Seeing as how the Family Edition was the original and is posted and maintained by Ink, I'd say it's a safe bet that it's canon. But, Standard exists for those who don't like that interpretation. There's no shame in preferring one over the other.
Nah Ink doesn't really set release dates. In my experience he just drops surprise goodness. My fingers are crossed for a Christmas present but I also don't expect anything.
