In the version v0.18.3-market, image quality has deteriorated due to excessive compression, relative to older versions (0.18.0, 0.17.1.2, etc.)

What's wrong with this developer if he decided that an average of ~315 KB for 1920×1080 is too much and needs to be compressed to ~230 KB?
Putting so much work into creating renders only to have them blurred by compression, where's the logic?
Maybe he releases some kind of “premium” version of a larger size?

If you enable sharing, then you can tell them to do so, but the last decision is up to the player.
So the answer is no, unless you as player decide to go there. nothing is forced if it is that what you're asking.

is there a uncompressed version of the game (with no compressed vids) , as previous version 0.18.1 was almost 7gb. I prefer uncompressed version as it does not slow the computer. the 0.18.3 is only 4giga. have a nice day all

If the decision to either leave her behind with the decayed or take her with you uses a variable it might be possible to use it again to allow the player to decide whether or not to sell her, in that case your most recent save might still be loadable.

But even if that was the case, I would rather him work on an Ain, or Emilia bedroom repeatable(Shani already has 2).

That is the uncompressed version. That is the version you get directly from SS/Patreon or Steam.

One week later, hi again! What's new? So far, in terms of new content, not much yet, sadly. I’ve been planning the upcoming scene for this update for a bit longer, as well as Nadia's upcoming content. Not sure if the minx will get to be in the spotlight in this or a future update, but what's coming is interesting. She will be freed from the shackles of her lame stepdad! Or will she? What happens now that Rabiah is more confident? And will Omar dislike, or mostly dislike whatever is coming? That could be up to you...
Also, Chili is giving you a glimpse into what I meant by cleaning up the to-do list — other examples could be animating the first time with Emilia, or adding a new option to sell Kyra off while she's in your basement... I’ve talked about it before; time to get it done for 0.19. I’m sure I’ll start rendering tomorrow. See you next Sunday for some previews!

However, that doesn't change the fact that 0.18.3 weighs almost half as much as the previous version 0.18 (as mentioned above). Personally, I didn't notice any compression artifacts on my 24” 1920x1080 monitor, but that's just me, my glasses and my monitor.

But I quite admit that people playing on monitors with a larger diagonal or/and higher screen resolution may notice this сompression effect “from the dev”...So it's probably easier to ask this question in the dev's discord.

They said in one of the devlogs that they optimized the game a lot better, same with the animations and images. There were also many changes to images (either removed or optimized). There also have't been any complaints about what they've did besides screwing up a lot of the animations due to compression which they fixed in v0.18.3, v0.18.4 just adds some translations.

The game has gotten progressively smaller with each update. I don't notice anything either, but I'm not one that oogles graphics either.

Since this game got so many positive reviews, well, it got me curious.

But since it's Ren'Py, I mostly can't work with those "type of games"

So here my question:

Can you actually do something in this game?

You know, like scavage around, walk to different places, talk to different people (or especially don't talk to certain people, if you don't wish to), have an active inventory?

Or is it just (harshly spoken and mostly judged by other Ren'Py games) a clickfeast slideshow with one render image to the next render image, only a shortly interrupted by a "yes orno" decision question.

As far as I know, it has a sandbox structure. In other words, you perform certain actions by clicking on things on the screen. However, in the end, every game is limited by Ren'Py's constraints in this regard. After all, Ren'Py is a game engine designed primarily for making visual novels.

All quite good games, still made with Ren'Py, but quite far from the usual image-to-image way.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna judge or discredit any of the other Ren'Py content.
It's just not my interest.

So even if Desert Stalker is one of the best Visual Novels with some player input,
I'd probably not gonna like it, if I generally don't like Novels???

I've only played "Lust Hunter" among the games you mentioned. However, I don't think it had such an advanced inventory system, etc. That said, I haven't played it in over a year, so there have probably been a lot of changes. Maybe someone with more up-to-date knowledge can chime in.
