Hey guys, srsly.. is unreal better than unity?

I want to make a game, but I keep hearing unity is worse than unreal.. and I don't understand why ppl say that.. it's kind of like the blender vs 'any expensive program'(maya for example)

I do know that unreal has the blueprint thing now.. I guess that is kind of cool.. I do know programming sort of.. I started in C++ but then I used a bit of other ones including C#.. it's been a while since I did all that though, but C++ doesn't scare me or anything like that.. I just used Java and C# more in classes and stuff later.. and less C++, until I didn't use it much anymore..

pretty confusing honestly..

well I'm curious if D-E-V-O-L-U-T-I-O-N might even be able to tell me anything if not too busy.. :censored:

Yeah - Ill sign on the list to be a supporter. So far the game looks good, I like the design, fantastic chars - mc is rock hot... and i hope this get expanded.
Sure there are bugs, its not a AAA game, its a lewed game for us wankers... but its kinda kewl in my opinion, and Developer is on the right track.

It highly depends on the developer and how willing your are to delve into the SDK. Take 7 Days to Die, an Unity project. It is one of the most heavily optimized 3D games out there, but they also engineered a ton of stuff and inserted it into their own personal parts of the Unity game engine... so I suppose they aren't really using Unity like most developers would.

However, Unreal tends to be quite performant, if you don't do these things:
-> Try to target the highest level of technology, or a level that hasn't been invented yet.
-> Locking rendering into requiring temporal forms of anti-aliasing or requiring high quality shadow resolutions.
-> Going for large world spaces without chunk loading. Part of the reason 7DTD works so great is chunk loading.
-> Not allowing for a large amount of graphical customization.

Its not that Unreal can't target this stuff, but when it does, it consumes more resources than say CryEngine, IDTech or Frostbite does, as its designed more for the mid-range technology, not high-range. The equivalent of Lumen in these aforementioned engines runs better, but as they target the high-range technology, they do it best.

There's no real "better or worse" with these things, it's more about what you want to make.
I'd suggest running though basic, mid tier and advanced tutorials in both first and you should be able to make an informed decision afterwards :)

Well, there is better and worse given specifics of a project, but in general yeah, each engine is usually better for specific things

First, if you love the game, I'm not trying to start a fight.. below is just what I experienced:

I guess I have a different opinion on 7 days to die.. I played it long ago.. and it was so bad and bad looking that I cussed out the guy at work who raved so hard about how good it was and that I should definitely buy it and play.. of course that was, like I said 'long ago'.. I guess they could have really fixed it a lot now lol

I don't remember when I bought and played the game exactly.. but I guess the game has been out like 10 years or something now maybe?

How on Earth did you manage that? The weapons have no durability. Only way for them to be "damaged" is if you get raped and the attacker decides to steal some parts from it, if that's what you mean?
he just used wrong words.. weapon malfunction, i.e. weapon jammed lol

..unless he is ignorant of them stealing, which it read like he does know about that..

This is what happened if Cyberpunk 2077 isn't rushed
lmao yeah, at least this game has 3rd person in some form(I don't count it on motorcycle in cyperpunk)

on a side note, I feel like the only h-game close to this one is fallout 4(modded ofc with stripping, sex, rape, guns, pregnancy)
..and that is where i feel that this Dev got his ideas from.. mods in fallout games and skyrim.. and mods from illusion games(the vagina looks familiar to a mod I know of and used back then lol)
..and cyberpunk and escape from tarkow or w/e the game is that ppl keep mentioning(I didn't play it lol)

yes, that's right, the 12th was v4.26 UE, the 14th became v5.1 UE

I have already collected 2 maximum rifles without using cheats, unlocked all customization improvements, collected 3 sets of scrap/ranger/corporate clothing... and there's nothing else to do in the game. This is all at the maximum difficulty of the game))) who says there that the game is difficult? weaklings, this game is too tough for you. A lot of glitches in the game have been noticed, it is necessary to polish.

Man, I would not able to tell if this is 4 or 5. It feel the same like other Unreal 4 game if I not digging deeper but by playing only
look and graphic and stuff but I guess 5 lighting are pretty good here. Of course it all depend on dev to make these look good
dont like that sun flare to my eye tho. It blind me but AI dont
currently I going to not care bout AI for now as long as dev not allow their shot to go through wall. Give them more hearing and let them gussing 90% almost hit player if that wall not there while wallbang/How they know that player? whatever is alright for me
kinda waiting for more lore and porn content beside raping. Want something replayability and meaningful change player might able to make toward the game

I hope dev focus on more fun stuff first before adj ai. I dont mind that much that they using default animation or something but I hope one day they will have life like animation and doing stuff like stop and sit, drinking, eating, smoking, chating with friendly, suffer from anomaiy IF follow you into 1, drowning (Son Of The Forest have enemy drowing and here they just run into water and shoot through water), Specific enemy type animation like Corp will behaive more serious maner including other idle animation etc.

I run with GTX 3060 and my PC crashed while playing... Anyone know why? My driver is updated as well
I'm running RTX 3080 and had game craching as well on v14 (on v8-11 versions never happened before), happened I think at least 3 times. In my case, after playing for over an hour windows just randomly blue screen and throw "clock watchdog timeout". Didn't bother before to figure out why that happens as after restart everything seems to work just fine and I couldn't find in Win event viewer what caused the crash...

Here's a good thread for it if its the same codes that is.

In any case don't think its caused by the game or HW.
Running 3080 here as well and everything is fine even after long time playing.
Could be also worth doing a stress test on the cpu to see if it crashes, or reinstalling windows about 2 times a year is a good idea in general imo.

I am using a different crack than the one provided in the thread but that's probably inconsequential.

The only hard part of the game is the RNG, bugs, and visibility. The gunplay is easy if you have played any shooter in the past five years.
