You might want to pull the stick out, and/or stop acting like your few measly dollars are worth more than anyone else's.I did buy it on Steam, and playing it on Steam. When I buy a "finished" game, not one on EA, I expect my work to not be completely lost mid-playthrough. I am not sure having an attitude about it is going to help here.
Also, you can add those switches in Steam as well, if you know anything about Steam.
Major game companies have upgraded their engine part way through development, or after release and had very significant issues at times, including save game problems.
If something this minor causes such a piss-poor attitude from you, you must have hell dealing with your day to day life.
Loosen up before you pucker your backside so much you rip the bottom out of your chair.
