this shouldn't be a problem in the first place, why make "snail crawl" the default? if there's a fast option it should be the default. Worst part? it still sucks, because while before i had trouble farming to level up, now they seem to show up double the time
It's the default because the quickest makes me feel slightly sick, the default speed is how I tested the game for all these years.
Some people may like the default, some may not, the important is offering customization options so that more people can fit their gaming experience to their personal taste. That's why it's important to check the settings of a game at least once.
The speed of the movement is not counted at all when calculating the chance for a monster to appear or not.
However, the game offers items (Monster Lure and Morbul) to manually alter those chances.
So if you want to increase your excelia, use Monster Lure. If you want to explore or traverse a floor without fighting, use a Morbul.
No? since when have the fights in the show used dice combat??? what, because it's a fantasy setting it means "dnd"? someone should've told tolkien. And about the companions... Probably? I don't get why Lilly gets a knife that just deals less damage, and upping her damage in general would be nice, but she's nice when she just joins because she can finish off the newer tougher enemies
The stat system (Ability scores and Excelia), the way they increase through actions, how they are updated and even the levelling system are all based on the source material. None of those mechanics exist in D&D.
What you refer by D&D is the usage of random numbers as a modifier to both hitting an opponent and its damage, but that's something used in pretty much any game.
I do not remember Lili getting a new knife, but while you can train her strength to upper her melee damage, she does much better with ranged attacks. Once the companions will be rebalanced, she will have higher chances to deal crit damage with her crossbow too.
yeah no shit, that's why i'm playing this game and not just watching the show. That doesn't mean the writing isn't just the show again. Speaking of, to add to the no H scenes, around the time Lilly joins you unlock the brothel.
It's called giving context.
The purpose of my parodies is giving the most accurate portrayal of the source material as possible (Within my understanding) so that both the story and the characters stay true to themselves, but with the chance to pick different routes.
Want to become more of a spellcaster? Pick a different option to have Riveria more interested in you (As opposed to Ais), have you decided to date Airmid? Then she will come during the Goliath's saga and the venom situation will be solved quicker.
There are even completely new stories integrated within, such as Artemis' one to make her part of the main cast.
Even within that custom story, there are different ways to handle it.
Sure, I could have made a "Brothel Owner" game and shove characters in it mindlessly fucking the protagonist, but I don't personally like that. Think of my games more of a fan fiction in game format.
I am a fan of the series I make parody games of, and the reason I make them is because while reading/watching them, I imagine "What if the protagonist answered differently... ?" or "What if the protagonist wasn't THAT shy and actually behaved like a normal human being?"
around the time Lilly joins you unlock the brothel. So the first proper H scenes... aren't with characters from the show? the pacing is so bad in this, I'd get more mileage going "oh they totally banged" in my head watching the show rather than playing this.
Lena and Samira are part of the show. They play a big role during Ishtar's saga, and especially Lena appears even more during Sword Oratoria which introduces a very impotant villain to the story.
They are a neat way to put some early game's hentai content, but more importantly they're a starting requirement for the Harem Route later on in the end game.
nah, you fight the silverback before meeting her, don't you remember the show? you didn't really change the order of events.
And after meeting her you go to floor 8 and 9
Yeah, my bad, you're right. It slipped off my mind, for some reason I thought he encountered her earlier in the story.
again none of this would be a problem if the game was faster, better paced or didn't weigh 5 fucking gigs because you just HAD to make 3d maps to make smt but slower and worse.
That's still around 3GB of content.
The length is actually longer than the one listed in the main thread because I forgot to update it, I'll just update the entry on the last update.
If you hate it so much, the game also offers a story mode.
This game has potential, but it has SO MUCH going against it, and the fact that it's a hentai game that restricts hentai to paths while also being long as shit, doesn't help it much. Only other game that i know did this exact formula better was, ironically, Overlord H, but that game was a pure visual novel, with no gameplay loop, making going through the routes way easier, and there was still plenty of things to see in a "single" route, which is how i first played it. You need to keep in mind the perspective of a new player, slogging through this game that promised porn only to be forced to play SMT at 2 frames per second.
I genuinely hope you take these criticisms and make the game better, because i do want to play it.
I don't make games of the same genre, that'd be boring. Overlord H is indeed a mostly pure Visual Novel, but in the past I've also made a Top Down RPG devoid of any Visual Novel element, and my new project is a mix of both (Leaning towards more VN).
But as I've said before, you can pick "Story mode" at the beginning of a new game, and the game will play exactly like pure Visual Novel. You will miss some content since the gameplay stuff is not there just because (There are hentai scenes even within the dungeon, once you enter a route), but it's not the biggest chunk. Characters like Hestia are fully available in Story Mode since she's not involved with the Dungeon or Quests.
The game is a release away from being completed (R36 will be the last one) so it's too late to make any drastic change, but in future I do plan on making a sequel since this game only covers the first 8 volumes / 2 seasons, so maybe you'll like that one better.
That being said, by answering all of your points, I don't see anything that the game doesn't already offer to fix the issues you are facing.
I don't really see the slow pacing you are talking about: The game offers a way to skip all the dialogue (even unread), just by holding CTRL. You can set the movement to instantaneous, buy a Morbul, and you'll traverse the floors in a matter of seconds (or minutes, in the deeper floors), you can also buy maps and you'll notice most stairs are actually reasonably close, and if it wasn't enough after 2 runs you'll unlock the dungeon expedition which allows you to start from the deepest floor you have entered. The only way to make it any faster is by removing it completely, which the game also offers through its Story Mode.
