Shame about Kira's eyes. I feel like the new version has this "Generic AI" vibe to it. Old Kira had a lot of charm, and the new one doesn't capture it.

I think the new Kira looks weird because we're so used to what she looks like now and any change is gonna look a bit strange. But i feel the bigger "problem" is that new Kira looks more like a supermodel while old Kira looks "average" i guess, i think keeping that average look for Kira helps her character and makes her more relatable, at least to me. Like she's a normal person out of her depth (even though those brain implants or whatever imply she's like a secret agent/assassin or something similar idk), as for the AI Kira it just looks super uncanny to me. I wouldn't say new Kira is bad though i just feel it could be improved in a way that keeps Kira feeling like an average person. Anyways, whatever happens I still look forward to this game getting finished whenever that may be.

This is always going to be an issue. People generally don't like change unless it is better than what came before in almost every way. Also, the fact that people think the new version of Kira looks like AI is ironic/funny. Mulan has claimed that he has scaled back the usage of AI due to Steams ban on AI art and that the new Kira is entirely hand drawn.
Look, Kira cannot stay the way that she currently is in a world where all the other character art has been reworked. Not only does she not look as good as the reworked dorm girls, there are technical errors in the current iteration of Kira. The shading is wildly inconsistent on both her face and body. Even more importantly, Kira's face has been drawn in like 5 different angles than just the main bust, and in each angle, Kira looks like an entirely different person. Take a look at the front facing Kira in the original Chief Officer hypnosis event and compare it to the new hypnosis event in the Gulag. The aren't even similar enough to be sisters, they just share the same haircut.
If Mulan were to go the route of essentially just fixing errors on the current Kira, her main bust would look the same but shaded properly, just as many of you are asking. But every other instance of Kira (front facing, full profile, partially from behind) would have to change to match current Kira because they just don't look the same.
Mulan is going to have to find a balance between changing Kira, but keeping her samey enough to not upset people who do like the current iteration of her. That might not be the rework shown in the status update, but any rework is going to upset people. He just has to find the one that does the least of that.

No matter what he does there'd be still complaints, you can't please everyone, it's not physically possible. Despite that making Kira's appearance consistent has more benefits than shortcomings, in my opinion.

I'm not against updating the art. I'm against changing her face. Like I said before, he did it perfectly with all the other girls, so I'm not sure why he wants to change her face in particular. And no, Kira right now is hot as hell. Certainly not average

I gotta be honest, I can't see what argument you are making. You cannot look at any of the previous girls and say that they haven't "changed". The massive jump between Shwift, Liuda, and Nadya before and after goes beyond just an "upgrade". The change in artstyle necessitated massive changes. Katya was a lot closer to the newer art style so the changes aren't as stark, but her face is completely different from the old one man. Sure it might have the same "vibe" as old Katya, but she has an entirely new face structure. If your argument is that new Kira doesn't give the same vibes as old Kira, whereas all the other upgrades do, I'd agree. But they have absolutely changed.

Hard agree. The benefits of making Kira consistent outweigh any negatives that might arise from someone not liking the way she looks.
And if you look at new Kira from her front view and in 3/4 profile, they are almost identical. It is the most consistent Mulan has made yet.
Mostly it suck that mulan does minor changes (that transform into load of changes because customization) but barely makes any new content. Content with reusable assets or just extension of an older scene with new dialog is not what you expect after months of a work.

I'm saying that the girls still have all their features that they had before. They still look like themselves. The "new" Kira only shares a color sceme.

Her eyes are different, her jaw is less round, her lips are wider and her default expression is just way too different.
OG Kira looks at you with nonchalant annoyance, new Kira just looks like she's giving you sideeye and is analyzing you or angry at you or something. Old Kira looks like she would actually fuck someone. New Kira just looks like she's watching two gopniks fight over a cow in the distance and is confused by it.

Nah I disagree with almost every piece of analysis you made in regards to the other girls. If you look at Liuda, her eyebrows are entirely different shape, they just make the same facial expression as the old ones. Her jawline and lower face is structured entirely different and her eyes are shaped almost nothing like the old ones. What Mulan nailed is the same "vibe". The two depictions are similar (the hair and color scheme) and give off the same "energy" and expression.
With Nadya, Mulan did nail the eyes which was probably the most important part, but her eyebrows, lips, and face shape are completely different. The eyebrows are a different color and shape, her lips basically did a reverse (the top is now the larger, whereas bottom was larger in the old art), and her jawline became much sharper compared to the almost completely round jaw and chin of old Nadya. Once again, same vibe/energy/expression, completely different shape.
Shwift is a more direct "upgrade" because with this one, none of the facial features actually did change, except the eyes. But the vibe did change with Shwift. Her default expression doesn't really look so much like a psycho as old Shwift, largely because of the eyes. They are less deranged and more inquisitive. Her smiling expression is just as deranged though, so it works.
Because you left out Katya and said that I said she was pretty much the same (which I didn't say, I said her vibe was the same, her face is almost completely different) I'll include her.
Starting from the top, her hairline changed. It has been made significantly less rounded, her hairline is overall sharper and more square. Her eyebrows are a completely different shape and her brow is positioned differently. The eyebrows are longer, darker, and more curved, and her actual browline is not as raised/vertical as it used to be. Her eyes also have significant changes, they have shrunk in size and she has a more pronounced eyelid. Her nose is significantly less pronounced from bridge to tip and the tip has been overall shrunk. Her lips are similar in size, but the lipline is flatter and downturned at the corners in the new art, whereas old Katya has upturned corners and a protruding upper tubercle. Her overall face and jaw shape went from pointed like a heart or inverted triangle to more of an oval. They are not even close to being the same, top to bottom. All they share is a color scheme and similar vibe/energy/expression.
If you look at new and old Kira, I'd say you're exaggerating the changes. Do they look the same? No. Do they have the same vibe? No. But their features are similar. First off, all of her features have softened except for her jawline. Mostly a lighting change, but it does change how angular her face looks in some areas. Her lips are wider, but almost identical in shape to the old ones. Probably the closest in terms of all the previous girls. The peak of her eyebrows has been shifted outward, but they are the same size, color, and position as old Kira's. They even invoke the same resting bitch face as the old ones. Her nose is almost identical, very little changed here outside of lighting. What fundamentally changed are the jawline and eyes. The jawline went from rounded to pointed and you're right, her eyes are completely different. The change to her eyes is the most significant out of any of the girls so far and the expression that she has with the new eyes doesn't give anywhere close to the same energy as what old Kira did. She went from drug addict with a resting bitch face energy to model with a resting bitch face energy, which to me is a failure on both sides.
The vibe that I think Kira should give is that of a spy. She was a spy at the start of the game, she will be a spy during the game, but the player can corrupt her to be a bimbo/slut/cow that is also still a spy. That means that at any given point her demeanor should never stop looking like a spy, until she actually stops being a spy. Do I think new Kira is better looking than old Kira? Not from a purely subjective standpoint, I'd mark them about equal tbh. I don't care for one more than the other. The reason I think new Kira is better for the game than old Kira is because she is more consistent than old Kira. She looks like precisely the same person from every angle we have seen her from, which is worth way more than subjective opinion on how pretty she is.

Thank you for sharing your trauma, this is what this game is about. Now, when I was a kid we used to spray that nail removal thingy on our hand and pretend we were fire-mages. Needless to say, we got burned by the experience.
