I was actually thinking today about how Maki is the only adult character who actively knows about Akira's "tendencies" who is also actively telling him to stop (Osako's quiet disapproval doesn't count). By all rights, that should violate the rules of this "eternal playground" that's been crafted for Akira, and while Maki being isolated and insecure enough to not do anything about it technically fits the bill, it can't fit it forever when she's a member of the PTA board and can just talk with Imani and Wakana at any time. I then thought about all the characters that have defied the nature/predetermination of Kumon-Mi, and all of them have at least glimpsed the larger metanarrative with the most extreme examples fully making it through the resets, forming the RAS. Each of them had their little "tells" here and there hinting that they were starting to get it, with the most recent two characters to be up to some funny business during the most recent reset being Rin and Futaba. In Rin's case, she mentioned the room with clocks waaay, way back and offhandedly mentioned something adjacent to the reset loop when Akira first found her cutting. Futaba's example was a lot more dramatic with her public blowout where she literally spoke the words, "None of this is real!" This might be my pro-Maki biases peeking out, but I'm kinda hoping this is Maki's "tell", and that she ends up being the first adult character to make it through the resets and join the RAS. It would also be a delicious irony if the first adult to strongly push back against Akira's tendencies is also the first to realize they're stuck with this asshole for eternity.Anyone else pick up on two events in particular, that being Touka at the vending machine and Maki&Makoto argument.
Both events we have someone *not* from the Rooftop Apocalypse Squad and mentioning knowing Akira for 'Years', while also having someone *from* the Squad present.
I thought they weren't allowed to understand anything about how the years have been passing or whatnot. Is my tin-foil hat on too tight I am losing bloodflow to my brain.
...or this is just a casual oversight that happens sometimes.
