I don't, who else but the dev would know the story. It wouldn't be the same story anymore if someone else made it.
It'd be better if someone just wrote a similar story, not a complete copy, but similar.
But this particular story/game is dead, it's been soon 3 years since the dev just up and disappeared (though has been seen lurking in the forums since then), we ain't gonna see this revived, something we're just gonna have to accept

This has been dead for nearly 3 years. The game isn't getting continued.

Simple, but not so simple. If someone else picks up the game and starts working on it, I can guarantee it won't feel the same. There have been other games picked up by a new developer after previous ones had abandoned them. In every single case I've seen it feels like a different game. So if it's going to feel like a different game anyway, why not just start a new game and use the same idea as this one?

As much as I would love to see this game finished - why should someone work on this game instead of developing his own one? Only to satisfy some people who won't pay for it anyway?

So are you asking if there's any word from the developer or if we know what happened? If so, you can search this thread to find out. As far as I can remember (although it's been a long time now), nobody knows for sure. The developer just stopped working on the game. But I might not be remembering correctly.
