The kinda problem you have with monthly content, and then some creators that excel more at it due to reasons such as full time vs part time etc. People start take it as the norm, and then creators who can't keep up with this rat race start get flak for it. People compare apples with oranges and call it fruit regardless. From a player/readers view its annoying to keep wait for new updates and content, but that is just how it is with these kinda games. Unless want to wait until they completed and do the full experience.
Having 5 pages of watched threads, 98% or so of which are games that are in development, I see a lot the "small" monthly update thing. I imagine a lot of the people complaining here don't play very many of these games, haven't been playing this particular game for very long, and/or don't know that this is common; that this is the norm, not the exception, and not just for this game but for most of these kinds of games out there.
Some of the sandbox-style, grindy games may seem like they have more content, but usually they have as much or less, it just takes more time to get to the content, so it seems like it's longer because of the extra padding of the grind, or waiting til certain times of day in-game for the content to show up, or meeting whatever other condition needs to be met before actual content appears.
I'm constantly finding new games to try, so I'm never really hurting for new content to consume here, either, so I don't see the point of complaining. I see a new update, I grab it, I play it, it's usually good, and then I make a save and wait for the story to continue, and I play other stuff in the meantime, so I don't really get the complaining. If short updates bother people, I suppose they should either deal with it or find something else to do with their time.
On the bright side: if what people are complaining about is how short the update is and not that the content within was bad, I would take that as a win. XD
