Two sides of a coin here. For me, I haven't invested myself into any character just yet, as there hasn't been enough content to warrant that much investment. With the sister for instance, there is barely any information about her for me to care enough about her character. So when they dropped that bomb of what she does for a living, while it may be upsetting to hear, it wasn't enough for me to blow a gasket over cause we barely have had any time with that character for me to get invested enough in them for that to matter. There is a shy difference between a book and this. Here at least I got really deep into the character and that's where if something shitty happens, it literally hurts and pisses me off. The book doesn't get that deep into me either. That's why dev should at least think a bit about what they're putting into their game and how many players they're willing to lose. Especially in the situation we are in now, when the game is not a goldmine for him yet. Mistakes at this stage can be very fatal and trust cannot be regained easily.
If it was late in the game, after we've learned a lot about these characters and spent tons of time with them and got heavily invested in them, then yeah that would absolutely suck ass to have that dropped on you. But right now? We barely know anything about these characters and haven't spent nearly enough time with any of them for it to mean much.
And as I said, I don't take any of this personally. None of it's real, it's just a story I'm reading. So if someone does something fucked up in these games, I don't let it ruffle my feathers too much lol. Sure it sucks, but it's just a game. There are thousands of others. If I don't like it, I just go play something else.
