I have never really understood the hate for NTR, especially in a game where the MC is probably fucking at least half the cast anyway...

Notwithstanding that some more outspoken parts of the "No likey NTR" community never cease to amaze with their - ehm - interesting rhetoric: you like what you like and you dislike what you dislike. Same as with music or food. NTR is just a big turn off for me, just like Marmite or Beyoncé. (There, I said it.) At the same time, my favorite band is virtually unknown and my favorite food incites revulsion in many people. I cannot understand it why they don't like it, yet here we are.

We're not, really. You buy a movie or game or show because you want to see what they made.

If all they make is what you wrote in a rant or fanfiction the year before, then you're not 'getting' anything special.

After reading the last couple of pages I finally went back and played the NTR cage version of week 3 to flesh out my understanding of the story. That was pretty disturbing. I can't help but sit here and wrack my brain to figure out whats really going on, because if this isn't a red hearing then the entire plot is falling apart at the end, and that sucks.

What's most annoying to me right now with the story, albeit "annoying" in a somewhat good way (as of now, depends on the continuation) is how hard it is to combine both parts to an ending that makes sense in both. I certainly agree that in the LC path, Lydia is probably not the mastermind - but how does that gel with what we learn about her in the NTR part? So I am curious about what Vinovella has in store for us.

Yep, totally agreed, it's hard to reconcile.

Like, I just hope that she really does have major emotional issues with sex and all of her handwringing about losing herself if she got the big D were well founded, and that she's been manipulated by Pete or just made a real bad life choice since she's unequipped to handle it (mentally) The first makes her a victim(...ish) and the latter makes her Toxic AF... but not evil. It's still extremely rough, I guess thats what at least SOME of the NTR crowd are looking for, and FL is, if nothing else, out to satisfy those fetish check-boxes.

We'll see I guess!

Great write-up. You articulated basically every avenue I've been thinking along.

One thing I'm really not clear on with this game is what the story branch 'means'– that is to say I assumed from the way it was presented that the "NTR path" was the real, uncensored story (like an I-patch) whereas the "LC" was a censored/modified version of the story.

But as you point out, the NTR content doesn't feel grounded, more like a bonus scene for people into that stuff. So it it actually that "LC" is the storyline as written and "NTR" is the landlady version?

That is an interesting question, when I think it through the other way, I realize that the main trigger for the NTR scene is actually very subtle; the conversation about Blackmail is mostly the same except in the LC version they just sort of gloss over the actual reason (ie: it doesn't matter anymore) whereas on the NTR version Lydia seizes on what the MC says and they have the argument. Otherwise its pretty much identical all the way, with the only other difference being the scene that happens when you open the door. She's either yelling at the screen or getting destroyed by Pete, all other story beats can be identical.

We're still left with the question of is the NTR canon? If so, why would she freak out on the MC about blackmail. Sure she could be acting, but how does the argument help her cause? Seems like she'd want to keep the MC on the hook. So it makes me once again lean towards her not being the mastermind and the argument driving her off the rails (and in the LC version her love driving her to dive in and help)

So I almost have myself convinced that the paths DON'T branch and the NTR choice is just some very emotional flavor (with effects on the MC/Lydia relationship outcome of course) So basically, you can choose "your" Lydia and keep it within the story.

I guess it works if she is the mastermind too, if you can ignore the weirdness of the blackmail blowup. But in that case she's already pretty heinous so I dunno that it matters too much.

In the end I guess there's three Lydia:

True Blue Lydia (LC + not involved)
Toxic Lydia (NTR + not involved)
Evil Lydia (Mastermind with or without NTR seasoning

So many questions. I hope the answer is half as interesting.

Rushed endings and missing tags tell me a story. Someone donated privately to have their scrotum scratched by the dev. The writing goes into outright Maximum Overdrive levels of bad. The scenes are nowhere near as good as previous ones. I could make a list but I won't. This went from a solid game to a meh one real quick.

I see people complaining about NTR. I'll address my feelings on it and why I'm against about 95% of all NTR I've encountered thus far. Good NTR makes sense and tends to be written in from the beginning. Bad NTR is just suddenly thrust in there. What makes NTR so distinct it gets it's own tag and isn't counted under the cheating tag?

I would have to bring up other games as examples to explain that in the best possible way, I won't do that but in essence it's something you both cause with your own actions, or lack thereof, as well as see coming from miles away. The dread of knowing that your relationship is failing because of you is what makes it hit hard. NTR however makes you look inside and ask very hard questions, "Where did we go wrong? What parts were my fault?"...etc. NTR does not require the breaking of character either. Someone who is faithful can easily tell you they fell in love with someone else and leave before even getting physical with another person. NTR does not automatically include cheating.

Two cases for those interested in learning proper NTR writing to read here.

1. My childhood sort of friend has recently started calling me. She used to have a major crush and I was her first kiss, something she keeps mentioning to everyone. She has done nothing with me at all yet but has indicated interest in me. I can clearly tell that if I reciprocate it will begin her movements to divorce her husband. This is definitely NTR as I would be stealing his LI. However note how she is not cheating.

2. My friend who shall now go by Mike is still called by a remorseful ex who cannot get over him. He already has another girlfriend but his ex keeps begging him to take her back. She was just using other guys to get off but did not love them. Mind you she still was down to clown with Mike the whole time. This was not NTR, it was just cheating. She was never stolen, Mike's new LI technically NTR'd her. In other words her actions caused him to fall out of love and look for someone else while she still cannot let go but has effectively had him stolen away by another.

But this brings up a final question? Why does NTR always include cheating? It doesn't. At least not the stuff from outside a certain culture. The very same eastern culture that places way to much power in sex. It's gotten to the point where the males in that culture can barely talk to women. I'm talking about Japan. Unless people think like the Japanese they won't find the vast majority of NTR good because it will be based around cheating as the catalyst. Japan has a weird cultural quirk that sex somehow transforms women in their porn making them the slave of the man they are doing it with. Thus this is used as the catalyst. In other cultures that do not have penis parades however you can easily see that case 1 is the more commonly held belief. Also it's the most realistic. Japan is known to go to extremes because of it's weird censorship laws that made them start with weird stuff for porn. So NTR is going to be influenced heavily by Japanese standards because that's the primary culture that makes it the most. But just think back a ways. Before anime and hentai became more popular and well known how many live actor porn vids had a husband or wife come home and get angry when seeing an affair? There are some to be sure. NTR is not limited to Japan, clearly. But because it's the mainstream for most people in the VN business it's sadly going to be the 95%. The first dev to bother doing some research and not going for Japanese style NTR made a well loved game despite the NTR in it. He went for the more realistic and non Japanese approach of dicks not brainwashing women.

Not an Android expert but the game states when you need to save.

I keep seeing these games with animations stretching longer than they should. Such as this one in the latest update (wk3 2.4.6). The original clip was about 9s long at 3mb WEBM (12mb in MP4).

I did a quick and dirty edit and brought down the duration of the original ciip to about 2 seconds. Note that this version has a 0.5s pause at the beginning and the end. Which could be replaced with a static image at either end using code. I added the pause to show how this could look in-game. The original file was edited from the file "d18s07-a1-4x-40fps.webm". I converted the edit into GIF, because F95zone did not allow WEBM or MP4.

If the author's graphics guy does shorter animations, the file size could be brought down quite a bit. I know compressing the graphic assets helps. But check out the visual impact of the edited version compared to the original. Same could be said for the rest of the videos. Including the sex scenes. If he can't animate an effective motion. Use cuts in video editing to fake it. It would have similar visual impact.

Edit: Not to mention; quicker animations = less frames to render. Time is money!

I love this game and story. But downloading a large file every time is such a pain. Not to mention the space I need on my mac.

I come back to this game after a while and after what I read about Lydia and 'ntr'.. I didn't expect it. Damn.

Although as for Lydia.. somehow, from the beginning, it seemed to me that she could not be completely trusted. Idk.

Gotta say though: the last update, especially on the LC path, made me think more and more she is a red herring or false flag. Bit harder to make work on the NTR path, but still - it is too obvious and I do think Vinovella have another twist in their quiver.
