I suppose the new renders and such are nice but I for one am not particularly interested in replaying the last bit just for the chapter to end the same shitty way. Maybe I'll pick it up in the next chapter but that's a big IF at this point.

Exactly, with the waste of resouces being used on the doughnut hunting simulator I fear for what Chpt 4 will turn out to be..

Yes, you can avoid it and turn it on or off anytime you like from the in game options while playing. (upper right corner by clicking the corruption meter.)

It's a hot fix for Chapter 3, adding stuff that was missing and polishing up stuff that was in there earlier. So yes, continuation and "new story" in the next chapter.
