Best update so far. But to enjoy such comedic, satirical, wholesome yet arousing story and teasing scenes, it must be well-prepared for approximately 4-5 months long. So, see you on Aug or Sep.

I think I'm going to be in the minority, but I didn't like this update. To be fair, Eternum isn't really intended for me; I don't like harems and I prefer games to have choices with meaningful content on each side. So I'm not the game's target audience, but previously the awesome visuals and strong story more than made up for my concerns. This time though... the art was up to its usual standards but the story didn't do it. More importantly, this episode had a real sex offender vibe about it that squicked me out.

So there you have my thoughts. And I must say, I'd never fully appreciated how difficult it is to talk about a game-within-a-game that has the same title as the game itself.

tl;dr This update is gorgeous to look at and has a lot of fun parts, but I really didn't like the way it handled some of its sexual content. Much as I wish otherwise, I think this might not be the game for me.
Amazing writeup, I agree with most of what you say if not all. The new game is storywise conceptually almost a carbon copy of OIAL (new family, hot mom and two hot daughters, adventure involving a cult etc) but somehow for me it lacks a bit of that X factor (I guess that's the humor and sexual tension and excitement etc all together) compared to OIAL. Maybe thats because I know what to expect from Caribdis, Im not sure.

But I agree with you fully about the VR Eternum game, I get that it is a core plot vehicle for Caribdis to explore all these amazing adventurous environments like Victorian England, Rome, Ancient Egypt etc, but knowing that it's happening inside that VR Eternum game kinda kills the immersion a bit, eg knowing that the scene between Nancy and MC happened in a virtual world, not irl, makes it less exciting.

But even so, I wish that at least there was a greater buildup of the premise of having guilty secret sex in a VR world, eg that Nancy was shown being excited/scared/deliberating on how she could make it happen, or even if she should, she's 38 what is she thinking, etc. I expected more character development from her. After that gym scene it's like she had a sudden switch from insecure lonely mother to dick-chasing phenom, it's just too "gonzo" imo. And yes I know there was the scene where she was watching porn but that's not enough character development for her. I'm sad that it seems like Caribdis caved into criticisms about Carla from OIAL blueballing MC for the whole game, because that was spot-on character development. She's 30 something, of course she's gonna be super careful and scared of going into a sexual relationship with a guy the age of her two daughters. The great VNs are great cause they dont sacrifice the story a single bit just in order to appease the coomers. I hope Caribdis knows what he's doing, and I trust him to do good by this game by the end.

I also noticed he changed the way some girls look from 0.2 to 0.3, e.g. Dalia's face looks a lot different like she suddenly went from 18y/o to 22 y/o. Alex' appearance kinda changed too. Not necessarily bad just a bit apparent.

Caribdis if you're reading this, this whole post is constructive criticism referring to 0.1% of the game because the other 99.9% is so amazing and so great that I dont wanna spend an hour typing out how amazing it is. Thanx for everything, you truly create beautiful worlds, stories and characters ❤

It's so nice to be on the edge of my seat anticipating a game again. Sure, I've looked forward to other AVN updates and will continue to do so, but with the AAA market being kinda shit and a lot of AVNs fucked up due to corona, it's fucking great to be actually excited for something.

Found the game and had an amazing time with it. I would personally consider best game on the site.
As far as story goes, there are two issues with story that nag at me.
1. If you can move money out of the game, it seems that 2500$ buy-in should be no problem for Annie, given that she casually drops 1.5k for the Orion to play with. You would think she be able to buy implant for her friend a year ago, given that she plays for 3 years now.
2. Setting Alexandra aside, why Axel, favored son of uber-rich person, is studying in school for upper-middle class? No one else in his social strata here.

And one more thing that characters (seemingly) forgot about during heist discussion: Thanatos.
Vault, evidently, Thanatos-proof. But party aren't, given that he(?) twice took Gem from them. And if first time twins were not a secret, but new stone was complete secret and was found by Thanatos in like a day.
So either Thanatos is alter-ego of someone in the party, or he has some... external way to find Gems.

Regarding Axel: I assume that the school is simply the best in the area and there are no surrounding alternatives. Another guess: His dad simply has the school in his pocket, which makes sense regarding the beginning of Update 0.2 (the confrontation between Axel and Orion). Apart from that, our MC needs a rival outside of Eternum and Axel simply lends himself to that.

The 2,500 device thing I think makes sense in that I really assume Orion really wanted to earn the part for himself and Annie respected that. It also allowed Luna and her terrific father to be established in the plot more quickly.

As for the Gem of Doom in the vault:

I wouldn't be surprised if Thanatos either cooperates with Axel's father and wants to help him get his hands on the stones, so he leaves the vault alone.

Other ideas:

The current owner of this stone has connections to Ulysses so Thanatos has no chance to find this stone.

But what I rather suspect: Thanatos knows where the stone is. But he doesn't want to risk too much attention by breaking in. So he waits until someone does the dirty work for him and then he takes the Gem from them. Ideally, the Praetorians excommunicate the burglars, or what Thanatos leaves of them, and no one knows who really has the Gem until it's too late.

I was speaking more of in-world justification, it be nice if there will be reason given why he is not in one of Swiss schools for uber-rich.

"Orion wanted to archive implant himself" is nice enough explanation, but once again it be nice to have a line about dropped in-story.

Burglary does not seem to be a crime, i think only direct harm, like rape and torture fall under praetorians remit.
But yes, i'm sure Thanatos knows that there a Gem in the vault. My whole point was that so far party did not noted possibility of Thantos interrupt during heist, or in time between heist and the elite gathering.

I'm sure someone must have said this before already, but I find the captain of the praetorians at the end of 0.2 to be quite attractive, I wonder if we'll cross paths with her again at some point. To be honest they all are so hot omg, but this one especially

Also I wonder why the other two have weird freezing skin, also the ones that get shot down by Nova. The sniper one has normal skin. Maybe it's rank related? Or just a design choice.

Another thing, what's the consensus on praetorians? I did skim the thread searching for posts about this but I couldn't find anything substantial. They are not AI, right? I think that's pretty clear when they run away saying they should have chosen other jobs in Eternum like working at Aphrodite's.

Or maybe only low-ranks are actually people because now that I look more closely the sniper one and the captain have very similar eyes (white circular shine) and eyebrows and basically the same face (and not weird freezing skin)
Are they related or high-rank praetorians are indeed AI? Or maybe they are real people but Eternum allows that kind of customizations to high-rank praetorians? I don't know and I'm sure this must have been talked about before so I feel silly.

Anyway, praetorians are so interesting.

As a final note, Nova is so bad ass in that scene, I had forgotten about it, totally worth replaying.
I love this game and world so much.

P.S.: I think blue-balling a bit is alright, I actually (how should I put it) "finish" three times every play session. Also Nancy going to defend her empire and her attitude towards it was so funny but also made me like her a whole lot more than before, love that personality.

Thanks for great update again, i realy enjoyed my time and amazed by work you are doing again. Espacily seeing how MC improves with every update was pretty cool. I realy love that gladiator fight scene, it was pretty cool with that timed choices and sound effects and i wanna see more! But honestly there is couple things im not happy about it.

First of all our characters journey to find Calypso was darn amazing... The details we learn was mind blowing...

But aside from that you need to developt MC's powers better. Right now they are cliche ''Un-controlable shounen MC Powers.'' and its pretty annoying. I mean he have cool powers like catching arrows in mid-air or fighting aganist known most powerfull player of Eternum, but in the end having un-controlable powers means you actualy have zero power, if you can't control it you can't say its your own power. Espacily with his %100 compability he should have perfect control over his powers, so he not having any control over his powers makes zero sense. Best case senario we need training content ASAP and MC need to learn how to control these powers without any further delay. Every delay we gonna saw him using un-controlable powers, having problems, maybe even hurting people he love or trying to hurt etc. And honestly its probably gonna damage this game well writed story, so i hope you will fix this ASAP without any further delay.

And secondly connected with MC's powers his fight with Thanatos was pretty good, but Thanatos leaving battfield victorious everytime is not someting we should see, we are still in early parts of story and we have long way i gues? But with learning how to control his powers MC should be able to deal some damage to Thanatos being victorious every darn time. I mean he literaly take down MC and take stone without him releasing after he catched arrow mid-air coming from his back. That was kind of nonsense...

As for third im kind of tired of blue balling scenes... We saw these in your other game aswell and i know you are doing for adding some twist but honestly we don't need them. This game already have a lot funny scene literaly can make you piss your pants, a lot of great reference funny and cool etc. Blue balling scenes only works for annoying player... They are not funny.

Lastly i was waiting it will be fixed with this update but scene change effects can use some work, current when scene changes you see slow fade effect and its kind of looks bad and little bit annoying. Making faster probably will fix the problem.

BTW that was just GOLD LMAO. ''Me only wanted to welcomey...''

Glad to see some life being breathed into this thread, it deserves it. Hopefully this momentum can be maintained moving forward.

I didn't think it would be possible to love Nova more, but I do...

A thing to remember about Nancy; she is making her moves on the MC in Eternum. It is entirely possible that she is being so forward there because she sees it as "less than real." She may be more standoffish about it in the "real world." Remember the whole reason she wanted the link up was to pursue the MC in Eternum where it would be less real.

One of my favorite moments was when Alex and Nova were recounting the Thanatos encounter, that was adorable. There were so many funny moments in this.

true, but remember how The Founder stared at Orion when he first entered the game? He seemed to know him. The "dad" that raised him might not have been his biological father..

Also, considering that the harem ending is canon,
Got me thinking. Now that we have established the entire plot of Eternum takes place within the same universe as OIALT, i remembered there was a magic tome/book left behind by OIALT MC during the ending. And with how Stabby Mike had become a prominent figure (a college graduate, the president) in the Eternum timeline, it is safe to assume that Eternum takes place after OIALT. We don't know for sure how long, since we remember how Stabby Mike can attain fame and power in an instant (like how he became a well-known church pastor in less than a week). We also saw Thanatos has somewhat inhuman powers, like maintaining consciousness even after violently bleeding out from a severed hand.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but from the little i saw; although other Eternum players (except Orion) can have special abilities at higher level, it (the others' special abilities) did not seem to make them able to overcome their humanly physical limitations (physical durability, physical strength, any other physical attributes). We saw how this might not be the case with Thanatos. There was even a myth of Thanatos' invincibility within the Eternum playerbase. And it is unlikely for a game of hyper-reality MMORPG such as Eternum to grant cross-server invincibility to a player after reaching a certain level.

So perhaps Thanatos' powers is not obtained from the game itself, meaning he's probably inhumanly powerful even outside Eternum (in the real world).

If you haven't caught on to what i'm implying, perhaps Thanatos is someone in posession of said tome. Keep in mind i don't remember exactly what powers that tome offers. And the reason why he would choose to operate in Eternum (first, and not wreak havoc in the real world) was because of the rewards of gems of doom hunt. Regardless of his motives or plans, gaining power of such magnitude (CEO/owner of multi-billion dollar company) will at the very least assist his presumably villainous schemes.

Yet still don't get how Thanatos appears to understand, or at least know, the purpose of Calypso's creation. I believe this is implied by his line "You don't even know why you were created" in his dialogue with Calypso nearing their escape from Ogygia.

Based on this fact alone, i assumed he is some Ulysses exec looking to seize power from the founder. And coupled with the classic trope of "the big bad guy was already teased from early on in the story", it made me guess it is William Bardot. But when we combine this conclusion with my arguments in other paragraphs above, there seems to be a huge missing link. Hopefully this makes sense.

I understand that my theory might be farfetched and biased. At the very least, i hypothesize that the tome in OIALT will play a role in Eternum's plot.

Sorry but how can we be sure that Eternum and OILT is in the same "universe" ?
Sorry but my English is too bad o understand someething really specific.
