathered in cream.
Nope and nope. Sage was "shiny" only at Halloween party. It's obvious that is was a moisturizer or something like that. She did it on purpose. Other characters go "shiny" when they are sweaty - gym, sex, fever, etc.

Any change at the current point will ruin the previous 10 episodes. Skin is not the thing that human may change. So it will look ridiculous and not plausible. He didn't have to change the texture itself, it was enough to reduce the values for bump and displacement maps etc.

And again. If you take a look at the people around you and if you start taking pictures or photos of their skin from a short distance, you will realize that Maya's skin is better than most people around have. The problem is the contrast. The rest of the characters got the "perfect" skin. If everyone had such detail and minor flaws as Maya have, it would be perceived differently. But what's done is done. I don't think anything will change until the very end of the game. Perhaps in the remaster (if it sees the light), he will change something.

Magazines with photoshopped pictures, as well as, for example, Instagram with its filters, have taught us and made us used to see things differently.

Regarding her hands (especially), this is well reflected and makes sense after what we learned in EP10. She is used to housework, to caring for her sick mother, it is not a problem for her to remove something unpleasant from the floor, while many shy away from it, as if it were nuclear waste. Her childhood was harsh, literally.

It doesn't work this way. Women have more delicate hands and skin. From an early age to ~ 18 years old, the body "grows". And any hard work, detergents, and so on will later manifest themselves in how the hands will look. It also depends on the skin itself. It's one thing when you have a scheduled cream in the morning and at night and you don't do anything around the house or do some little things, what everyone usually does. And it's another thing when instead of creams your hands constantly covered with detergents for the floor, plates, laundry, cleaning and so on all day your hands are constantly wet. Trust me, in a few years your hands will look the same, if not worse.

This will make you unhappy again because you will say "why is he licking every render, aren't we waiting enough? I'll be retired when the game is over."

Viewing angles, distant angles and properly selected light can really smooth out the situation with Maya’s skin. But not in every situation distant angles is possible.
A close angle to the light directed from the side only emphasizes the shortcomings.
As an example, yesterday's work with Maya
No serious skin problems.

nobody ordered him to make 6000 renders and then have to keep them all, just as nobody asked him to solve the problem of reflections in bottles.

here we are talking about the physical appearance of the LIs, which emerges even more overbearingly in the sex or "cuddling" scenes. it does not seem to me to be a minor problem.

special renders don't exist for me, they are often of a mediocre quality, and serve as time passers, could use them to experiment with something different, but still I'm not interested in them.

Character renders improving over time is something that has already happened in BaDIK, given the long development cycle. If Maya's skin started to look normal like everyone else's i seriously doubt this would cause any outcry about implausibility of it or that anything was "ruined".

None of the girls look that great a lot of the time, and I personally think they are getting progressively worse looking.

They used to look cartoony and that worked because they were more caricatures, and less weird looking humans.

Now that DPC has been striving for more detail and realism, they're starting to look like freaks for some of the time. :eek:

What exactly is improving? Lighting - yes. More advanced make ups and hairstyles - yes. Models shape (face, bodies) haven't changed a bit. Nor skin textures, nor anything else.

well different lighting makes a big difference

next thing is he probably spend less time on Posing/Expressions

nowadays an episode has more renders than a complete season but still only the contend of an episode(outstreched what can lead to pacing issues) what makes people focus more on details that outerwise would not be noticed in render but also in story

last is he use daz models the have sometimes problems with certain poses (bend over asses , breast that look like gravety exists, etc)

But Patreon is not a restaurant. You don't order or ask for anything from DPC. You sign up and finance the development of his game. If you don't like the decisions he makes, don't support him. I don't know what else can be done here. It's easier to accept the rest as is.

Collectibles is a typical way to distract the player in games and add alternative activities. In general, I like all these themes with free-roams, collectibles, phone and mini-games: they distract me from monotonous reading for several hours, as in many VNs. I just get tired of the monotony + I love collecting.
But only if these things are balanced well with the main gameplay. Not like in Ep.9, when you have a couple of dozen saves and a giant free-roam awaits you. Or some mini-games from Ep.10. Fuck the math.:cautious:

It doesn't really matter what specifically was altered. The important part is the overall appearance of characters is quite different and no one gave a flying fuck that it's somehow implausible or the things were ruined. For real, do you genuinely think that if Maya's skin was changed for the better (or if Jill's smile was made more natural, or some other shortcoming was fixed) people would actually complain, or is this arguing for the sake of argument?

but it also applies the other way around. making 6000 renders is a merit if they are "good," if on the other hand the cost of having 6000 and then having to keep everything is no longer a merit. it is mass production with extremely fluctuating quality.

I don't understand what Patreon has to do with anything ... that is a general support for the work, it is not a plebiscite for every single choice DPC has made


Now this is interesting. Do you have screenshots of these moments? I wanted to look at the problem myself and figure out what it was. And is it even possible to fix this. DAZ has its "moments".
the supreme example : the picnic photo of Jill in chapter six, which marks a very important moment, the first time MC begins to get into trouble about dating other girls, in an organic and believable way, a photo that later comes up at other times. the most important render of Jill's entire story is done poorly.

when below MC decides not to go with Tommy just by looking at that picture the only possible reaction is hilarity....
