I'm pretty new to a lot of these games when it comes to Patron. I see this guy has over 5,000 patron subscribers. Is he still collecting money each month off them even though he hasn't updated this game in ages? Like how does that work?

Paypigs are mentally ill. They will throw money at projects and make these people into millionaires to the point the developer no longer has any incentive to work and will just sink into drug addiction or laziness with their wads of cash. 99% of the time when a patreon makes too much money the updates stop, but they'll keep giving them money and they'll defend it until their own bank accounts are dry. They will not only defend it but they will become aggressive and attack people who call this out.
Every single time when this kind of stuff happens the only way you can expect any updates is if the patreon is threatened. If a lot of people pull out and the dev suffers losses, if people start spreading information that the project has been abandoned etc, the dev will come out of their drug binge and update their game.
Paypigs don't learn and just keep throwing money at them.
