With a game like this, giving someone a personality, and giving them motivations is a bit of a tightrope walk...since the motivations are more on the player, and what they do, so...I can define Nathan's personality as a former doormat, that want's more agency in his life, but pushing further outside that begins to breach into the players agency, since it's the player that will be ultimately deciding what happens. Nathan isn't a full blank slate, because to give him a history I have to define some personality, but he's not a fully fleshed out character either, or else I'd be robbing the player of agency by determining his goals, rather than giving the player the options to define thier own goals.
Maybe I explained myself wrong, my problem isn't with Nathan's personality or character I understand that for games like these MC's aren't "fleshed" out because it's the player that really builds that. It's about the backstory given where in the intro he says that he was framed and his family found out and believed he did and so they left on bad terms and he resents them for it but then after he says that it just skips right to gameplay where's he's back and already with his family again. So then I thought we would see some sort of tension through the gameplay of his family being indifferent, angry, or not trusting of him but it just seems like a regular family, there doesn't feel like there's any tension even though we got a backstory that would allude to a tense atmosphere. It makes me think "What was the point in that backstory.
