Don't know if it is same problem, but when I had similar happen before it was because I had joystick plugged in. Quit the game, unplug the joystick, restart the game.
So why play this version when you could play https://f95zone.to/threads/lab-rats-2-reformulate-v2025-04.32881/ which continues the game and even fix some of the bugs.
Short answer: It's a matter of preference. The mod is bigger, yes. That's not always better
Long answer: I can't speak for everyone, but as for me, I don't like the tone and mechanics changes, scope overreach, new characters, and other changes the mod introduces with its too many cooks. And the bugs in this version have been identified and fixed long ago while new bugs are introduced in the mod practically hourly, making this the more stable version

Vren do you know why the sequel failed? because 1 the first one had good amount of gooning and 2 it had 4 mechanic. The sequel has the entire dna helix of mechanics ....

Vern is gone and we have not heard from the dev in over 3 years.

But more mechanics = better game. /s (FYI: pretty sure the modded version provides a lot of QoL improvements. But can't say for sure as I've got this on the "won't bother with till it's finished" list of abandoned games. Or what a1fox3 said. I should probably remove this one from my watchlist since I also have the other on there)
