Too many games available here rely on verbal diarrhoea combined with non-interactive (or barely interactive) graphics to arouse the player, without offering actual engaging gameplay, other then grind to reveal some, then keep on grinding to reveal more. And you end up downloading +1GB of high-school level smut with illustrations that are neither good games nor good porn. This one is bare-bones that delivers. And the mechanics (sex combat, psychosexual stats and skills) are quite intricate for what basically is just a text game.

In terms of themes, it relies on well-tried hentai tropes, so nothing particularly original to see. There was a game here until very recently that was similar to DoL thematically (although the engine was not HTML but RPG Maker), but has since been removed for containing stuff deemed too extreme. A genius move by the author was making the PC an orphan... and barely legal to boot.

I was referring to 'Kozue's Strange Journey', which while definitely not the same gameplay-wise as DoL, has a lot of similar themes: a young (perhaps too young) protagonist attending school, a town with various shady locations (cafe, massage parlour, brothel, etc), otherwordly realm, molestation and... rape.

Another very very similar game that comes to mind is 'Girl Life'. While it doesn't have such a complex sexual encounter 'simulator' that DoL has and instead of an English-inspired manga lore you're thrown into a quasi-realistic post-Soviet world with magical elements in it, it nevertheless is a story of a school-age protagonist (a girl to be precise) living in a morally ambiguous town (and city), who has to choose her own path of entering adulthood. It is also text-based (with 'real porn' illustrations), with actions taking time and affecting your stamina/mood/hunger/thirst/health/willpower, etc.

It's on steam and got ported to here, but then fell victim to rule 7 and was removed.

I'm not 100% sure, seeing as there's no public discussion of removals (that I know of) but I've heard the idea bandied around that it could be what's in the off-steam patch hosted by Kagura themselves that warrants the removal. As to why that means the steam version isn't OK'd, or why Kagura doesn't get in the shit for it... Yeah, I'm at a loss. I couldn't see anything that looked dangerously loli-ish in the CG (definitely not compared to the MC sprite here, anyway. Which I'm not complaining about, just saying). If there is a problem, I'd assume it's in the text.

You said it yourself: he's a very consistent developer so "a couple of days off" is no reason for concern at all given his track record. Shit happens in life so maybe they took some time to deal with irl stuff, are taking a rest or even polishing up the release. Call me when it's been a week or two, even a month off then I'll start worrying.

On a semi-related funny note, I think you would not fare well as a fan/follower of 75% of other games on this site if just a few days of delay is enough to make you concerned, because let me tell you in terms of waiting for updates from those popular games we're talking about a time-frame of months or even years lol

If you get fucked (literally and figuratively) sometimes they'll just randomly drag you off somewhere and gang-rape you until your stats are all messed up and you end up in the asylum for a couple weeks to recover. Or you get pulled off into the woods and enslaved, either by Eden or by a pack of wolves. And there's a limit to how safe you can play, because you have to make that money somehow. Even working at the cafe which is relatively low-risk, at some point that doesn't pay enough to sustain the rent and you have to start taking risks. Next thing you know you're knocking at some door and the person rushes out and starts raping your ass. As soon as you get raped once, it's a down-ward spiral into getting raped again and again until your stats are all messed up and you're back in the gutters.

Anyone got any good tips to avoid this evil cycle?

You have to think more like a Brit. By which I mean find the nearest indigenous culture site the ruins in the lake, loot it and sell your loot to the museum. You can make more in an afternoon than in a whole week of doing those long, exhausting and rapey jobs at the early houses. Go with the group after school until you get history up enough to know the shortcuts, also go to school with Robin in the morning to be safe on that way.

Choosing a big body makes things easier.
Pay attention to your allure, don't walk around at night or in alleyways where nobody can hear you scream. Dress modestly and clean the goo.
Get your school grades up quickly, the rest can wait. English and Science is very important in combat.
Don't antagonize attackers if you cannot win the fight. Good English skill gives you "Apologize". Careful with "brown" actions, they look mostly harmless but make attackers angry if used too often.
