Dev update 10.10.2021
Today's dev update is going to be a bit longer, since it was pretty much a year ago when I started drawing the first two characters, Shani and Ain. I want to give you guys more insight on what you can expect from future updates. Without spoilers, I will explain how the gameplay is going to be structured, and how this ties to all the characters we have made so far. As I said it has been a year into delevopment so far, and we have started a lot of different character arcs, hinting at individual stories. We also said that there is a main plot that we need to build up first. Because we have many characters, there are only so many stories or gameplay features we can expand on in each update. The harem and more upcoming free roam mechanics are one thing, necessary story beats and quests, another.
Story and characters
As you have seen so far, when playing alongside certain characters, they each have their own ways of interacting with the MC and, while you almost always have two paths on how to treat a girl, there are natural limitations to the role each character can take (for now). While you can expect more action oriented, bloody and sociopathic content with the Raider sisters, you will get opportunities for more romantic and down-to-earth events with Kateryna.
That doesn't mean there won't ever be a romance option with Asha at the end, as we're not ruling anything out, but the focus is on being a Raider and, well... being a jackass.
How things will be structured:
In 0.5 we introduced the different factions which will play an important role in the story (depending on whether you help them or not) and, as you can see, the mutants will be relevant again in 0.08 (provided you didn't let Ivy die).
Each faction will have dedicated quests, which will, comprehensively, tie into the main quest. Those faction quests will (over time) come in the form of new locations from where you can freely select the missions, but more on that in future updates.
While the game's overal story arc does not revolve around the girls and how to date them, like many other games do, they are obviously still a strong element of the plot and the game itself, so that even those "story focused" events will sometimes be about developing and giving insight into a character, like you saw in the arena event with the Queen. This is so because these characters will be relevant to said over arching plot.
Shani heading to the Zone is a necessary step for the main plot (which is slowly being introduced), but it is also vital for her character arc, so it may feel like we're stretching the plot at times, or leaving it to the side, when we really are not.
In short, the main story telling is tied to some of the character arcs and vice versa.
NSFW scenes
The other thing I want to address is the length of the NSFW scenes, their quantity and quality with regards to animations.
As I have said before, I want to try something new in this update. So far, we've had a solid number of scenes with girls, some immediately after meeting them (Fangs, Nadia), and some where what might happen or not is still up in the air (Ivy, Shani).
I always think it's lame if you have to look up a walkthrough to see whether the dev prefers you to give the girl a banana or a coconut which will determine whether she opens up to you or not, or letting the player wait for 1,5 years to see any action with any girls at all. So we have used a variety of both quick action and long winded character romances.
But overall those scenes I depicted are very short, and some have said they would prefer more "feeling" in them. So, what I'm trying to do this time around (you can let me know whether you like it or not) is to have fewer, but longer, more intense and realistic NSFW scenes. It stands to reason that characters that the players have been waiting for for a long time (the Queen for instance), should get a solid scene as a payload eventually, and not a handful of renders and a short animation. The plan is for this to include a few more animations, but we will see how that pans out.
