Personally i dont like the mod translation thats why im buying and sharing dlc for internation version according to my mega account i aready uploaded 24 dlcs at 13$ 20$ a dlc that a lot of money that just show how much i dont like the machine translation well thats just me. From what you said the mod translation sometime it's good, understandable and weird let say there are 14 personalities officially not translated for every 10 favor you get event thats a lot understandably good weird dialogues.
Same here. Machine translations are garbage and I hate how they overwrite the Japanese subtitles. I use this game as a supplement to my self studies of the language, and it completely defeats the purpose if it overwrites the Japanese subs.
So much hate here. But, well i understand why no one like machine translation, i also don't like it before. I understand because machine translation tend to have a faulty interpretation as a whole sentence.
In 5 image i provide above, between the official translation and machine translation, there are almost no quality difference at all. Beside grammar, the machine translation is same as official translation.
And sometime the machine has more better literal translation than official translation. I can give you the example. At the last image that i upload above, i definitely hear the female say "sake" and "suki".
"sake" is not a wine. the right translation is rice wine. though i prefer if the translator put "sake" as is, not "rice wine".
"suki" has literal translation of "like" not "favorite". even though the meaning almost same but the interpretation is different.
Yet the official translation also have something better than machine translation. Using the same example, the last image i upload. I definitely hear the female say "A, Arigatou gozaimasu".
In that case "Th.... Thank you very much" is better than "Oh, thank you very much". So the official translation is better.
My verdict is, there are no perfect translation in this game. And the real difference is only at grammar. The machine translation is not bad enough to be hated if you compare it to existing official translation right now. it's 2020 right now not 2014 anymore. Translate google already improve so much in this span of 6 year.
I don't defend the machine translation. It's still bad because without grammar sometime it's just not readable at all. And even if the official translation has wrong literal translation, at least it's still readable and understandable.
But it's the only choice for now, so if you are bored with 3 personality (4 in this month), i am just telling the people here, you have the choice to play the jp version with the combination of official and machine translation to play with around 20 personality.
