I'll agree with you on one thing, and is that. That's the biggest thing that rubs me the wrong way. The last preview he posted was on January 19th. He said on January 26th that he received a message "earlier this week" about his situation, and that he received a response "three days later". All of this happened in the span of 1 week. I guess the thing that I find hardest to believe is that MrDots is cutting the deadline so close every month. He's on time without fail every single time to the point where there's no way he doesn't complete updates at least 1.5 weeks before a release. I'm not on the staff, and have no insight on this, but to me it doesn't make sense. My other gripe is that he waited until the day before the update to relay this information to his patreons when he had this information for several days.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say he just wants to gauge the situation. I don't believe for a second that the update isn't completed, but he wants to see how big of a hit he's expected to take with this new project/migration of host.

That's just my opinion.

Why doesn't MrDots do a bullshit game for Patreon, something taking him 1 day of work/month and continuing working on DmD and releasing it on his site or by mail or whatevs. People won't complain about shit game being shit, because they'll know they are in fact paying for Dmd. Don't understand what's the issue here...

Maybe it can work even better this way. I suggest you don’t create a new game to be presented on Patreon, instead you:
1- Create sexy 3D renders there, so your current patreons and new ones can keep supporting your game (Dating My Daughter) through Patreon.
2- You keep developing DMD and you release it outside Patreon, in MEGA or something like it.
3- The images you create for DMD that can be displayed in Patreon, will be the ones you will be releasing there from time to time, and for Patreon records these images are what your patreons are supporting you to do.

We'll play this situation out like pirates.. on a day to day basis. Many of the posts here are what I called "speculative" posts. It's a guess as to what may come from this situation. So, speculative posts are what they are- guesses and nothing more.
I could speculate that Mr Dots encountered bugs and was fixing it while polishing the last few renders on monday when this all started to happen. He gets upset, has to deal with Patreon telling him they're gonna ban him and delete his page. So he has to take some time to respond in a way that helps him keep his page. Then he's told to wait a few days. In the meantime, he's scrambling to come up with alternatives to preserve his revenue source which is DMD, of course. He gets the okay to continue with a different game but NO DMD. In the meantime, he's got real life to live...
Of course, this is merely speculation.
Unless you actually read his responses.

There are two problems here. The first is that, as far as I know, Patreon have basically made it clear that it won't be possible for MrDots to run a Patreon project called "Dating My Daughter" so long as it implies incest (ie, something like the sitcom 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter would be OK, since it's about other people dating the daughter).

So the solution is to run dummy content entirely unrelated, which leads to the second problem: Not every patron is aware of F95zone and similar places. How does MrDots tell those people where to get the 'real' content, without being caught by Patreon? A considerable percentage won't know what's really going on and will be asking on his Patreon page. And if someone gives them the answer on his Patreon page, that could be him fucked again, page shut down, banned etc. And even if that doesn't happen, and nobody helps those people, they're going to stop pledging if all they're getting is this dummy content.

And all of that is assuming Patreon are willing to go along with this "Don't ask, don't tell" style approach. If there are people out there reporting this stuff to them, there's no guarantee they won't just swing the hammer anyway, dummy content or no dummy content. I believe the email to Faerin hinted that this setup was possible, but who knows what'll happen down the line. The only thing I feel reasonably certain of is that the best-case scenario, where things continue more or less as before, is not going to happen :frown:

I don't know the inside story either, but the past few releases felt like he was still making more than just minor final touches and debugging in the final week, from how he would describe what made it into that month's package and why. Combine that with changes to the game mechanics for saves and all the issues with trying to get Chapter 2 to smoothly work with Chapter 1 saves for most users and I figure he's had his hands full up until the final day or close to it. Maybe I've read too much into his words.

I don't understand Mr.Dots problem, Patreon is for donations, you don't need to do anything, just have a Patreon and ask for money.
- I'm Mr. Whatever the artist, give me money and I will make my art.
That is, you don't need to give anything in return, and Patreon never gave a damn about it, some devs have been more than 6 months without delivering anything and their Patreon are still alive and running.
Just keep DMD on your site or blog to keep people informed and use Patreon only to get "donations".

As far as I'm aware he's not shutting his patreon down. He will still be collecting donations form those 4000+ people for his "new project"

He probably will keep patreon there and use it to get his funds by selling the new game on Patreon, while keeping dmd on another site. Everybody will know that those funds aren't due to the followers of the new game, but since he'll match Patreon's request they won't be able to close his account. So, he'll keep using Patreon to get the money for dmd even if it's not hosted there anymore, probably, at least until he doesn't find a better solution.

I've said this previously but running a project like this on the expectation of monthly donations across years is a bad idea. Something is always going to come along and disrupt everything when you're relying on third parties.

The thing is the incest thing sells. Really I think what sells is the opportunity to do taboo things you could never and would never do in real life. Nobody is going to leave that money untapped so really it's all a matter of developers finding a way to satisfy Patreon while also delivering taboo.

You're all very angry at Patreon here but the real problem is the payment industry. You have no idea how much of a strangehold they have on what's "allowed" to exist. It's one of the reasons cryptocurrencies are so popular.

I'm going to take an optimistic approach here and hope that means DMD will both continue and return somewhat to its roots of the MC being an utterly deplorable piece of shit. I actually find it somewhat more offensive to try and pretend you're boning your daughter but you're a good guy because you're all like romantic and stuff about it. Embrace the dark side and so on.
