Don't know if it is same problem, but when I had similar happen before it was because I had joystick plugged in. Quit the game, unplug the joystick, restart the game.

So why play this version when you could play https://f95zone.to/threads/lab-rats-2-reformulate-v2025-04.32881/ which continues the game and even fix some of the bugs.
Short answer: It's a matter of preference. The mod is bigger, yes. That's not always better
Long answer: I can't speak for everyone, but as for me, I don't like the tone and mechanics changes, scope overreach, new characters, and other changes the mod introduces with its too many cooks. And the bugs in this version have been identified and fixed long ago while new bugs are introduced in the mod practically hourly, making this the more stable version

Vren do you know why the sequel failed? because 1 the first one had good amount of gooning and 2 it had 4 mechanic. The sequel has the entire dna helix of mechanics ....

But more mechanics = better game. /s (FYI: pretty sure the modded version provides a lot of QoL improvements. But can't say for sure as I've got this on the "won't bother with till it's finished" list of abandoned games. Or what a1fox3 said. I should probably remove this one from my watchlist since I also have the other on there)

Patreon doesn't care. They get their % cut either way. "Fools and their money..." and all that.
TBH, the mechanics never bother me. It's not that hard to get a stable income in the base game (though the modded version makes things a little more complicated with diminishing returns)
What bothered me is that it's all still images and the character models look like shit. I wish there were more actual lines for the character to use. Most characters are basically identical in terms of what they say under similar circumstances.

In the new one, there's an included mod that uses local Stable Diffusion to create the images on the fly. It's amazing. Worth replaying just for images that are awesome

I didn't know that, thanks for mentioning it. I'll have a look at the new one.
Actually, I stopped playing much for the same reason, ie the visuals are not that good. While the strategy part of the game was actually quite good, I felt that even with Honey Select the images could have been better. Now that I know this mod exists, I'm intrigued to see how well it works.

Tbf i wasn't too impressed with the generated images - probably because the prompts are "just okay" in describing the character
+ it was annoying that they didn't autochange poses (for me at least)
+ it was a bundle with a whole lot of other mods
(on the plus side, the mod made me fiddle a bit with local image generating ai-stuff)
