Sounds like a technical issue more than anything. An easy fix would be to switch to "bi-monthly" updates or even do away with the whole "regular updates" idea altogether.
Patreon is first and foremost a donation system anyway: you either show your support or you don't. Mistaking it as a service is why some people argue on technicalities.

I disagree that "Patreon is first and foremost a donation system". It functions more like a monthly magazine subscription service. Since most pledges recur monthly, patrons tend to expect "bang for the buck". Since a dev can only be truly "judged" by fans based on output, decreasing output and missing deadlines loses patronage.
If MrDots--or other devs--wanted a donation system, something like the "buy me a coffee" idea would be simple and good. They want MORE than this, which is why they adhere so strongly to a monthly tiered system.
Hmmm, yes and no? I've been patronizing multiple developers for over a year now, adding some and dropping others, and I've never felt like they owed me anything in return. I'm supporting their vision and efforts, not purchasing a product. I've enjoyed having a hand in contributing ideas to certain games that have been implemented, and I've developed conversational relationships with some devs. Other devs have their plan and don't seek input. I react, and pledge, accordingly.

I do understand why some people feel that they are subscribing to something, so I don't disagree with you. But I tend to side with @Blazblue when he says "Mistaking it as a service is why some people argue on technicalities."

I'm speculating here, but I imagine many of MrDots' patrons are happy to continue pledging every month even if development of Melody is delayed so that an update of DMD can be released, which I imagine is in line with the wishes of most of his patrons...?

This last part is the puzzle. To what degree have patrons been willing to abide with the present 2-project setup? A patron mentioned yesterday that he promised MrDots to pledge for Melody only on condition that DMD was continued. If that sentiment is widespread, it would brighten the outlook for DMD's future.
It's my assumption that this sentiment is very widespread, but I could be mistaken. He brought in hundreds of paying patrons because of one game that was derailed for unexpected reasons beyond his control. It stands to reason many of them would leave if he had no plans to continue it, even while he might gain new patrons who enjoy Melody. I was a patron very early on and, to be honest, stopped pledging simply because he was doing fine without me haha, and I wanted to move my funds to support new projects. But if I were still a patron, I'd be perfectly happy pledging to support both products, even if one took a backseat at times to the other.

I very much hope you're right. A DMD update progress report should be coming our way any day now. We'll just all hope for the best.
While I haven't always liked where DMD has gone in terms of content, I can't remember a time where MrDots has let his patrons down in terms of transparent progress reports and on-time updates. I kinda feel that's the most anyone can ask of a dev, given one can't please all the people all the time, especially when it comes to "porn games." I'm hoping for the best, too!

There is absolutely nothing in Patreon's forcing a creator to provide content on a timely basis. Creators can update on a regular basis to attract more pledges if they want, but by no means are they required to deliver on their promises. That's why it's a donation system.

Anyone pledging money on Patreon should be aware of this.

And that's why I agree with your comment about the arguments that crop up :)

To illustrate: I'm a patron of a dev that hasn't released an update in several months, but he updates his progress every couple of weeks. He doesn't have many patrons yet, but I like what he has planned and so I pledge a donation to encourage him to continue. I'm not buying anything, and who knows, maybe the end result will be disappointing. But he is open to suggestions while remaining true to his vision, and we exchange emails and he appreciates my input while I appreciate his skill. To me, that's what being a patron is all about.

Oc, you're technically correct.
I know.

Which brings us back to the actual point I've been making:
Patreon is first and foremost a donation system anyway: you either show your support or you don't.
People unsatisfied with pledging to Mr Dots while he takes time to work on DMD have no obligation to keep doing so. They can opt out at anytime and repledge whenever they feel like it.

I don't really see the problem here. We all know the guy is working on both games, why pretend otherwise?

Patreon mean you "can" pleage every month any artist you like and every month you will be charged for 1/5/5000 bucks if it s what you agree. After this Creator, can have delay, can say "i need a break", can say "my next creation is for the next year, thx for your support" so whatever. Consumer can stop anytime to pleage and at the end the creator can say i want to stop to work 3 month to invest my time to fuck a lot of chicks for get some new inspiration for my game and i need it, if the public agree to pleage, they continue and Patreaon don t have to know or ask what you do whit this time of you life. Patreon care is about money, if people like to continue to pleage it s roll fine for them ! There is nowhere specific rule or contract where a Creator need to make is goal everymonth. Just the most do it because is a good deal for a delay to share a product on this plateform.

This whole setup--Melody project on Patreon, with DMD developed elsewhere--is uncharted territory. I was wondering if some "creative" accounting was going on which could alter the prevalent view of DMD's present status.
This member, @wrx21 , is a long-time patron with whom I have had many discussions. When MrDots provided no studio update to patrons in January, he made February pledge-free. Since May will also not have an update (in this case for Melody) will June be also pledge-free? Or is this some workaround to benefit DMD?
Yeah, twisted...
there were no words about this issue, and tbh i never gave it any thoughts until now. I don't know how many people would agree with me,but i'd be ok if mrdots keeps charges for May and June but uses May charges for DMD development. Since DMD is currently nowhere and definitely doesn't rake in same amount of money as it used to (tbh i intended to use Buy me coffee method only after the release of the game) it wouldn't be a problem, for me atleast,to be charged next two months if that would mean DMD can continue to be properly developed

Honestly i dont like this game. Too easy, childish fantasy, Renpy engine, no music and FX, bad UI, updates are too slow etcera. I got better games here. Making trainer was not hard too.

Unofficial dev-teamer @Jeff Steel said in this thread yesterday to expect lots of sex in 0.18. The bj we've seen is surely the first of several, so lots of options there.
There has been plenty of speculation with the branching possibilities on the trip with D, dada and Elena. Even some lesbian action.
Apparently, we will be subjected to much teasing by the dev team before the update...
Thank you

i’m just happy we’re getting some traction on the next content update for DMD! can’t wait to see some preview pics of sexy D (Melody almost made me forget about Dmd for a bit)

i think next sex act has to be the 69 position. seems only natural based on what we’ve seen so far.

Do we know if this game is still being worked on, abeit slowly, or is it pretty much abandoned?
It is but at a snails pace. IMO they just play the clock and avoid abandonment for 2-3 more months and once more people get used to Melody they will do a shitty last update and end this.

Hey we've been told by Mr.Dots and his dev team that DMD is still a go, so lets take them at face value for the present. Creators get invested in their creations and often are as devoted to the product as the fans.
While DMD may get an abridged storyline its still better than no DMD.

I'm curious about how an Elena+D+F would go down. Which character will make the first move? I'm still of the opinion it'll be D hooking up with Elena first possibly to cover the relationship D and F are having then eventually including her F.
But maybe D will just become a pussy hound and start building her own harem. lol
