I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. It was "good" before but there are an army of games with better writing in it these days.

As a matter of fact, they are. Milfy City is the triple-A of lewd games.
But it's still the triple-A of fucking Patreons and Supporters as well. But when he delivers, with less than 5% of his patreon revenues, he delivers an hell of a masterpiece! And that's why we Love & Hate him so much.

All you had to do, was google "what does sandbox mean in a ren py game." But I can understand your confusion though. To be honest to you, when I heard the word "sandbox" I was confused with "sandbox" for Garry's mod.

A plausible excuse is to say something went wrong on the programmer side. I remember to this when 0.71 came out, it wasn't without bullshit either. At the momment of release guy said he lost connection to internet because of huge storm and hurricanes and was was able to release the update a day and half later.

You said it's way more complex than an average RenPy game which it isn't. The only difference this game has from what you call an "average" is the sandbox element which is bare bones and it doesn't make it way more complex than other RenPy VNs. The sandbox element is only there to make the game seem more than it is I guess it worked on you at least.
