Hey folks,
Been tinkering with something pretty neat – adding AI voices to characters in AVNs using RenPy, and I started this experiment with Eternum. It turned out pretty well, but here's the thing: quality doesn't come cheap. Just for voicing the first chapter of Eternum, it looks like we're facing a $330 fee with ElevenLabs. Kinda steep, huh?
This is where an idea popped up: How about crowdfunding? If we’re all as excited about bringing our favorite characters to life, pooling together might just make it feasible. It’s a bold move, but just imagine the difference it could make.
For a sneak peek at what this could look like, check out this demo of Orion’s voice: . Gives a pretty cool glimpse into the potential, doesn’t it?
Chapter 1 alone has 1,747,273 characters of dialogue. Interested in the nuts and bolts (and prices)? Take a look here: .
So, what do you think? Is this something we might want to dive into as a community? I’m game for getting the ball rolling if there’s enough interest.
Keen to get your take on this – could we make an AI-voiced Eternum a reality? Let’s discuss below and maybe kickstart something amazing!

Cool idea, but Orion's voice in some of the lines in the sneakpeek seems really robotic to me. I get that it's AI but it's supposed to be immersive and I feel that it's actually breaking from that rather than adding to the immersion with such a robotic voice. Good luck either way though
Edit: really don't know why my reply quoted your message 2 times lol

The ai voice idea wasn't really my thing but I didn't expect the feedback to be so harsh
I think it was more that it seemed like he wanted money from other Users, I don't know how much since I didn't look at his links, while his account was made just today and with that particular name so it seemed a bit suspiciousto me at least, that made the feedback so harsh but that's just my opinion.

AI voices might very much be the future, although probably less for the MCs of these games. But I would want the developer to use the voices he imagines for the characters.

Also asking for money being the first thing to do here...yeah...not exactly the best idea, I guess.

I typically mute (or the next thing to it) AVNs first thing. Aside from which I have a general distaste for machines talking to me.

I don't mind some of the sex moans (as long as it isn't that godawful stuff they do for Japanese porn), but I don't really like "voice acting" in them - I like to choose the voices that appeal to me and imagine them. It's the way I've always read. Never been a fan of "books on tape" for the same reason.

The couple of VNs I've done with voice acting have often used the "wrong" voice for the characters. In one, the voice used for the "landlady" was probably a 20-something, while the voice used for the 19 year old "roommate" sounded over 40 with a two-pack-a-day habit. I've just turned it off. When it's on the same channel as other sounds, it's a bummer, but if it has its own, it works. Those .wav .mp3 files also take up a ton of space, so the VN gets really unwieldy really quickly without some super-sized compression.

AI moaning would probably be awful

I turn it on occasionally during the sex scenes just to hear the robotic voice trying to do the scene. Usually makes me LOL for a while. The lewder the scene the better ;)

I don't mean the reading voice, I mean actual AI voice over that will sound pretty real. ;)

Wasn't there someone who tested by modding the game with ai voice before? I don't think it was ElevenLabs and it definitely sounded way better than what this EternumAiVoice guy showed.

Real, sure. But it's either bloating the games weight by a few tens of gigs (+ tons of unnecessary work for dev) or hope that player have some high-performance PC, but if you have such PC, just do it yourself at this point.
