The only thing I'll add is that Monsinne seems like a rather slow writer: (I wrote mildly successful erotica for a few years) granted you need to get in the mood, but 10k a day shouldn't be an issue (that said I have no experience writing *for a game*).
Only mentioning this as Monsinne brought it up themselves.

I'd be more interested in the story staying with the same writer than the artist given it's already changed from how it once was.

You know, I'll kinda miss checking this occasionally, KoD was one of the reasons I registered here after all.
It's been clearly curtains for longer than 2022, after Sierra left and the writing got schizophrenic it was a constant descent. Monsinne never was a good writer (of smut or of anything) and while I can't condemn him for not writing good orc-themed porn I can condemn him for failing to tell the truth for more than a year and keep miking what he could as long as he could.
Nomo probably just burned out, this project is ancient by WEG standards and comparing it to Sierra's output (she released multiple successful games and got to the endphase of her major project) must have been even more demoralizing.
There's no dishonour in defeat, there's dishonour in milking patreons, hiding the truth and trying to kick the can as far along the road as you can.

Edit: My personal fav is Once Ever After. Even without the lewd stuff it is still a really good game with a really good story.
What a shock, what has been pretty much assumed as true for the last couple of years was actually true.
genuinely kinda bummed, KOD was one of the great potential ones, even its early stuff was great and i wasnt even a hater of the later stuff, but being honest this shouldve died about 2 years ago
Thank you for sharing AlienBreeder. To be fair, at this point, I'm just glad to know it's finally over. It will free so many people, myself included. Who knows? maybe one day Nomo & Sierra will collaborate once more on another project, everything is possible.

I'm pretty sure the split was not amicable. I doubt Sierra would work with Nomo again even if they did come back, and has proven she doesn't need to.

It's a consequence of going into something that is mostly a hobby with little-to-no obligation and then opening yourself up to feeling very obligated when you realize people are giving you the equivalent of a 5-6 figure salary. Most of them weren't planning for it, and a lot of the ones that do plan for it actually cut and run when they realize they need to put out something consistently. Even the successful ones often start developing problems because most self employed people have a hard time "logging out" and end up burning out in the other direction.It scares me how they write about their mental problems all the time.
Are there any healthy developers of such games? Or is this the lot of people in a pre-suicidal state?

Ngl, Monsinne earned a sliiiiiiiight bit of respect from me here. Not for finally "coming clean", for all we know its all lies again and Nomo is actually just held hostage in his basement.
But moreso for the fact that he admitted that "Nobody here really cares about what i'm writing, its Nomos art", which honsetly in my case is pretty true. The orcs could all talk like "me orc, me fuck you now", even the smartest ones and I wouldn't mind as long as the art stays good. And aslong as Nomo doesn't return, nothing will refire the project.
But overall, honestly, if what Monsinne said here is true for the most part, I can't really fault him that much. Sure he could've said everything sooner, but again if true that Nomo also doesn't talk to him, he was never really in a spot to say "Yo Nomo is gone." if for all he knew he could return any day.
He could've said that he's been doing the filler art stuff because Nomo hasn't responded in a long time, but other than that honestly I can't blame him that much.

I really think that if they communicated like this since the beginning, then the game would be in a much better state now.
Either way, i have a bit more thoughts about this than i care to collect at the moment, so here are some of them for anyone who is interested:
1. This was an open secret. I mean, even here in this thread without any direct communication with the devs we all pieced it together. So basically nothing changed.
The only news we didn't know for sure is Nomo breaking communication even with the other devs. It was likely, but not 100%.
2. Monsinne says that he is a slow writer. That has never been the issue. Nomo is a slow artist as well so they could have focused on the slow and steady style, but instead we always got the "next update will be faster" message and delays.
3. Continuing the project with another artist is not necessarily out of question for me personally. Nomo is incredibly good, but the internet is big and there are certainly artists out there who could do a good job. The main problem for me is how the game would still need someone to coordinate the team, someone who can communicate with the fans properly and if i'm being frank, almost certainly a new narrative lead as well who can look at the whole mess and find a way out of it.
4. In the off chance, Monsinne reads this: man, this is how to communicate. You are not a big corp, trying to please the press and the shareholders, you are a small dev team. If this was how the patreon posts had been written since the beginning, then you wouldn't have gotten half the flack you did from this thread.

Honestly, it was not just art, but writing of Sierra that made this game so special. There is a lot of games with decent art... but interesting plot, characters that you actually care about, and lewd? Oh boy.
Like, how many lewd fantasy games there is with fallen from grace noble lady, using her wits in mysoginistic environment to rise again to power and gain her revenge and take everything that hers back, and all this premise with fantastic writing and art? God, I miss time of fisrt updates...
I know that this game was brain-dead for a long time, but still I checked from time to time. Its so sad, so many fantastic games died, this one, detective necro... sigh...
