The people who complain about how long the game takes to develop, legitimately need a reality check. This is a complex game with extremely complex character models and animations.
The people that complain about the time it takes to develop the game would also be ones to complain about this exact thing. It's not a wise decision to make a very ambitious game is what I'm saying.
You'll find games of this complexity develop slowly. We don't have spaghetti code like Yandere, we are making tons of original assets for the game, including music. Shit is hard, yo.
I agree. Game development, or software development in general, is not easy. But you say here yourself that a game of this complexity develops slowly. You also acknowledge that people want faster development. Wouldn't it then have made more sense to stick with something simpler?

I'm all for a complex porn game with great ambition, or at least I think I am, but I've not seen one reach completion yet. And that's the problem. They either take so darn long to make that we're still years away from one, or they get abandoned.

all that people really want is just sex anims with possible different clothing options, all the quests and story are just a bonus
Sure. The main thing is the sex animations themselves, I agree. But I do think that the addition of gameplay and writing can elevate simple sex scenes into so much more. I really liked what the writing in the 0.8 version brought to the table.

There are lofty expectations from us that are often times just unrealistic.
Just for clarity's sake. You mean expectations that others have of you, and not expectations you have of yourself, right?

If it was anything other than LoK, then I'd agree with you. But I think LoK deserves something a bit more in depth, especially since the simple has already been done before. That said, our ambitions were perhaps too high with the 3D stuff, we just really wanted to make it work because of how much potential there is in it.

We are simplifying it a bit with the 2D stuff, lowering the requirement on animations, and sorting out some other stuff to make it faster.

Well, good things take time, I'm afraid. Some of my favorite games took ages to make. Hell occasionally I still go to dirtyc101's blog to see if he's made any progress on his project. That said, we're a lot more transparent than most, and we're always working on it.

Agreed. If animations is all people want, then there are plenty of extremely talented animators and porn artists out there that do not need gameplay to enjoy. (I recommend oughta) But we're making a porn *game*, one that needs to be fun, well written, and sexy.

Just for clarity's sake. You mean expectations that others have of you, and not expectations you have of yourself, right?
If I'm honest, sometimes both. Sometimes I expect more out of myself than I can physically do, but that's what learning is about, isn't it? Anyway, people have a lot of unrealistic expectations for us, for instance the whole monthly update thing, not going to happen. Monthly updates were a struggle even with the older version of LoK, and I don't want to be shoving out incomplete spaghetti garbage for people to pick apart just because we need to release something. I want to make sure we can deliver something of quality.

Well Mighty, as far as expectation goes, dont forget you are the one who put them up that high - not only for you, but for us too. There are many comments from you criticizing us for not having the scope of your vision, and i think its fair to say that since the reboot you didnt delivered any of them.
As for Discord, since our first argument back in September or so i followed your advice and joined your discord. Having done that, i can honestly say for myself that its wasted time. Its nearly impossible to get infos on your game because its too much, 32 (!) channels, and it feels like you changing your name more often than you put infos out. Funniest thing in regards to discord is that you had problems with the way of critics here on f95, yet the level of discussions there is to put it mildly just crazy. Maybe you should leave Neil Druckmann alone... (yes, i liked TLOU2, and even if it where shit, they have a game out)
As for the time argument, are you sure you still want to bring that out again? 3 years in total, one of them was for reboot, and where are we now? Not even a Tech Demo anymore. The best thing this project can show is sadly an abandoned 0.8 version. I agree that quality should be above quantity, but with 0 quantity theres also 0 quality. Im not calling you scammers, but i think unprofessional or inexperienced would be a good description.
Still i hope you find patrons because as to my understanding no money no game (correct me if im wrong). Thats acceptable, but it doesnt fit the profile of "love for the character or game", it fits more a paid job description.
As for me, this is probably the beginning of a long pause from this thread. After 3 years, 2 of them with my support, i dont see anything good coming from here except disappointment. Maybe thats an accomplishment of yours, an Ex-Supporter and a Krystal Fan losing hope for this game. Although i might miss Choppo and 156s discussions ^^

Good luck

Great observation. For several months I had been saying that the path the game was taking was bad and I was suffering from a downgrade more than clear, and I was treated like the bad guy in the movie. What was the result?
Now that the game seems to be an evolution of the original plan, I hope I've shut a few mouths around.

For my part and as I have always said, that which maintains the original essence will be for me welcome.

Look, I playable a lot of the older LOK and it was a really good game (except some aspects of the gameplay because it was really boring), I don't think they need to release a """playable""" version or something every time. I don't care how much you gonna postpone or delay the game, JUST MAKE IT PERFECT and take your time to do it.

I don't want to play a completely broken demo or tech demo or even the full game because they didn't release something on the last day, last month, year or whatever, if they are updating the development with summary or a quick resume of what is being made, I'm fine with that.

You'll never have it perfect.

On specifically the thread being marked abandoned, I am in support of the decision. Whatever the state of current reboot I don't think it's a stretch to say it is a significantly different game than the one linked in the OP even if there are many shared elements. So when that game comes out it should get a new thread. There are many people attached to the abandoned version and I would say many would still complain even if there was a functioning early version of the reboot released because it is so different. I personally also think the abandoned version had a charm and some merits that the new game won't capture due to the change in direction even if it is a great game in its own right and surpasses it's predecessor on overall quality. I would be sad if the new game comes out and this thread is repurposed and the old game erased and forgotten.

I say leave this thread for discussing the old version, and make a new thread when new game is ready, I think it deserves a fresh thread rather than most of it being dedicated to drama and negativity. Maybe even consider making a new thread in the general section for discussing the pre release development, although no harm in discussing here.

That is fair.

Oh boy the comments. I requested it be marked "Abandoned" for specifically these reasons, quoting directly from the Patreon. I also requested a new thread be made with the new version's tech demo. As far as I'm aware, there is no automatic tagging of "Abandoned". Love it or hate it, this version is dead.

Hold the fuck up, these guys released something! To at least show they've been doing something, wasnt much but it was something. Yet it's been almost a year and Milfy City hasn't seen an update, sure he says he's working but he didn't decide to remake the game from scratch (Just start an entirely new one)

Take the abandoned tag off, rule for one, rule for all

No. Please don't do that. Don't tell them to strive for perfection!

But in the meantime, let's pollute this thread that's supposed to be for the old game with pages and pages of discussion about the remake and the drama surrounding it. Sounds good to me.

Pretty sure a thread gets marked abandoned after six months of inactivity from the dev. Don't think it's done automatically, though. Would be near impossible to do automatically with the many outlets the dev can release information through.
Then you must have missed what has happened in the last year.
Isn't that exactly what he's referring to?

That's why I suggested to make a new thread for development like some other games also have, after all there still some new people coming here once in a while and asking for help and such and those comments get lost (although they should probably just use the search). But it was a mild suggestion because who am I to tell people what they are or are not allowed to do here.

The contamination of the yarn has been due to their bad performance.
I hope that if there's a new thread, isn't to "redeem" their wrong doing.

Not redeem but Dev has also mentioned that they don't control this thread and what goes on here, in the new thread (if the devs themselves decide to make it) they can put all the information and their viewpoint front and center in the OP and others can draw their own conclusion. They could also add all their previews and stuff in the OP so that people can find it easily and discuss it, here the updates are spread across that it will be difficult for someone new to find them. And nothing is stopping others from sharing their thoughts, counterpoints and criticism in that thread. I think it would stop the arguments to go around in circles too much. It wouldn't change much of the discussion (IMO) except the thread will be more on topic I guess. But as I said I don't mind if the discussion continues here, it could be too much work for what it's worth making different threads and such, time is precious.
