Soooo...if I got it right,to return all the old music back for the next updates, all we have to do is create an audio folder in Eternum/game and put all the changed music we extracted from 0.8.5 there.Don't wanna deep dive into Ren'Py,but according to ChatGPT,files from the "game" folder have higher priority over .rpa,so everything should work  If someone knows it better, feel free to share:giggle:

actually... if i am correct. having duplicate files in the gamefolder that matches what is inside .rpa files, will cause conflicts. you can have either or, but not both at the same time. but i could be wrong. (i had that problem when creating a Mod for a game a while back)

Welp, that was fun while it lasted.

Guess the game finally got big enough that those damnable fucks at those "royalty free music" sites started to take notice.

(Also I suppose it didn't help that SOME people just had to yap at the YT comments of some artists' YT channels that had their songs featured in Eternum which eventually put the game in their crosshairs. Thanks a lot guys. Really did a solid for Cari there. :cautious:)
Hate to say it but was bound to happen, hence why I only put the Dead List in Youtube music.

You just knew that eventually the fanbase would get to this and it was a "later rather than sooner" situation from the minute some of these songs got associated with a popular adult game.

Can't blame social media too much, people don't know any better to listen to a caveman or a dwarf...

Due to a licensing and guidelines issue with a music platform
Just an FYI. I know a couple of lads that make songs so IDK the process myself but from what they told me:
In cases like this, the artists may have no issue with the use of their songs in the game but because they gave the rights to a third party it's out of their hands unless they directly intervene.

I'm saying this because we're on the internet and I know some people already grabbed their pitchforks and are ready for war:KEK:

It is a shame really BUT I'd like to remind everyone that WE ARE pirates so we could just act like we're supposed to and APPROPRIATE the current music folder by simply making a BK of if and hiding it under a conveniently marked X spot. Like this we can always replace the new music with the old one at our convenience without getting Cari in any trouble.

Well I'll be- would you look at that, someone done did just that or something similar to that. YAAAR MATEY(y)
Mega

Link to mega folder with all changed/removed .ogg files. The program I used to compare solely goes by binary data, so whether this is a complete list I can't tell, but I figure I at least have most of it
Old songs marked with {old} at end
New songs marked with {new} at end
Removed songs marked with {removed} at end
That way the new+old versions of the song are next to eachother, since apparently on mega (on pc at least) you can play .ogg files so you won't even need to download them to be able to listen to what has been changed.

Obvious potential spoilers if you haven't played the latest update yet.

P.S: I never thought I'd live to see the day when the people here will choose not to get a new patch for the game. Yet here we are.
No,thanks :giggle:

I wouldn't use that one, that mega is specifically for comparing old vs new, since the files have been renamed. I am currently testing something to restore the old music though. Trying to see whether the game would prioritize the .rpa files or unpacked files at the moment

TL;DR of what's below: Download mod > grab game folder > put in eternum folder. Unless you've unpacked the RPA you won't have to overwrite anything

Ok it seems that the game prioritizes /game/audio/music over the .rpa version, so all that needs to be done is unpack the zip, grab the game folder and drag it into your Eternum folder. That should restore the music back to the original songs. I've tested it on a few songs in a freshly unpacked 0.8.6 version (windows, specifically) and it played the original music.

Unless Caribdis has to remove more songs again in the future, this should be futureproof and safe to use in all versions from 0.8.6 and above to restore the music that was used in 0.8.5 and before

The hyrilar cliffhanger? That was so epic tho. Dammit
It also worked so smooth with the animation (especially the transition before Lorelei pops up and ends the chapter). The new one is good, but the original sent to me a mood similar to Yoda's theme in terms of fantasy and 'innocence' (I don't quite know how to explain it ).

Oh and RIP Nova RPG too.

Good luck in your endevour then. I wonder if you could ask the mods to add it on the front page as a mod if you succeed.
Alternatively we could just leave the file here and tell people to search for it to keep it away from Prying Eyes:unsure:

Edit: I just saw new the post. Congrats!

In this case,we can also do the same, but unarchive the update archive as well, remove the .rpa, and archive everything back after replacing

yeah, or just keep the unarchived folder. renpy sees the folders the same as rpa files. it's not the same way a patch.rpy files overide content

Hmm, I have played lots of games where I would extract the .rpa file however keep the original archive as well, and it never seemed to cause problems.
If however someone runs into issues, i suppose what they could do is
  1. Download Unren from F95
  2. Put Unren in your Eternum folder
  3. Open Unren, choose choice 1 (Extract .rpa packages)
  4. Wait for Unren to be done, then drag the game folder from my music restoration patch into the eternum folder
  5. Overwrite when prompted
  6. Delete archive.rpa from eternum-{version}/game/

Eternum Music Restoration mod (partially tested)

Great work! I tested it and it works. I loaded up a bunch of old scenes with 0.8.6 and your mod and the music was restored, EXCEPT for hyrilarcliff.ogg. For some reason it's still playing the new song.

will go and check

Edit Ah, I have found the reason. The script was changed and the filename is now "hyrilarclifflong", so I will just quickly rename the original and reupload the patch in the original post I made about it.
also, that file is the only one that seems to be mp3. Just replacing it with a new .ogg file still plays the original mp3, so I'm testing whether the original song as mp3 will play over the new .mp3 if I convert it

Edit2. Converting the original song from .ogg to .mp3 and renaming it to the new name seems to have worked. Mod link has been updated to version where the original hyrilarcliff plays

Important Update: Changes to the Game’s Music

Hey everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to share an important update regarding Eternum’s soundtrack. Due to a licensing and guidelines issue with a music platform, we’ve had to remove all of its content from the game. Unfortunately, this means that a few of the tracks you’ve come to love will no longer be present.

However, thanks to the incredible effort of several community members, we’ve replaced those songs with other free alternatives and AI-generated pieces to try to maintain the game’s atmosphere. This wasn’t a choice we made willingly, but a necessary action to ensure the project can continue without complications.

Keep in mind that the new version 0.8.6 doesn't include any new content—the only change is the updated sound.

Resolving this issue temporarily paused development, but we’re now back on track and moving forward with 0.9 as planned.

I truly appreciate your understanding and support through this. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but I hope you’ll continue to enjoy Eternum as we keep improving it.

Sincerely,

Caribdis

I wasn't prepared for this...

I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened to Badik, Eternum and they always had and still have top soundtracks...
and thanks to that they sometimes even become trending on YouTube and Spotify
Doesn't DPC buy licenses?
