Also Rathieu is making all the environment by hand so that also add time to dev time, but it makes the game feel more whole and less disjointed parts glued together. It also allows him more freedom in what he makes. so yea, don't expect hours upon hours of content when that drops either. But you can expect to not see the same things as in other products.

most well polished games with a narrative usually take around 4-5 months minimum, sadly you might have to get used to it
I'll be honest, I'm also not happy about how long it takes with Children of Morn. I find it quite difficult to develop for long stretches of time without getting any real feedback for what I'm working on, that's why I'm already planning to adjust my release schedule for the future.

But I'll talk more about that in a future Monday Update on my Patreon. For now I'll just say that I'm planning to shorten the waiting times a little bit and maybe switch to more frequent but smaller updates. I'll see.

I got a question, one that I hope isn't really considered a spoiler (though some people will probably think of it as so regardless): will the MC ever "look normal"? By which I mean, not a purple cadaver? There were a couple of questions regarding the MCs appearance in the beginning, so I hope that's the case, but would like a clear answer if possible.

The setting as it is just gives me necrophilia vibes, and the MC's appearance certainly doesn't help.

Really appreciate the honesty when it comes to how you feel about the release schedule. Your work is truly well respected around here.

But I'd like to add as to why there might be a lack of real feedback for the current version. That might be due to a lot of us, including myself, waiting for a more content heavy version of the game (e.g v0.5+). I personally tend to prefer more meat to the story and gameplay before I'm comfortable enough to give constructive criticism and/or suggestions. I think plenty of us here share the same sentiment. I understand early development is crucial, but that combined with a longer update release schedule may make it harder to get proper feedback unless you have a dedicated group of testers for each new version.

I think a shorter cycle would help fix this and introduce some more players, but I also don't want it to affect the current quality and your work/life balance. We really want to see this be another successful project that would be highly recommended for its quality production.

Monday Update #93 | Failure and the Release

I had planned to use the last two weeks entirely for the finishing touches, instead I had a huge hardware failure and turned into a stresed out IT guy. But nonetheless I'm happy to report that I still got things done and it won't push back the release too much.

Everything new:

  • I'll keep it short this time, I did a stupid amount of little miscellaneous things. Fixing a bug here, changing the audio levels on a sound effect there. Rerendering a noisy image, changing a few lines for smoother dialog, tweaking the text box here, including a few new accessibility options and on and on and on.
  • What is noteworthy, Is that I rerendered almost every render of version 0.1 and also did rewrites of 0.1 the story itself didn't change, it is already set in stone after all, but I smoothed things out and improved the flow and narrative a little bit. With the additional content of 0.2 it was easier for me to assess the overall pacing and visuals, while I learned some important new skills in rendering with the new engine I'm using and decided to make the adjustments now, before new content is introduced.
And that brings me to the release of Version 0.2. I planned to announce that I'd be able to get the new update out at the end of the week, but after some strange issue with Windows not recognizing my GPU's, I couldn't render anything for several days. I did a lot of troubleshooting and fixing and had to reinstall Windows, which isn't a huge problem, but getting all my tools and addons and drivers installed again easily took a full day. My PC is still not fully repaired and I can only use one of my 2 GPUs, but that is enough to get the update out.

So, the release for Version 0.2 will be next week. I can't tell exactly on which day, as it depends on how quickly I can get everything done, but I'm pretty sure that I'll be able to get it out. So watch out for the Patch-notes, some time next week.

And that is all from me, until next time : D

This "stupid amount of little miscellaneous things" is the kind of lifeblood that separates the good/ok games from the truly great and memorable ones. The devil is in the details. And as you know: A delayed game will eventually be good, a rushed game will be forever bad (or at least for a whole while when people get bad first impressions :p). So chill, as will we ;)

Patch Notes | Children of Morn [v0.2]
Today Children of Morn v0.2 will be released. I'm currently uploading the last files and will share the links as soon as I can. But until then, let us take a look at everything that is new in Children of Morn.

New Content:
  • The story continues: About 30-45 minutes of additional gameplay.
  • A new character joins the game: Meet the newest character, Moran.
  • Two new erotic scenes: A repeatable scene with Enna and a scene with the new girl are now in the game.
  • The first minigame: Run the magic shop and sell all kinds of items in the newest and first minigame.
  • The first date: A date-event with Enna has been added, the first of many.
  • The house: Ennas home is now in the game as the first explorable area.
  • Accessibility: I added options to customize the text, hopefully making it easier to enjoy the game on both the PC and on Smartphones.
  • New Music: Additional music tracks can now be heard in Children of Morn.
  • New Sounds: A bunch of new soundeffects, including the moans and giggles of the second voice actress for Children of Morn are now in the game.
Changed Content:
  • Rerendered: I've spent a lot of time relighting and rerendering almost every render of the first update.
  • Rewritten: While the plot itself didn't change and probably won't change, I rewrote the first part to be smoother and more interesting. The player character now plays a more active role in the narrative.
  • UI Changes: I adjusted the UI to be a bit easier to use and prettier. Like changes to the journal or the save/load screen.
  • New Textbox: I changed the way the textbox is displayed for a more unique and cinematic look.
  • A Disclaimer: A new content warning message has been added to the games splashscreen.
Notes:
A lot of work went into version 0.2, a lot more than I had anticipated and planned. Together with the repeated hardware failures I experienced in the last month, working on this update was not the most pleasant experience I ever had. Nonetheless, I'm very happy and satisfied with the end result.
I also have to give my thanks to StrayHero, the editor for Children of Morn. Without his help things would be much worse, his feedback really helped me improve this version.

So, have fun with Children of Morn v0.2 and let me know in the feedback post what you thought about it. As always this is just one update of many to come and I'll make sure to improve and polish the game as much as I can.
