VN Ren'Py Abandoned Kindread: The Redburns [Ch. 5] [Inkalicious]

OK time to give this a try... Note my opinions are opinions and not everyone will agree with me and that's ok.

• First off Love the concept, apocalypse as a setting where the supernatural are not sexual.
• Also I LOVE that fact that there are different body sizes for the mother and daughter.
• Saying that, the size of the daughters tits change sizes... Sometimes they are medium sized others they are HUGE.
• Player named character. A warning sign of a generic, blank, hallow, shallow character.
• Faceless main character. A warning sign of a generic, blank, hallow, shallow character. So people can imagine themselves as the character, While that isn't bad... I personally do not enjoy it.
• So the plot is trying to give the main character some flavor, but the flavor is of a perv. While that isn't wrong, I personally don't like role playing an arrogant, pervy, and stupid character. Ohh and add pathetic to the list.
• The writing seems to be proper grammar and syntax. Nice Job.
• Saying that, the writing feels juvenile to me. Like this game is targeted at young boys who have never really interacted with women. Personally I like women to act like women... Same goes for the main character who doesn't act like a man either.
• There feels like a lack of player agency. This feels like a story and not a game.
• So the incest patch is that you are their brother/son. The writing for this doesn't feel natural. Mom wouldn't act like that to her son, sister wouldn't act that way to her brother. The son would act that way to either of them as well.
• If the incest patch isnt installed, then the mom doesn't make any sense. If you are just a random dude boy that are grouping with them, then the usage of guilt wouldn't really mean as much. Also it treats you as a family, so without the patch this goes from dumb, to confusing and inconsistent.
• 3 frame animations are disappointing. Use more stills or make fluid animations, but not cheap 3 frame animations.
• Huge dick is see as worship worthy. You only see this in porn. Talk to a man with a huge dick, or a women who has taken one... I guess this is a porn game, but it's one thing to have exaggerated tits/dick and another to worship them in dialogue.

I don't want to be mean to the creator, but I'm disappointed. This is not a game, this is basically an almost linear visual novel. We dont get to choose anything. What happens If I don't want to fuck my mom... or my sisters? To bad, you HAVE to. Your actions have no consequences since you end up at the same spot no matter what you pick. Play good girl gone bad, and see how this type of game should be. Player chooses to be a creep or not. Player chooses who to fuck knowing that it will piss off the other person. Also the incest is not done well. There is no fixing this games problems anymore.



I can see people loving this game, but to me 2.5/5 which I will round up to a 3. Only play if you like incest and you don't mind people acting out of character.

Lol. I always love it, when people complain about not wanting to fuck certain characters, when the game is ABOUT fucking exactly those characters.
Not every game has routes, regarding which characters you pursue. Some have you pursue all, some just one, with no option for others and the decisions just influence how well you do that or how you approach it, like in this game, where you can decide HOW to treat your family and that decides how a scene plays out.

Basically if you play a shooter, would you write a negative review, because you like strategy games more?
It's the same here, this is a game set in a Zombie apocalypse where a guy starts a sexual relationship with his family, giving the game less points due to that makes no sense.

As for out of character. I guess we will only know if this is out of character, when we have a Zombie Apocalypse and people start living with just three or four people, almost never meeting others who aren't enemies, mad men or zombies.

The way I figure it, it's sort of like sex in prison, lots of people who aren't gay have gay sex in prison, because there's no other option (and not even talking rape here), same in cloisters with nuns and monks.
People will always have sex, especially hormone driven youths.
Sure developing this kind of relationship so fast is forced, but that is because games would be boring otherwise, if everything took ages.

Also, you do realize there is incest in real live, so if this stuff does actually happen, how can you just generally state it is out of character?

Is there something I'm missing inkalicious ? I mean, there are a few scenes that are given without context and the "before" text comes and we start in a prior point in the story. But we never get to see those scenes. Are they exclusive or something?

I don't really feel the flashes to/from the future really work the way that they're being used. It's not really adding anything and is rather jarring to the flow (they feel rather unnecessary). I get the feeling the dev has been influenced by "The Walking Dead", as I believe they employed the whole flashback thing quite frequently back when I watched it (but it worked, as it was related to the episode and you saw the whole episode in one sitting).

Maybe it would work better if I were playing per chapter rather than per update, but at this point, I can't even remember if the flashes are actually relevant at all to the chapter that they appear in (they certainly don't feel relevant to the part in which they appear).


Overall I like this VN and what I mentioned above is the only real negative that I can think of.

Think Breaking Bad. The weird foreboding opening shots. They're not the inspiration, but close to what I'm trying out.
One flash forward at the start of each Chapter. That's it.

Ok, I feel like this post is not gonna get a lot of support so I'll say I don't disagree with some of those points. In fact, I was thinking some things really made the game more depressing than hot at times, when I played the earlier version.

However, there are romance bits and I think the game can have some form of happy ending. Even if the main character is sort of unlikable. Or was, I'm waiting to know if the game gets "happier" or unfortunately it will be too upsetting to me. I also agree that non incest doesn't make a lot of sense.

Everything else I sort of don't agree though. I think the game's well written, interesting characters. Pretty hot scenes (even if the context isn't always ideal). The rest I either think is a good thing to me or don't mind. Can't really blame you, I guess I would prefer more choices over who I fuck and how nice/mean to them I can be. I don't think it makes the game bad though.

I honestly think this is a very good game, just not what I'm personally looking for, maybe. Hoping I find out I'm wrong eventually though. Still keeping it on my radar.

Honey Select and not animated?

I don't feel the existing animation options work in the ways i'd like. And I don't have time to fumble around doing my own animations. And there's a lot of subtle Photoshop editing to add details I think are needed sometimes (e.g. the skin moving around the anus as the penis hammers it mercilessly.)

Thanks for the thought-out message and while I don't agree with a lot here, I'd like to respond. I've also answered a lot of the points elsewhere in this thread, so while I don't expect you to read the last 30+ pages, I'll condense my selected responses here.

• Tit-size: It's been raised before, but the best I can say is that there's one HS model and viewing angles may be a factor. However, the likely culprit is the HS clothing items. Nothing I can do about that.
• MC's character / Juvenile writing: You are playing an opportunistic young guy who is dealing with two strong females and the inner monologue and perceptions reflect this. However, there are dialogue and image cues that you, as the player, are seeing that the MC isn't picking up on. Some of these should help you decide when it might affect a choice.
• Lack of player agency: This is down to my glacial release schedule. Originally we were meant to be at this stage within a few chapters, but I've had to split then into smaller chunks. So the first few chapters are slow burn on decisions and impact. There are many posts about this in the thread, but your choices do matter.
• Non-incest storyline: You really really need to view this in the context of the constant danger and death that surrounds their every waking moment. They're a group that seem to have a past, but are now are working as a successful unit, and have been for years. Tampering with their formula may mean death for all of them. And they love each other, but were struggling with the MC's actions and how to deal with it.
• Dick worship: No-one is worshipping his big dick. Megan has made one comment on it, while drunk, and otherwise she is saying absolutely anything to get him off faster. Meanwhile Sam is just happy to get dick. I'm not ruling it out. It's porn chat in a porn game, but it's just not happening right now.
• Linear game / relationship paths: As I said choices do matter, but this is a porn game. All the woman are available to have sex with. If I started producing paths for not having sex with female characters, I'd have incels either cheering it or denouncing it.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything, as I feel you've left as a player of this VN, but hopefully i've explained a few points that others may have had questions about.

So we disagree that's fine. Responding to your main points.

1. "Not every game has routes." That is not a game, that is a visual novel. While there are a few choices, in the end they don't matter, which makes this not a game. Note, visual novels are awesome but people deserve to know if it truly is interactive or not. Note that is subjective so I get if you say this is interactive.
2. "Basically if you play a shooter, would you write a negative review" Yes I would, if the game lacked strategy I would say this shooter would be better with some strategy. This game would be better if it, had game play, made sense, better animations, branching story lines and such... I literally wrote a review telling people about the issues I had with this game, so others who read my review can get insight. I especially hope the creator views my points because I want him to succeed. I think the game creator has talent, just he needs someone to help edit his story.
3. "As for out of character. I guess we will only know if this is out of character," Ummm, I am not trying to be insulting but no one in the planet would act this way. The zombie apocalypse part is an analogy for living under stress in a lawless area. Maybe you don't care that the characters act silly and immature for their age but personally I do and I am letting other people know. If it doesn't matter to you, then you can say to yourself, this dude takes shit to seriously and move on.

If you say you are straight and are willingly having sex with dudes and it gives you pleasure, then you are bisexual that has a preference for the opposite sex, or are a closeted homosexual. I think your point is supposed to be about incest and how a lack of options would leave to incest, and I didn't say incest can't be written to be to make sense. I am just saying the incest in THIS game doesn't make sense to me.

I fundamentally disagree with your premise. That is like saying since cannibals exist, I am going to write a story about a Tibetan monks who cook people and serve human flesh for the entire order. Tibetan monks almost always are vegetarian because of the philosophy of nonviolence, and it would be out of character for them to eat human flesh because it contradicts elements in their beliefs, let alone feed it to others too. This VN has the characters do things that contradicts how they would act.

Hopefully you understand my opinions. I am not saying you are dumb for enjoying this, because I'm not. We just have different preferences, I just ask you let people express their opinions.

an wonderful update, thanks and good fucking job!

Mom's scenes have always an unique atmosphere that i really like, and damn, the motorboat caught me off guard

No what I mean are the images themselves seem a bit more pastel coloured and less sharp in this update. No the story is good.
