Any place that is not a game thread.
so, i'm gonna throw this one back at you, since this is used all the time "it's just a pirate site" - - don't pretend you're some high and mighty entity that is actually trying to preserve the integrity of the content creator

i mean, whenever we complain about developer delays, you mods ban us and say "it's a pirate site, what are you complaining about, it's free" well...

"it's a pirate site, what are you complaining about, your product isn't legit" ; go away and come back when people are issuing death threats or racist/bigot comments, leave our regular, run of the mill opinions alone

Exactly, not to mention the forum rules state that a game thread should "stay on topic" you'd think the mods would be aware of the rules they should be enforcing.
Any place that is not a game thread.
This is doing the total opposite of that.

What integrity? ICSTOR is a joke of a developer, they have been milking, lying, and stringing along their patreons for a long time now. They can abandon this game (that I never even played) the next and the whole studio, take the money and open an aquarium cleaning service for all I care.

All of that is beside the point, this is a game thread, to about a game, yet all there is here is pages upon pages of people beating a horse that's been dead for years. And is in fact not a game, but a developer.

you can't separate "the game" from "the developer" - - that would be like making a thread about "The Chicago Bulls" and getting mad about someone constantly talking about "Michael Jordan" - no, just no

there is nothing wrong with making a "thread about a game" but then also talking about "the person who made the game" as well, no, i just can't

there is no way to justify what you said

So what, it's been like 4-6 months now after waiting a full year for a single half-assed update? Of course he still has patreon support. Yawn.

Perhaps this will help make it more clear: there is typically a point after which complaints about the Dev and their purported lifestyle, their patrons and assumed levels of intelligence, etc. have nothing to do with the game, anymore - i.e., when it resembles an echo chamber of roundtable ranting about perceived injustices against the gaming universe. Even if you believe your ire supported by logic and facts, when such a point is reached then the thread may no longer be able to reasonably sustain fair participation under the General Rules.

As redknight00 aluded to: these topics are about a game's qualities/meanings/genre/fandom and its production (which includes the Dev team to a certain extent), rather than creative pilloring of the Developer's private life, pontificating about the motivations of their patrons, etc. An example of off-topic in this thread would be concentrating on the latter aspects almost uniquely and dialing that up to 11.

And this applies equally to every thread outside of Off-topic at the site, of course.

With all due respect, that reasoning is "meh".

I'm all against hate comments and completly agree those people must be punished. But forbidding discussion about the game releases? That doesn't make any sense at all.

I didn't want to comment to avoid the derail on the thread, but that reasoning completly doesn't make any sense at all. This I reinforce, without counting hatred towards the dev. I understand that kind of behaviour is hard to control.

About the game itself I'm sad it ended like this. It sucks when promising games are left incomplete, specially if we know the dev won't produce more afterwards. Also I hope everything is fine with the dev, from what I remember he had a pretty bad burnout (correct me if I'm wrong please), and his earlier games were always fun to play.

this is a response i can respect, and almost entirely agree with

as someone who is NOT A MOD (i do have my bad days) i would suggest that those who ARE MODS dictate "when" the over-all environment of a thread completely de-rails into "just curb stomping" - - however, there are going to be times, like recently when ICSTOR released that last (come on, that's pretty controversial) patreon post, that people are going to cry out, especially when he is censoring them on his official pages

a few months ago Waifu Academy got very toxic, and so it was muted/closed for a few days, and that helped mildly, that might be a better course of action rather than having a mod start issuing a bunch of bans and/or going "to war" against the populace in here, as, even if they did make a good point, the mob gonna mob, but i liked what you said, so i decided to reply as such in return, not that we're talking about world justice or anything

but porn is a hobby too, nothing wrong with that, people get excited over less, - - that being said, i vote to keep "dev/release time" bashing to a max of one full page a day, because as pointed out prior, there are new players that are having the time of their lives NOT waiting for the next release...at least...not yet

The thread is already a dumpster fire by ICSTOR's own doing. The mods running around deleting every comment 'cause it doesn't belong in the game thread' must be EXHAUSTING. So, why not just let it burn as a warning to people who just discovered the game and they might make the mistake of supporting him on Patreon?

In no way am i excusing the hateful comments, but to tell me i can't address the developer in the thread of the game they made is ridiculous. It defeats the whole purpose of having a place for discussion.
It's contradicting with what the mods ACTUALLY do.

Comments praising the developer aren't deleted and by the mods behavior, one could say they are even encouraged at some level.

But God forbid someone says something negative! Call the shill brigade to delete all comments.

You can't have it both ways.

IMO devs and games are interconnected. You can't have discussion about the one without the other, negative or positive.

Granted though, I understand that not everyone can keep the discussion civil on the internet so that's the only thing that makes me understand the mods position. For scummy developers though like Gumdrop Games and sadly now ICSTOR, the mods can't be policing the forums and deleting comments all the time. People are pissed off at the devs behavior and the mods deleting comments is just pissing people off further.

Exactly what I was thinking, it seems to only be "off-topic" when what is shared is negative. Personal attacks are too far, i can't dispute that. But bringing up ICSTORS name in a negative light should not be off-topic unless praising him is deemed so as well. I'm kind of astonished a moderator would tell anyone they basically can't speak the devs name in their games thread.

For those who have not understood: ICSTOR is milking its fat cows to get as much as it can do, of course it is unscrupulous and greedy. But let me tell you, as a developer he is tremendously good.
That is actually the saddest part. You look at the game and it has such a huge potential, but the dev just gives up on it.
