The larger the game, the more likely it is to receive negative reviews. We have some one-star reviews on here that I don't think are particularly fair. Sometimes the product just isn't what the player is looking for and they take out their dissatisfaction by trying to hurt the dev's perception.

For pure production values, it's hard to beat City of Broken Dreamers. That intro video alone is the stuff of legends. DPC manages to turn a VN into an actual game with a tons of minigames, quicktime fistfights, and memory puzzles. Those can be disabled if I recall, if you don't like minigames getting in the way of your porn.

One of the times I talked to DPC, I complained that a lot of his sexual encounters felt gratuitous and unlikely, and that the ones that resonated with me were the ones that had some buildup. He told me that he was catering to both types of people who play his game: The quick fap crowd, and the more invested player. I remember thinking it sounded kind of sell-out at the time, but it's very clear to me now that story-rich AVNs are a niche, and the godmode smashfests are what draws a huge fanbase. He understands the market better than anyone, as over 10K patrons would attest.

To get back to your last alinea, even if I am not one of his biggest fans myself. He succeeds in giving both groups of players what they want without irritating the other group or destroying characters for the other group by doing so. That shows great planning and control of his work as well and what he wants to do with each character.

Summers Gone is real and no sex scenes in the beginn is not bad, i read a VN for the story and not for sex scenes. VNs with sex for every price is not my thing. Story Drama Romantic are more importend

I’ll be honest, this is another one on my radar, but the lack of memorable lewd scenes is what initially held me back. I don’t need a fap-fest, as I like smart VNs with a little heart and good story with memorable characters, but a little sexy time every now and then can work wonders mixed in at strategic points in the story being told. I’d say Chasing Sunsets does an excellent job of accomplishing this.

As for the argument or balance of instant gratification vs. buildup/slow burn, I’ve come to realize a good way to cater to both audiences is the introduction of side girls(or non-main love interests). Sure at their core, they can be somewhat of a mindless distraction, or properly integrated, they can also serve to advance the story as well. But, I digress, what I was referring to with side girls is the option to have hopefully guilt free (free from cheating consequences I mean) sex with as much of a diverse selection of girls as possible. That way the player gets to still blow off a little steam while not completely getting the desired main LI too soon. I’m not in favor of forcing the player to literally wait till near the end of the game before he actually gets to have hopefully what is just one of potentially several different sexual interludes with a main LI before game is a wrap. I tend to like games where there is a goal other than just to get the girl, cuz once you do, it’s all downhill from there, and I personally don’t want to wait for the majority of the development cycle to end before we get our earned love scenes with our main LI’s of choice.

Still, if you check the DPC/BaDIK-thread there are lots of brimstone and fire in there too. As in here, most agree that it is a great game - but there are so many different opinions on the details. I guess, from a dev's opinion, no reaction would be the worst reaction of all.
It will be interesting to see the post-count on this thread when the next chapter is released (hopefully closer to May than September)

I think it's fair to say that we'd never even think of comparing ourselves to two giants in the industry. We know the VN market is pretty saturated right now. COVID put a lot of hobbyists in touch with their creative side.

That said, some devs find the secret sauce to strike just the right chord in the community. WVM comes to mind! That said, we see a lot of games that are criminally undersubscribed for the love and quality the devs put into them.

Couldn't really get into Being a DIK due to some of the scenes. Just wasn't for me. However, just from what I have played you can see the story developing well, the renders are great and DPC knows what he's doing. So I agree, having an already established well liked VN makes it easier to bring in the audience. Where as this one is a first time game and I am definitely intrigued enough to say that I have probably commented on this thread more than others.
My first foray into VNs was WVM so I would say the bar was set high for me lol. Then from there it was MNF, which thanks to Lucy became my favourite VN of all the ones I play/tried. You can tell from those that they are very different.
I am always looking for VNs that have heart, story, emotion and well thought out lewd scenes as opposed lewd for lewd's sake. Something I think this VN captures well... and after watching the replay of the live stream, I am a little more at ease with things going forward.
So, end of my diatribe for now, I will say I am thoroughly enjoying this VN and will avoid comparisons... just my thoughts

WMV sucks, only the graphics are good story sucks your stroy is 100 times better than the one at WMV and why not compare with the big ones. With their first VN they started small and made something better with their experience.

For her first vn, Nyx does a great job with Intertwined. As for WVM, in terms of graphics it is good, but in terms of history it falls short. I never liked a harem type without consequence. I think WVM is overrated.
I enjoy Depraved Awakening a lot, as COBD, the story does not attract as much attention as other vns to continue playing, but in general it is good, it may be that when it is finished it will give another chance.

Wow I really love the writing in this game. I'm digging all the characters. The sex scenes are pretty good, but the animations could use some work. They don't seem very natural. The motion is off.

Very excited to see more. I am loving Mallory. I was all for Jaye until she showed up. Now it's gonna be a tricky decision. I guess that's what multiple playthroughs are for!

I doubt Jaye is stupid enough to make that kind of joke after the death of their parents but looking at her attitude toward the MC it wouldn't seem far-fetched if she did that just to make him angry .
