I seem to remember a long time ago they were thinking about getting a new notification system which would take care of your problem. But I don't know if they are still doing that. Thinking, that is.

In my opinion, so far the game has heavily hinted MC is not an average Joe. He releases an update once every 2-3 months IIRC, but the game's worth waiting for (we talking about sizable updates with lots of content), and the dev deserves all the support he can get, so if you consider becoming a patron, you won't regret it. This game is a masterpiece.
