You have to play all the chapters before you can play chapter 8 (normally). However, if you find a saved file for chapter 7, you don't need to play chapters 1-7.

This chapter has been well worth the wait.
Palmer did a really great job, a lot more satisfying build up than a lot of other games. The renders and gameplay also get better with each installment.
