I'm a bit late, but happy new year everybody !

Holidays are over for most of us. But the good news being that this project can go back at full-speed.

The very last sprite for the V0.1 is now being worked on, that's something that will soon join the "completed assets" section with backgrounds.

Two more original musics are also along the way. I will need another 3 after that to have my OST completed too. I think that's something that should be achieved around April.

The slowest part is still getting CGs done but that's something that will get better soon.
The reason being that :

1) I can't overspend on this game as I don't plan to ruin myself on it.
2) The main artist working on those CGs have to attend some events during specifics time of the year, which mean I'm unable to commission him at the time.

I'm thinking about adding a back-up artist to this project to solve this 2nd problem. It probably won't be too hard since my main artist has a friend that have a very similar artstyle. I already reached him and it seems like it would work well.

On a side note, I'm considering doing a french translation of my game in order to both have an english and french release for the V0.1

It involves a lot of work, so I'm still unsure about that.

Sorry, no appetizer this time to go along the wall of text.

Hello people !

It's time for another progress report. A lot of tings have been accomplished since my last post.

1) Character sprites are now all finished for the V0.1 . One more thing done !

Oshitari Azumi Mandatory white suit character. :)
Hoomaru Rei clothed serious.png

2) I reworked my gallery system in order to display every CGs and not only the sexy ones.

3) I switched a lot of old sound effects that were not the best choices. I'm still unsure about sex-related sound effects. I don't know if I should try to commission a VA for that.

4) Music production is going smooth. Meisla produced a combat theme for me. you can check it on her soundcloud :

I still have a big concern about themes used during sex scenes. I think it will be done last, as it's not really easy to think about something that could contribute to the atmosphere of the scene without being too intrusive or without falling into a cliché.

5) Art production is going well.

progress report
I'd tell you not to overthink the audio details for now (you can change that later in Ren'py, just use a placeholder music) but I'm biased as I'm deaf. Still, that should work fine as long as you keep track of it in your workflow.

Excellent job with 1) and 2). Watch out for 3) as usual, you'll want to keep the VA decision for last unless you absolutely want your game to be voiced.

Also, that sketch is awesome. Can't wait to see it finished. (y)

I don't think the game will ever be voiced. By VA, I mean one that could make SFX during some specifying scenes like moanings during sex scenes or reacting to getting hit during fight scenes.

I already checked how much it cost to hire a VA and that's totally out of my reach.

I actually have some time to work on QoL, and games features, so I'm trying to find out which feature I could add to improve significantly my game.

I was thinking about adding a journal that let you check at any time a visual representation of the player current choices.

Thinking about showing it like a decision tree (here is Detroit become human as an example) detroit_become_human_the_hostage_flowchart_3840.jpg

Scenes that the player didn't pick yet would be simply blurred out to not spoil the story while still showing that there are some scenes to discover. I could also add some visual clues to guide the player, like adding a little yellow to show that a specific decision lead to discovering a new girl or a little pink heart to show that the player can unlock a new scene.

But I don't know if it's a good idea.

Oh, right, if it's just the basic SFX and moans, you could borrow free ones that sound decent for adult games (don't forget to credit them if you use them). I'm not sure if there's a CC-BY-SA library for such stuff on Lenma Soft forums but doesn't hurt to check if that's an option; can't exactly help with audio quality due to hearing issues so sorry about that.

About the story tree, that sounds like a good idea that's not too code-intensive. I'd be for it, a lot of VNs are missing this nifty feature. And as you said, it doesn't spoil anything so it's perfect for completionists or just players who want to check their progress that way.

Some indie VN/RPGs even have it as a scene recollection mode with "hints" for locations where there is stuff to unlock. :)

As long as it doesn't slow you down or burn you out, that's certainly something good you could put on paper for future use.

Yeah, It didn't need much time to implement it. Here is how it looks like. Need to remove the placeholder picture with the real one when they're done.

Looking good, nice job! Thanks for the scene thumbs as a bonus :D
Still need to polish it a bit. I'm not satisfied with the background image and I think that buttons are too close to the icons Legend.

I will also rewrite Girl with New Girl.

I discovered your game yesterday, in the Lesbian protagonist games thread.

The only thing I know about Kill la Kill is the main character and her sister, and basically thanks to hentai art xD, but reading what you've been explaining and seeing the art, the game seems very interesting to me ^^

I hope that you can make the game you want to make, I will definitely play it xD.

This thread is starting to gather quite a lot of people here. :giggle:

I even received PMs of people watching this project closely.

Even if everything seems to be going well until now. I just prefer people not too hype themselves too much since it's still my very first game project.

One of my goal is to make my own Kill-la-Kill side-story which could both please the fans of this specific fandom while not loosing people that have no clue about this universe.

This could be summarized as :
- Using Kill-la-Kill universe as a background for an original story
- Being respectful to the characters personalities while adding my own.
- Making the H-content working for the story and not the opposite.

At the end, I'm basically going for a "Daily college life" set-up, except that since it's KLK, the characters main concern is not "finding which college party should go next week" but more "trying to avoid jetting beaten by half the school while trying to save my friend, her family and the world."

Be careful with fans. Make sure you add a disclaimer so people don't start to go "this isn't KLK at all" or you don't start getting flak from the OTP/girlshipper crazies. Unless you want to be 100% faithful to the series of course, that's all up to you. I find it better to add the classic "everyone is 18/21 or older, derivative work, meant for fun, includes KLK elements but wouldn't happen in the series" and use it as a background indeed to be best for a long-term project.

As you said, since it's meant to be an original story, it's your usual derivative rule: the girls didn't and wouldn't do that in the series but there will probably be references to it for the fans as a bonus (things like a quiz, maybe). Neither myself or Mistress Elizabeth know much about KLK as we said lol, and you also said (I think?) you wanted your audience to be able to experience the game even without much KLK lore besides the stuff we all come across randomly. :)

You're pretty active and giving "progress" reports quite often (a big plus as a dev; it doesn't have to do "new stuff", literally just what you've been tinkering with, fixing and even snapshots of the Ren'py workflow can be interesting to fellow aspiring devs) but make sure you don't cater to everyone's whims. Keeping the game the way you originally wanted it to be while adding ideas you find interesting and consistent with the roadmap from your audience's output when you have time or hit a creative wall means it'll be better, smoother and faster to build (and then polish as necessary - you're already doing this).

Just looking at the prologue flowchart gave me a rough idea of how much time I'd spend playtesting so if you're worried about a lack of content or replayability, don't worry about it. Only nukige maniacs will attempt to breeze through your game by hitting skip and saving at every crossroads to unlock all scenes (this isn't your target audience - those people are here for the porn and give zero fucks about the dialogue heh). People who do care about the dialogue will be spending a lot of time on each scene carefully reading what was said again and again (and then replay the game to experience it differently).

Besides, most people playing RPG Maker and Ren'py games aren't even aware if all they want are pics, they literally only have to use Petsch's toolkit or Sam's UnRen (uses CensoredUsername's unrpyc+Shizmob's rpatool), drag the project folder or package files and that's it. Most projects don't even bother with RGSS or Ren'py obfuscation either since developers know no matter how hard Degica or PyTom try to obfuscate or even encrypt it'll still be instantly reversed.

But I digress. Trying to keep it short but failing as usual. Just make sure you're having fun while developing it. Keep it up!

I'm pretty optimistic about KLK fans not being an annoyance. I think the overview will be enough to make them understand what's the point of this game. The one I posted on this dev thread looks clear enough to me.

Regarding H-content, KLK is in a curious situation since it's a popular fandom (just look at the number of fanart), but at the same time very few people ever tried to make a fangame out of this fandom.

I think KLK fans will be really happy to find a new game as they're already starving.

What will be really annoying, and I 100 % know that it will happen, is the daily complaint I will see about :

- Most of the content being yuri only

- The lack of incest in a series which has two sisters as main characters.

If I don't have a single complaint about one of those things in the 10th first posts of the F95 thread of this game, then I will be truely surprised.

Yeah, I mean, it's F95. You get "is yuri avoidable" or "game sucks, no dicks/not enough dick" on 100% yuri threads. Don't focus too much on this, you'll end up autofiltering it as noise.

Ongoing games with regular reports have almost zero complaints or trolling regardless of the game as far as I could tell.

Wait, that implies no Ryuko x Satsuki scenes. Like, at all? Not gonna lie, I WOULD find that disappointing.
I'm not ruling it out of course, but my scenario set that it can't happen before the end of the game.
Knowing how problematic can incest be, I prefer to keep it low before actually reaching the end of the game.

That's a pretty tough situation.

Yeah, but I don't think it will become really problematic to start with an average Ryûko, especially since

Hello everybody.

Are there people here who are playing their games on Android ?

I'm questioning myself about doing an Android version of my game.
