My father served on the Iowa during the Korean war. His battle station was in one of the 8-inch guns. I heard something once (don't know if I really remember or how true it is) that if a BB fired all it's main guns off to the side at the same time, would push the ship 3 miles in the other direction...always gave me a chuckle to think about it

In USMC boot during the peace time 1980's we trained with the M16A1 and briefly with the M1911. My primary military firearms experience was on the rifle and pistol ranges for training. The bulk of my actual firearms expertise is from civilian life both before and after my active time as a US Marine. I am primarily proficient with rifles but I can still hit a fist sized group at up to 50 feet with most pistols. With an AR platform I can consistently hit the bullseye from 300 meters out and up to a 500 meters with a Springfield M1A (the civilian M14.)
My father served aboard a destroyer escort at the tail end of WWII and my stepdad served in the Vietnam Conflict. Both were Navy men. Both saw some battle action and did not discuss their service openly.
Most of my finger, hand, wrist and forearm strength was developed by playing upright and electric bass for 6-8 hours each day.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with an H&K USP in 9mm! I can easily get double taps on a second target before the severe recoil of a .44 magnum or larger caliber pistol will allow a second shot! No worries, Snake.
Honestly y'all, the choice of firearm has everything to do with the need and ability of the shooter. My personal preference these days is an AR rifle, a S&W .357 magnum, a Bond Arms .45 cal./.410 gauge derringer, a hip fired .12 gauge (just can't shoulder fire the damn thing!) and as always... my bow. I've never had to fire a shot or loose an arrow in anger nor have I ever felt the need to go hunting since I live in the city and can easily get meat at the market. However, I do know how. Sic Vis Pacem Parabellum... If you want peace, prepare for war. So, I, like our MC Ryker am ALWAYS prepared for war...
We had one firearm in the house growing up, grandpa's revolver, but dad never fired it or allowed me to do more than just look at it. Dad's time as a Navy man in WWII left him wary of firearms however he still taught me everything he knew about archery and bow hunting which led me to become an expert archer now with over 45 years experience. The 1911 .45 acp was always a favorite for me as it had sufficient power to knock a target on their ass at close range and light enough recoil to quickly regain a site picture on the next target. I shy away from larger caliber handguns to avoid wrist fatigue and potential injury and the big recoil of .44 magnum and higher calibers takes the pistol too far out of the site picture between shots for my taste. I prefer to make a rapid succession of well aimed shots to possibly NOT getting the chance to make a second shot. The 9mm parabellum round, even a .22 LR round can easily kill at close range with a properly aimed shot. And, don't think that body armor is a challenge for a shooter like me. Hitting an enemy combatant in the neck, under arm or groin can cause a bleed out in just a few seconds.
But, old Phat is just rambling on per usual now. Like our friend Runner, I too enjoy how simple, off hand comments can often spark a much greater conversation and though we all share a bit of competitive nature, it never gets mean spirited because we all seem to respect one another here. I consider you all my friends and enjoy our collaborative discussions and conversations.

Well, that pretty well sorts out which of us is older, Phat. I was setting the range record (for recruits) with the M16 at Paris Island, SC just a little more than a dozen or so years before you were a boot. Ultimately my primary "tool" became a heavily modified Dragunov. It had both a scope for day and an experimental infrared for dawn and dusk (not much use at night, really). A flash and sound suppressor that was almost two inches in diameter added almost 14" to the barrel length and it fired NATO 7.62x54mm FMJ. It was a sweet weapon and most of the use I had for it occurred at between 700 to 1000 m. I fired the M1A a few times as well. Nice rifle.

Sounds awesome, brother! All my shooting was done with iron peep sites. I never learned to use a scope. I do have some experience with the M1A that is also chambered in NATO 7.62x54mm/Winchester .308 but only with the iron sites, never a scope. From what little I know, that Dragunov was a beast of a sniper rifle.

Getting a hot girl pregnant is the ultimate sexual experience any man can have IMHO. Also, it leads to horny pregnant sex so it is a double blessing involving gallons of cream pies!
