Pretty much considering Month 1 a catching up session for fixin years of faulty coding and half assing shit to just get updates out, as Bluecat ran through coders until landing on Latecomer who then began fixing and optimizing shit. Once its done, that's it, no more of these standalone weeks, until the next standalone four weeks probably god dammit...

He wasn't the main coder in those early days, the original coder is unnamed and why the first three days needed redone originally, then it was Boom, before Late took over I think in week 1's merge, and has been working on improvements and the like since then.

I actually think the opposite would have been better. Instead of making every release a new part of a larger game, maybe that should have treated each week as a stand alone release. That way they could improve each week as they go, instead of worrying about fixing the problems with the older stuff in order to intergrade it with the new stuff.

That depends on continuity, if your personal preference matters the characters you interact and the way you interact/the ones you fuck and the ones you refuse to fuck, then one long story should be the standar, if it doesn't/it's a story with a single or binary ending at the end regardless of previous choice, then it's not necesary

I assume it would be in the realm of programing nightmare to go back and do a head-count of the choices previously made, even for those playing it

Daughter for dessert had to make cheats specially for those who donated on patreon to see multiple paths in a single chapter along with not allowing even a half-assed galery.

I'll put your last point into perspective, there's this company called Black Lilith making this series of VN called Taimanin they make other games of course but this one is their main franchise, their VN's run in this engine older that Ren'py called Kirikiri and their VN can be a 40+ hours marathon with multiple paths

I know i shouldn't compare a company that had such a long time learning how to handle a code to a newbie, but as someone i know that's working on reverse a game made from a heavily modified-source code of another genre puts it "the quality of the code is directly proportional to how competent the coder/programer is" when you lean into that logic, you are lowering the standar, which leads to giving excuses for games like yandere simulator or fallout 76

Actually it would be pretty easy because all choices were tracked with variables such as d1d1 (day 1 decision 1) and so on.

Bluecat has a bunch of features he wants in the game that are not standard to Ren'py and probably shouldn't have been tried without more experience. Frankly, this is why I tell new devs that they should make a small game first before trying something more ambitious. But it's his game and once the merge is complete it all should work and saves should transfer between weeks. That is the main reason for the merge and why it's taking so long.

I wonder what in the actual fuck go through some devs head to split their games up like that... Sure it might be slightly better for people with limited bandwidth, but it is not like they are making a new chapter each week ffs. Wouldn't it be better to download ONE game, instead of 3 "weeks" + a lot of specials?

Sorry for ranting, i just had to get it out, kinda tired of the same repeating bullshit that goes with those games.

In this case breaking the game up was necessary. Day 1 (not week 1, Day 1) on release was over 2 Gb and had more content than most completed games at the time. Each subsequent day has been roughly as large, although thanks to better compression and coding have been much smaller in size. While there's not a lot of branching, the current 21 days are probably enough to put this in the top 3 biggest porn games. There's also some bugs with some of the features that can crash the game when trying to transfer saves, so breaking it into weeks wasn't entirely by choice.

Like cant we get the next updates that were ready by themselves while they work on the merge? The merged is supposed to be the full game right, with nothing new added. So why not just release the next update as update the latest one, and work on the merge. At this point its been so long probably have to replay the story anyway. Just to remember what happened.

It's the feature I'm most excited about, but I agree completely.

The character info is my favorite feature of the game as well!
Glad the team is making some progress. I feel really bad for that crew- so much negativity surrounding their works. Hopefully everything can get back on track once they release the merger and we can get the stats back later ^_^.

Two problems with that, one the update has to play nice with the merge, so it has to be done first before anything new is released. Two? You'll have to replay the whole game anyways, this whole thing will be incompatible with anything previously done of course, therefore you wouldn't have any degree of variables loaded into the updates properly until you first played through Month 1, and to do that, the Merge must finish.

This is why the smartest decision was to do it all at once, to avoid these types of headaches in the staggered format that was also suggested. This way, all you have to do is sit and wait, no fumbling around with shit or having things break because of updates not playing nice or correctly as the merge processes stretches out.

I would love to play them but sadly without the patches i can't.

They are there. They're just poorly named. Click "Show previous versions" and it will show you all the past patches.
Week 1: Week 1 - Final
Week 2: 8-14 - Final Release
Week 3: Day 20+21 - Final

Hopefully, when the Merge releases, they'll clear out the old ones and only save the most recent update of any particular release.

Personally I hope the cardinfo feature keeps getting pushed back beyond month 1 release. I get people like it and all but at the end of the day the game needs to get back to a regular schedule and it's already going to be a game for the longhaul since bluecat wants to do a full year in the game. If the cardinfo gets pushed back a couple months (whatever that translates into for 'game world time') but we get consistent updates I think that's the better solution going forward.

That said, that's based on knowing nothing about post month 1 content and if the cardinfo is "important" to that immediate future content.

Either way it'll be interesting to see if anything notable has been changed in the merge but replaying it will also take time so I guess I'll find out. I know I'll be changing some of the choices I made previously for the new save based on what I somewhat explored in multiple saves before.

I'm guessing that will be during it's own merge? Unless they intend to retroactively patch it into everything that came before, but that sounds like a pain in the arse.
