FYI: Traditionally when a new version has been released on this site, you'll see a lot of posts about it.
As you can see from the posts above yours they are all about the dev lying and deceiving his patrons..
Plus traditionally when a game gets updated with a new version the main post will be updated as well.

There is a fella doing a Metal Slug kinda of game, solid pixel art.
And his other project looks like a futuristic gothic Metroidvania.
But the fella has only one supporter if he had at least 500 of the Hellius supporters his projects would go a long way.
The guy is good.
Check his Twitter posts, his animations are pretty good.

Looking back through the thread and old Patreon posts he originally said he made the game online only as part of an investment deal with some big Japanese game publisher who offered him a mocap studio in Japan.
Would someone be kind enough to tell me how to get this to run, please? I've extracted and run the game, as per the Installation instructions on the OP, but it keeps opening Steam. So I tried downloading that, then copy/pasted all the stuff from the 0.4.9 stuff into the folder that Steam installed its demo version, and it still just opens to the game's listing on Steam.

I have no idea why running this game is so hard for some people. Download it, extract it, run KiritoMod049.exe, that's it.
F95 seems to have become a gateway site to the wider internet for a lot of users, so you've got a bunch of newbies who have only just left facebook/youtube and are now venturing out into the scary world of 'torrenting' and 'extracting a zip file'. Using lingo like 'OP' might translate to 'Original Post' to me and you, but a lot of people are going to be baffled by it.
Double so when they're ESL and the language used in install instructions isn't their strongest.

If he decided to terminate this game and move on to create a new gacha game, considered his fate is sealed like that Mirror 2 game where the old reputation of scamming people caught up to new game and got exposed hard and got the game removed from Steam and the company officially bankrupt and people keep stepping on them for eternity.

It ain't right, but it is what it is.
There's not as much money in crowdsourcing non-porn games however, at least not for a mediocre dev, and Helius isn't even a mediocre dev. If he is telling the truth above taking VC money* they will also absolutely roast him if this game flops and/or doesn't launch so he won't be walking off carelessly into the sunset even if the backers never get their money game or the game they paid for.
*big if, I know.

I'd recommend a 3060 or 3070 or equivalent in performance for 60fps at 1080p high settings. DON'T just buy one of these and look up your local market properly before deciding.

That's by design, as the only way is to pay more money for virtual currency you can use to accelerate unlocks etc. It's why the backers are angry at Helius turning the game into a F2P shit show.
