Hey, guys, I'm about to start this game, but I remember reading somewhere that the game doesn't have any animated sex scenes and it's all stills. This is by no means an issue for me, but I just wanted to ask a question if it matters to you guys, or do you get the same thing as long as the scenes are composed well and the dialogue is written well also. Thanks in advance, I'm honestly interested in what people have to say, as I mentioned earlier, I don't mind one bit if they're animated or not, as long as the writing is good, but different people prefer different things.

I'm fine with stills as long as the scene is written well with a lot of eroticism, which I feel Nefastus does quite well. Animations certainly help and is a preference, but I've even played games that have animations and lack eroticism, which defeats the purpose for me. It's just like watching a shitty porn at that point.

Depens on a lot. First most devs have limited resource and doing good animation needs a lot of time and work. So if their resource are very limited - or just they skills doesn't justified their animation - I prefer when the focus their time on other things.

For Midlife Crisis you will be in for a treat Scorn. . Nef is one of the devs that write some very good erotic scene and for me, instead of a lot of other games where the images stand in the forground, here is it the text. One, if not the only game, I would even "play" if it was just a book.

Gotta second Hornyy here - the renders are okay-ish at best, there are no animations (but as c3p0 correctly said, even though I am reading between the lines a bit: if you cannot do a good animation, skip it - bad animations can be a real mood killer) and so forth, but the writing on here is second to none, and only a few come close.

Which leads me to the answer to the original question: in general I do care and prefer animations, as many others, but if something is good, it just is good - and the "how is this so good?" doesn't really matter, I just enjoy it.

I fully agree with this.

Unfortunately there is no tag for "good story" or "good writing" and some people tend to stare too much at the "animated" tag.

I prefer animations, hell, I'm sure most do, but it's not a deal breaker for me if I play a game or not.

Absolutely, bad animations are worse than not having any at all.

Sure having animation in the game is good, but it takes time to make the renders proper for animation, so people prefer that the renders improve and have better erotic settings with lust and corruption, most people who watch porn get bored of this no brain and shitty settings, so people prefer the Renpy game where we can control and get into the story and make the choices, that's is why this game is great not for its graphics but the character and good settings.

What depression arc? If you mean the dark story that's just an excersise to get rid of writers block for Nef, it's not canon.
They might refer to the early part of the game when MC is depressed and can't get out of bed for days, until.. well, you know, a readheaded saviour appears.

Why does the game have a depression arc? It's too real, I have that irl and don't need to live it in a porn game lol
If it's what i mentioned above: It's only a phase, the game doesn't dwell on it.

And if anyone really care, what Nef, who is the fucking dev, had written about the dark version, they would understand what it is and what it isn't and not ask or demanding to have more of it.
...

But here we are and Count Morado post, as well as Nef's original post is long forgotten and mine will be too soon enough. And anyone who care can either search for the county's latest post or the post of Nef.
Yet, I fear more gimme, gimme, gimme be it update, mod, save or walk through post will come and:
And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth...:)

Well, I get your point. But that darker story is what brought me back to the game. I'm not asking for more. If it's a one time, it's a one time. But I did like it better, because it made me do a restart on the main game. So, I personally am thankful to Nef for that.

The thing that makes the dark path superior to the vanilla version is the focus. In the normal game there are too many characters and distractions and nothing really ends up as climatic as the long sex scene in dark path v0.1. Just like Witch Trainer is at it's best when it's all about corrupting Hermione or when in 'Round Round Molester Train' or whatever that game was called there is nothing besides the girl you are corrupting.

If you don't like corruption/rape content that's fine, but dark path is a much better porn game so far. I hope it gets continued.

If all we were to do was compare the first iteration of midlife crisis against the first release of the dark storyline, yeah you could come to the conclusion the writing is better. Nef has been writing these characters for years. So yes, the narrative and characters could be more rounded in the dark story, but you cannot ignore the prior knowledge of what we, the player/audience/reader, know about these characters.

Most VN's start off relatively sluggish and that's alright. Fully fleshing the personalities and chemistry of each person takes time. If all you did was play the dark version, yeah you could complain that the 'vanilla' isn't as narratively tight. But to do so is blatantly ignoring the history and evolution of the vanilla story, its characters and chemistry.

IMO, the dark version is fine. There's a number of people that prefer it to the 'actual' story (if you think the dark version will ever get as many updates as the current version, I have some magic beans to sell you) and they're more than welcome to state their opinion. But to say its better is nothing more than that - an opinion.

on the regular version of the game, i went with a playthrough trying to keep the MC as being a good dad and fully faithful to his wife.

At some point there's a dialogue between the MC and his wife about the possibility of an "open relationship", as that was going against my current playthrough decisions, i choose then the answer that basically deny that possibility and keep the MC and his wife faithful together in their normal relationship.
The wife agree and tells the MC that she wants the same.

But then right after that scene there is Sarah coming and asking the MC to bring her and Christine for a shopping session.
The MC will then go fetch Christine that is currently in her room.
There in the dialogue the MC will start to tell Christine that with his wife they're going to have a more "open relationship" with both free to pursue other people ?
(note on that playthrough i never did any choice accepting any LI advances other than the wife)

Is the "no open relationship" choice from the previous scene just ignored or is it only on that scene that the dialogues aren't adapting correctly to the previous choice you did for the MC ?

Nef is concentrating on the Harem path first and individual paths later so may be some residual effect of that.
