I completely agree with what you wrote here. But I was referring to BEFORE she told him about Klaus. I request that you reread the entire paragraph. At the time I wrote it, I thought I was clear about the before- and after-the-revelation concerns (or lack thereof) of the MC. No, as of the end of the episode, the MC is taking NOTHING in stride. He's as confused and upset as is humanly possible. Not really... He hasn't taken anything in stride... He's mad enough to go vist the teacher my guy... That ain't taking it in stride...
Although I don't expect you to reveal what you know, could you at least hint at the source of your new-found optimism? For instance, are you on a first-name basis with the developer? Or perhaps you're an NSA hacker?So...if one really wants it at least some of the future is knowable. No, I'm not going to point to the spoilers, and please don't ask. Nor will I repeat them here. But I'm a lot more confident about the future than I was. This is going to be fine. Eventually.
When in the Army, I happened to have some contact with NSA workers. I'm not exactly quaking in my boots over any visit by their ilk. Eaves droppers and code breakers are not usually physical threats.Everything you want to know is available via the original post.
Also, my colleagues in the NSA will be visiting your house later. Put that thing away. No, not that...yes, that thing. Thank you.
That's your average shit test, you can only win by not playing. And so far it looks like like a perfect setup for a situation there whatever MC does - he will be in a wrong. If he is aggressive about this, she will pin him for not caring about her thoughts and wishes, if he considering and forgiving - that's just means that he is not ready to protect her if something happens. The question is - why does she need to do this.
The only point I would make is that when characters (like Haley and the MC) are so fully developed, it is not by coincidence. A good VN-game developer (like a good novelist), while wanting to tell a story, must immerse him/herself into the characters to tell that story properly. Motivations must be considered, in order for the characters, and ultimately the story, to be believable. I am convinced that the developers of this game have done their homework on this aspect of their game. When I first stumbled upon this site I tried games and if I liked it I played, if I did not I did not. There came a time that I found a game that I really liked. It changed the way I view these games in general and they way I played them. The game took a turn that I really did not like (along with many other players) and I posted my first message. It changed nothing the game continued along the path that the author (as it should) regardless of what the majority seemed to think. That developer is very successful.
Afterwards, my posts tended to point out my opinion on what specific developers (developers who talked about their money goals) could do to make their games appeal to a wider audience. However on the day this update was posted, I had exchanged several posts in a forum for a game that contained rape but did not have a rape tag. After that ordeal (the developer actually claimed that telling a mother that if you do not have sex with me then I will hurt your daughter did not constitute rape) I thanked God that there was a HALEY"S STORY update. Imagine my disappointment to find that the author had made Haley a victim of rape, statutory, but still rape.
Now we are all in an uproar over this update. Posts flying from those that hate, those that love, those that are somewhere in between. All these posters (including me) speculating on Haley's motivations. One poster suggesting that Haley must be crazy look at the way she pushed MC toward these other women. If we wanted we could come up for possible motivations for Haley to push her brother toward other women. Maybe she was afraid of her feelings and felt if her brother was involved with someone else, they would stay off this incestuous path that would be doomed from the start and could only result in driving them apart forever. But the truth is it's a porn game (and at least up to this point a really good porn game,) so the developer had only two choices: introduce other women for MC to have sex with or move the Haley relationship much faster. Actually, are there any such games where the MC only has the option to have sex with one character? To have sex scenes available from the start of the game MC had to either cheat on Haley or Haley be aware of it.
My point is we are spending all this time debating why the characters are doing what they are doing. I am sure when Viitgames was creating this update he wasn't sitting there thinking, "now what would Haley do in this situation." He has a story in mind Haley's actions are what are required to drive that narrative. She's not a real person. Viitgames made these decisions not Haley. Maybe he went this direction because he thought it would be funny to piss a bunch of people off. Maybe he's reading these posts and laughing his ass off. Maybe he did it because he knew it cause a storm of comments which would draw attention to his story and generate more income. Maybe it's just the story he wants to tell. He hasn't responded to any of the posts here, he does to seem to comment to posts on his Patreon page. Perhaps that's the only sane thing to do. Create your story, collect your money, ignore all comments. The next update will come. Some of us will hate it and we will leave the game. Some of us will love it and some of us will just live with it. I just had to take a step back and ask myself why I was so invested in this. It's just a game.
He had the thousand-yard stare the whole time. So, I decided to play this again from the start and I realized that Haley is the instigator. She’s the one that seduces the MC and not the other way around. From the very beginning she pushes the boundaries little by little while never crossing them (with the exception of the last update). Meanwhile gauging the MCs reaction to see whether to take it further. Man, the MC never stood a chance. Lucky bastard
I was drawn in as well. I have several posts regarding this update. But it seems like some players have they themselves been hurt by this update. I can't believe Haley did this to me. Just step back and remember it's a game. The endless speculation of why she did what she did. Ultimately she did what she did to move the story in the direction the author wanted it to go. We may not like that direction, but it's done. I don't think that the developer is so concerned with trying determine what Haley would do as can I rationalize Haley following this course of action. The story is already planned; so it's a matter of trying to get the motivations to match the story and not the other way around. The author chose this to happen at the age of 15 because he knew the reaction it would get from the audience. If Haley had been 18 and Mr. Klaus had been her teacher, it still would have been wrong but would not have had the emotional impact that it had. I'm just changing the conversation from one of Haley's motivations to one of Viitgames' motivations. The only point I would make is that when characters (like Haley and the MC) are so fully developed, it is not by coincidence. A good VN-game developer (like a good novelist), while wanting to tell a story, must immerse him/herself into the characters to tell that story properly. At least what they have done with our hero and heroine has worked for me.
Obviously, others have strenuously disagreed. But, that's often just a difference of opinion in what they want out of this game; what they think the story should be. So....
