BoyBox The translation is very bad , sometimes you have symbol and no text , choice are in jap
i love this game but i want to read the story , i will wait for a translation (Probability for better translation 0.0001%)
if you still waiting, you'd be better off at this point just using a text hooker like Luna Translate or Textractor. Luna can embed the translation though so it's like the game is translated. and if you happen to have a google cloud vision/translate api key use that for google translations and the translation is way better than the free google translate

Anyone got the files for just the UI translations I remember finding somewhere on a forum or something which files to copy over from the MTL patch for just the UI but I can't seem to find it again.

lol

coming from Amayui Castle Meister, and now downloading this (again) and today just wanted to see if it runs out of the box in windows 11 - yes it does (and thanks for the tip with the mem-leak-patch!) - and the first 5 test-minutes already SO! much better than Amayui, leave alone Kamidori ... and now could not stop going onwards ... :D

I know already from last time the translation will drop off later, but I don't care that much.

any idea if someone still working on this, translation or fixes/improvements? wanna play it all again but i don't want to be bothered with the hassle of untranslated stuff, crashes and memory leaks.

I've started working on translating it. Slowly. Very slowly, just when I have some free time.

I was one of the people who helped with the existing translation (The early parts that are manually translated). My Japanese is and was only so-so, and having no truly fluent translator was one reason the project was abandoned. But coming back to it after some years, I feel bad seeing it was left in it's current state. Given enough time I should be able to make it playable with a reasonable (but maybe not perfect) translation.

Wait, what? They've gotten to the point the translators can inject the text directly now instead of having separate windows? (I haven't use a text hooker in... over a decade, nearly two.)

only with some games, some games doing it will break them or the text just doesn't display well, like it'll run off screen. if it's a unity game there's the Xunity auto translator that is pretty much able to embed the translations even for most UI elements for any unity game combined that with the Universal Unity Demosaics using BepInEx5 both made by same person and adult unity games become alot more enjoyable. I'd definatly suggest taking a look at if you've not used a text hooker for that long they've come a long way specifically this one. the guy working on it has been putting a lot of work into it in the last year it's gone from being a simple text hooker to something that now supports using LLMs and ai for translation, both online and offline translators, and ocr translation which I use to read untranslated manga cause it supports vertical text. it's embeded translation works quite well for most games I've used it with. and if you happen to encounter a game where it's not able to find the text, so long as it's actually a visual novel can make an issue on the github which there's a button in it's UI that links straight to the page and he'll likely have it working for that game by the next day and push out the update with the fix.

Could somebody tell me please how good/bad is current English translation? I would like to play this game but don't know if I should wait for a proper English patch?

tl;dr

I wanted to play the game and it doesn't seem like a full translation is coming anytime soon so I ran all of the text through DeepL. Formatting is off, some pronouns are off, but at least the story is understandable and the game is playable. I hope one day we'll be able to have a human translation, but for now I hope this will tie us over. Just import View attachment DeepL English Patch.rar into the Himegari folder and it should all work.

Disclaimers:
  1. I don't speak any Japanese, at all. There will likely be nuances missing from the DeepL translations since they're run sentence by sentence, not with whole files/paragraphs. I was also unable to really proofread the results as again, I don't speak any Japanese.
  2. I have not played Himegari before. I did this because I wanted to play it.
  3. I ran into some Shift JIS encoding issues pretty late into the process... This resulted in extra fun trying to get the encoding to work. You may see some weird characters every now and then, that's probably because I missed some special characters when I tried to fix it.
  4. I am midway through Chapter 2. Things seem to be working as expected, but I haven't unlocked every scene or dialogue to know if things are really working correctly. Edit: I am now in chapter 5. I have also tested the gallery with a 100% save and the translation works there.
  5. I do not plan on supporting this long term. Putting this together took longer than I expected. My main goal was to be able to play the game and I thought I'd share the results here.
  6. This is my first "translation". I have not done something similar, though I have some background in tech.

My Impression so far:

It's similar to Kamidori and Amayui castle meister, though the combat is slightly different, the tone is different, and the characters aren't as fleshed out as the other titles. Rather than base building, you do crafting, upgrades, etc. in between each battle. Just from looking at the volume of translated text, my gut is that it will be a good deal shorter than the other titles. Combat is also more about summoning monsters and controlling those rather than controlling and upgrading individual hero units. Not sure if that's my cup of tea yet, but I do like the tone of it and playing the evil guy a bit more.

A little on the process:

If you're interested in making updates or changes to the translations, here is the process I followed to create them.
  1. I took the Japanese ISO of Himegari from Archive.org (I ran into some decompiling issues with the english version)
  2. Unpacked the Data1 ALF file into separate files
  3. Decompiled the BIN files from the Data1 ALF file to .RTF files.
  4. Translated each .RTF file with the following process
    1. Parsed the .RTF file into separate Japanese sentences. Anything that was in " " was included.
    2. Took each of those sentences and ran it through DeepLs browser translation using automated mouse movement and keystrokes. I did not use the API as I would go above the 50k character limits. With the browser version I could swap VPNs and translate further.
    3. Create a mapping of Japanese -> English translations in a separate file.
    4. Did VERY minor proofreading of the translations in that file (pronouns, names, genders)
    5. Used another script to replace the Japanese sentences in the .RTF file using those key-value pairs.
    6. Recompiled the RTF file back into BIN file.
    7. Repeat for the other 300 or so files.
If you want to make changes, you'd have to
  1. Decompile the bin files
  2. Find the text you want to change
  3. Edit the text
  4. Recompile the bin files
The Eushully translation discord has a lot of folks who have done translations before, so if you're interested in some more fine tuning, reach out there.

Enjoy!

I am still working on my own translation, and it's halfway done. But it's still at minimum 4 months away. If you don't want to wait (and I make no promises about quality or timing of the finished patch) or want to try the straight machine translation above, here's a little gift. The images for menu items with more of the terms translated. It's such a pain to edit them that I'm probably not going to touch them further anyway. Just extract into the game folder.

-Does not translate all menu labels, just a few more than before: The New Game Plus options, the tutorial popup, the unit selection Ready/Done, Mecha was corrected to Spirit, the level end reward page, the selections for skipping text/hiding the window, the configuration option, the labels for Drop, the labels for Move/Attack that appear on every square were just removed because I hate them, and a couple more changes I'm sure I've forgotten. More is still untranslated, but like I said, editing these is a pain.
