We made a small change, LoK:R is now "Lok: Rebirth", a tiny and somewhat cheesy change, but Lok is the name of the main antagonist, and it is, technically, his rebirth. We don't want anything to do with big daddy Nintendo, and we have taken as many steps as we can to avoid it. That is why we are going to such great lengths for character customization.
Definitely cheesy, I personally find it weird that the cannon name is simply "Lok" when it sounds more masculine for a female character, but fair enough though. I still feel like the core design of her is pretty much exactly Krystal from color scheme to fur patterns and even the tail bindings but its definitely too late to create an original main character this deep into production. I know you're not the OP of this thread but you could probably benefit greatly by making a Q&A of the more common things brought up as well as probably an update to the thread name to be "Lok: Rebirth" instead of "Legend Of Krystal: Rebirth Remake" as its still referred to as literally everywhere.

Sorry, you didn't deserve that rude response, I'm used to people be asses in this thread for the sake of being asses. I've mentioned it in the past many times, but for you I shall state it again:

And yes, we couldn't make Renamon without treading into dangerous waters, we're not ready for that yet.

If my memory serves me - it was said on your official Patreon channel that you create your game, being inspired by the work of the * Playshapes *, and this guy did create game, based on Legend Of Krystal, from where you did take your LOK tag (and a lot of ideas, which you did used in your game of 0,8 version)... But okay, let's pretend that this did not happen, and in general - Krystal and Nindendo have nothing at all to do with your project :)

Or maybe you also do want to say that the idea of your project also has nothing to do with work of * Playshapes *and it's your individual idea? :)

Damn, you guys even manage to complain that the devs are trying to avoid lawsuits and being nuked by big N... This thread will always amaze me.

I will not say that I am a great specialist in laws, but the law that allows you to create parodies (of famous characters) nevertheless obliges several things:

- a project that contains copyright characters must be free (otherwise the creator may be sued)

- there must be a reference in the project - where the character was taken from (otherwise, again, the original copyright owner can sue such developers, as he/they considers that his/they rights have been violated)

And if you look at the art from the creators of the game in this thread, it is obvious what kind of character they are trying to show, and if they pretend that this character is just * similar * to Krystal, they just risk even more conflict with the original copyright holder ( And if in the future they try to sell their game - they definitely will be sued )

And also - game creators shouldn't forget - where their game takes its roots from, because they are not the creators of the original idea, it is *Playshapes* :)

The LOK:R team never, ever said or implied they were the creator of the origina idea. In their introduction on Patreon it is written " inspired by the original Flash game made long ago ". The characters, story and lore however are almost exclusively the work of the LOK:R team.

As for the copyright matters and such, I think they're walking on a thin line, trying to balance things between avoiding the big N nuke, but keeping using a character very close to the other famous blue fox. I trust them for having researched the matter, and knowing what they can or can't do.

it does really make you wonder: how certain of the legality of this really are they? if they got smacked with a C&D from Nintendo, would they capitulate or fight it in court?

even if you don't lose, getting sued sure ain't cheap...

I personally feel like nintendo has more than enough ammo to take this to court if they really wanted to. I doubt they would since Starfox is one of their more neglected IPs and even more so they themselves tossed Krystal in the trash pretty much immediately after her inclusion in the second game. Even still the game is named Lok which isn't changed at all from "LoK" which is an acronym just about every furry on the internet recognizes as Legend of Krystal. On top of that Lok's design is still 100% Krystal from the color scheme to the fur patterns and even the wraps on the poofy tail. Given the previous attempt was explicitly a Legend of Krystal game all of this could easily fall into Nintendo's favor regardless of any attempts to argue "but its our own unique game and characters" when it still very much is just Krystal but "legally not."

In the end though none of this matters if nintendo doesn't give a shit and simply doesnt bother and let it be.

Maybe a rude question : when can we expect the first playable version ? (This Tech Demo I don’t count ). I liked the previous design and have also high hopes for this one.

Pretty soon-ish tbh, we've got all the movement animations basically done. Atm we're just doing 2D backgrounds and Kuja has been kicking ass at that.

What kind of content can be expected?
We are adding and finishing a lot of mechanics, including the day/night cycle, all of the movement animations are being completed, lighting has been added, FX are being refined, and a number of 2D environments on the ship and in the village have been done. So expect that, we also have finished/polished the sex animations with the snake man, including cumshots, so you can enjoy those.

Basically we're finishing up the last of the foundation for the game, and with our very recent changes to the animation team, things are getting done very rapidly in that department. I haven't been happy with the progress of assets for the last 6 or so months, but I finally am pretty satisfied with how things are developing.

I don't like the new design of the lizards.
Sorry to hear that.
