Just a little mini-update before tomorrow's weekly post. We've been working on some fun stuff over here that we're excited to share.
Ever play a Virtual Novel where the main character goes some place public, but the only people in the image are the perhaps the MC and the person he is there to talk to? Maybe the characters are on a date or they are having a cup of java in the café, but they're the only ones there!
I know, I know, it's a small thing. But in my personal experience, that small thing can really fuck with my immersion. Thus we decided a long time ago that when we did our project, we were going to commit to doing more detailed renders.
Later, we of course learned that having so many models in the screen eats up memory and destroys any chance of doing a fast and economical render which is why most devs don't do large crowds.
Then we discovered billboards! Billboards allow you to render large crowds using little memory at a blazing fast speed. We shopped around and soon discovered that billboard collections are not only expensive, but don't exist for some of the places we want to go (like a strip club for instance...).
Thus, Fecal spent ten minutes learning how to make billboards from scratch and within two hours we had a fully populated strip club, complete with custom models, poses and angles.
I was so excited with the final result (and how little time it took) that I wanted to share it with you immediately.
Based on the previous character information we provided on Lita and Lola, you may have guessed that one of Roger's next destinations will be a house of ill repute called Caligula's.
And so I am pleased to bring you a sneak peek of what the interior of that august establishment has to offer.

Wow, the attention to detail is really amazing. I think it's the first time I'm seeing anything like this. In most of the games, the NPC just appears right in front on the MC and takes up most of the screen and the whole place is empty, and in others it's filled with black people. I don't mean that as a race but like how those DoD creatures were black (eg. Milfy City). But this is really going to increase the involvement of the player to the next level. Seriously impressed!

Only problem though with having full scenes is that you'll start getting hit with these types of questions. Can we fuck the red head? Can we fuck the bubble butt? Can we fuck the girl in the lingerie? Can we fuck the highly pixelated limber ass girl? Or other questions like that.

What version of the game would I receive when I become a patron? I was a patron before but stopped when the development stopped and I am interested in playing more.

The latest patron release was 1.0.4
The latest public version is 1.0.0
Check their patreon page for more info for different tier rewards/release schedules etc

We figured it was time we did Emily a little justice. We put together the environment for Roger's mancave for a different upcoming scene, but thought Emily made a nice decoration on the billiard table.
Putting together these wallpapers is good practice for us. It's a chance for us to play with lighting and experiment a little without compromising the game. That said, enjoy another full custom pose set from zero and perfectly fit to Emily.

I was wondering when some stuff for the wife emily was going to show up. I like the setting in the picture. Making you decide between her and a game of pool (We all know the obvious choice). Wish i had a mancave like that. I like the design on the bra and panties as well.

I appreciate putting people into a setting even if your not using them. It gives the place a sense of atmosphere and tells the player that world is a living place with other people. This is a nice place to go meet Lola or Lita depending on our preference. Glad to hear that coming up with billboards of your own will add some flair to your already great game.

I usually turn down music. If you're gonna add music it has to put you in the mood.
In the case of voice acting as much I love it if it is bad it will break the game. With VA you either do it right or not do it at all.
Sound advice!

Guys, this game isn't completed yet, I know, but IF there were multiple endings planned, has ONE been completed yet?
I'm sure by now someone has already answered, but at this time, no. None of the arcs are completed.

I like both. When it's good\suitable of course. If i could choose one, i'd prefer some good bgm\sound effects though. Love it when it suits the scene. And contrary to the previous commenters, i pretty much never turn sound down\off in the games if it's not too loud. It even adds to my relaxation or immersion more, not distracts. Less sure about voice acting since sometimes it can pretty bad in the games of this kind. But when it's quality and sensual, then of course by all means. Overall, for me these both are always important parts of what can make the quality game even better. As for the demand, i'd say there are, but probably would be in big favor of just wanting music since many are just as unsure about voice actresses.
We'd be inclined to add music first since that really is a simple addition. It's just a matter of sifting through some tunes and finding music that creates the desired mood. Implementation would be rather swift. Voice acting is something that would be a ways off. We don't want anything that would "cheapen" the game. So the voice acting would have to be top notch for us to be willing to use it.

Sounds/music is fine as long as you set it up to where you can turn them down.
Voices are fine as long as you can turn them off or on as well and don't do like daughter for dessert and use it as a cash grab. They have it to where somewhere in each game the people talking have voices but after a bit it gets removed with the if you want them to continue to have voices become a member. I would prefer that daughter for dessert didn't play the voices unless you select it. If it's not in the whole game then I don't want to hear it.
We're not in the "cash grab" game. If we were we'd still be charging extra for the animations. No, at this point we're adopting more of a Deming approach. We want to be profitable and successful and our strategy to achieve that is by making the highest quality product we can. We are constantly exploring ways to improve our process(to achieve higher quality than before in less time than before) as well as ways to improve our final product.

"Profit through superior products and service" that's the goal. If we add music or sound, it will be to improve the actual quality of the product and increase immersion. If it comes off as gimmicky or cheesy, then it has to be discarded. And any such additions will be available in all versions of the game, public and private.

Patrons who contribute long enough to get the latest release or get in on a deal or gimmick are great. We appreciate it, but they don't last. We really want people to become patrons and support us because they love what we are doing and want to see us doing it forever (I know we'd like to be doing it forever)! But those are the kinds of loyal patrons that really contribute to a project. And the only way we can convince people we're worth that kind of long term support is to create the best product we can.

@RomanHume if billboards are so expensive and there aren't many of them in certain interesting places, maybe you could supplement your income by selling billboards to other artists...

It's an excellent suggestion.

We've actually considered this. But what we've decided to do is continue making them as we need them and when we've built up a sizable collection offer them up for sale. We figure by that time we'll be long done with them and it will help us avoid stopping production while we jam out on a side business.

While we do have plans for different stories staring different patients of Dr. Amana, we will not be working on any of those other tales until we have completely finished up Roger's story. Once we've told his story start to finish, then we'll kick off a new project using the next patient.

Thanks for the response RomanHume! I had interpreted things that way but probably rambled a bit in the review and came off confused. Hehe. I suppose I'm just excited about the current story and hope to see lots and lots of content for it. Thanks a bunch for the really exciting game. :)

I have to ask how many different endings are you planning. From what we learned from other games too many different paths does take a toll on the writer but the main question is Will we be able to get a divorce(Hopefully peaceful) and remarry Jane(My preferred ending) XD...

For a final note: I did professional voice acting. I would've sent a demo but I think my 27 year old voice is a bit high pitched for a 40+ year old man :p

To address your first statement, I'd like to quote Al Swearengen: "I'd rather try touching the moon than take on a whore's thinking."

I jest of course. I'm not saying no, but I am saying that it would be a major challenge for me, and I'd have to really feel primed to take on that mission. And I may get there one day sooner or later, fortune willing we get to make another game after this and another after that. But I won't lead you on and say that it will be anytime soon.

However, we are hoping that one day we are making enough on the project that we can hire some additional team members. One thought we had was, if we get to that point, let the new team members sink their teeth into a small, Dr. Amana one-shot story. For instance, we hire on a new Daz artist or a new writer and we let the take one of the existing characters in our story, say Lola or Lita, and write a three scene short story with that character telling the Dr. about their own lives.

It would be a short run-off story with a few choices and ending after about three scenes. But it would be a good chance for us to gauge the ability of any new team members without jeopardizing any of the quality we're trying so hard to build at the moment. In the event we ever get to do that, I might try to write a couple of short stories with female characters just to try my hand at it and see if it's something I'm good at. Food for thought.

We've been thinking about the endings from day one. We had too or like you said, the complexity would get away from us and we'd quickly find ourselves in a situation where we can't economically tie everything up. Knowing all the possible endings ahead of time helps us write the story in between. This way no matter which choices a player makes we know we're heading towards one of several endings. So fortunately we have that part well in hand.

As far as the number, almost all of the love interests will have a happy ending and a "sad" ending (maybe not sad if you're the one that booted her to the curb). Each of these endings may include having a child if pregnancy is on, and may or may not include a harem style variant. While this may not be true for every character, figure on average each character will have four possible endings which are really just combinations of Happy/Sad/GaveBirth/Harem.

I know there are often debates about the meanings of certain words and fetishes, so let me also clarify that when we say harem, we mean the possession of multiple lovers who are aware of the others but may or may not be living together.

This does not mean that all of the girls are going to move into Roger's house and everyone is going to turn Mormon. It just means that at the end of the story, one or more lovers may know about the others, but be too enamored with Roger to care and thus be willing to share him indefinitely. And in that way you can technically "have" all of the characters to yourself.

I hate to disappoint, but there will be no ending with a mega-orgy of all seven characters in the same sex scene. I know, I'm a fucking party slayer. But even I can't write a quasi-believable ending with these characters in which that would happen. It would be so far out of the realm of belief that I might as well just be writing a straight up porn complete with bad dialogue and a wa wa pedal.

I appreciate that but it has already been determined that if we have voice acting I will be doing all of the characters. I'm told that for a middle-aged man I actually do a very good impression of a Japanese woman cumming. I can also do "young virgin masturbating" and "teenage not-daughter getting railed".

Even so, we'll keep in mind that you've got experience! Who knows, there may be an appropriate character somewhere along the way.

Regarding voice; I've seen the opinion of full or nothing, but I honestly have no problem with the approach of past, lower budget titles of having a little voice, specifically at the start of the game, just to give an impression of the characters, in the same way that there are text based games that have a few images.
It may not be everyone's taste, but I don't see that as breaking immersion - it rather gives me a baseline for my imagination to start from. Though I have to admit I mostly read and don't even imagine any actual dialogue at all.
